December Sew Sampler Box!!

December is always such a wonderful month filled with friends and family!!!  We had such a lovely Christmas Season and hope that you and yours did as well!!!   I haven't gotten to my machine a whole lot the last few weeks, but that is all good, because the kids are back in school soon, and I get to spend lots and lots of time in my sewing room.    And now I can add my new December Sew Sampler Box project to the mix!!     The theme for this month is C'est La Vie and it is just such a great box this month and was a wonderful added present under the tree!!!

I am so in love with this Lovestruck Bundle by Lella Boutique!!!  I was so excited when Lella Boutique shared sneak peeks of this Lovestruck Fabricand now I can't wait to create with it!!!  Isn't it just so pretty!!! And of course, Fat Quarter Shop has made a gorgeous pattern to go with this gorgeous fabric!!!  Can't wait to get this Dulce pattern cut out ;)

And the notions for this month are so  great!!  I love how Fat Quarter Shop added the Flying Geese Paper Pad to go with the Dulce pattern.   And I just love Creative Grids Rulers and this 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" Quilt Ruler is just so cute and will come in handy for small trimming and marking. And the Magic Pins are just so cool, I am excited to try the Fork Pins.   And as always, you can never have enough thread and I am excited to try this Presencia Thread as it is new to me ;)

And the Pressed Flowers Quilt Along is not going to happen this year, But I did get a bundle of the Flower Press Fabrics and it is now sitting with the patterns for a "someday project"  .  I mean, Pressed Flowers, Flower Press . . . It's like they were meant to be together.

And just a note, there are currently some openings for this new years Sew Sampler boxes, great way to start the new year ;)

And that is December Sew Sampler Box.  I am so looking forward to January and all of the new projects it will bring, including another Sew Sampler Box Project :)

Happy Quilting!!!

Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas

From our Family to Yours!!!

Here is our Annual Christmas Letter, just in case you want to read about what we Corry's have been up to this year ;)   And FYI, my husband always writes this letter and I teased him that "quilting empire" is a term that should be used very loosely ;)

Dear Family and Friends

2023 has been good to us. So let’s get to it.

Jocelyn entered 6th grade and moved from South Elementary to Cedar Middle School. It is nice having all the kids gone by 8 in the morning (or so I’m told by the one who is still at home at 8). She also started going to young women’s this year and has been enjoying her frequent activities and associations with her friends in the neighborhood. She is definitely our most social child and I fear the days when she starts dating.

Kamryn started high school this year. Following in the footsteps of her 3 older siblings she enrolled at Success Academy and Cedar High School and stays busy with an inordinate amount of school work. She finished her 3rd year of mountain biking this year with success. For the second year in a row Kam decided to break her wrist while crashing on her bike. While it occurred at the beginning of the season in 2022, this year she decided to do it in the middle of the season during a race. She missed 2 weeks of practice and was back on the bike for her next race with a splint on. The arm healed well and she was able to race at state in Cedar City. I’m considering purchasing a whole bunch of body armor for next years’ season.

Kristian is a Junior at Cedar High and Success and has taken over the role of the oldest child at home. He has happily commandeered the kids’ Ford Escape as his own and is often found playing D&D with friends or Magic with his older brother (when he comes to visit). Kristian also completed another year of mountain biking and is significantly faster than I on the bike, but he still condescends to ride with me from time to time. I enjoy our occasional trips together to St George during the winter months to ride and I think he likes them too.

Jessica graduated from Success Academy and CHS last spring with her high school diploma and associates degree from SUU. She continues her work at TJ Maxx and is constantly working on her communication skills. I’m sure they will come in handy in the not-too-distant future. Jessi has continued her education at SUU and moved into an apartment a few miles from us in the early fall. She still spends a fair amount of time here at home and I lovingly call her half of my freeloaders, but Melissa and I enjoy every minute we get to spend with her.

Spencer returned home from his 2 year mission to Germany and we have been overjoyed to have him back with us. He lived at home for a couple of months before also moving into an apartment a few miles away (on the opposite side of SUU campus from Jessi). He now constitutes the second half of my freeloaders as he comes home to visit anytime a warm meal is available. We are overjoyed to have him back with us and are trying (poorly) to be as hands off as possible while he navigates the challenges of work, school and dating in this new phase of life.

Melissa continues to expand her quilting empire. It’s safe to say she spends more time at her career than I do at mine and while it is not nearly as lucrative she seems to derive significantly more pleasure from her chosen occupation than I do from mine. Through it all she continues to take care of us all and functions very well as a counselor to our two freeloaders throughout their escapades of life.

I continue to work taking care of patients at the clinic and generally enjoy it, though my mind has unfortunately started a countdown to retirement (it’s a long countdown). I was able to help coach the kids’ mountain bike team and have found more enjoyment doing so than I ever thought.

We hope this letter finds you all well and wish you joy at this time we celebrate the birth of our Savior.

Love,

The Corrys

Barn Star Sampler QAL - Finish!!!

The Barn Star Sampler Quilt Along has come to an end and I am so excited to share my finish!!!  This Quilt Along began at the very start of this year, so it seems fitting that it will be my final share of 2023!!  Thanks to Fat Quarter Shop' for hosting this awesome quilt along, I had so much fun sewing along  :)    So without further ado . . .  here is my Barn Star Sampler !!!

I made my Barn Star Sampler a little larger so it would finish square at 100" x 100" .  I had so much fun playing with the layout and figuring out the extra blocks I got to make to square this up.   Now it can go on my bed :)  I just love the way it all came together!!!

And I am so happy with this beautiful array of Rainbow Ombre goodness!!!  Isn't a rainbow of colors just so happy!!!  And I love all of the different neutrals ombre in the background, it really allows each block to just stand out on it's own as well as be a part of the sampler!!!  I just can't help but smile at it, it really is just happy making!!!

And when it came time to quilt it, I went for an all over swirl in a fairly large scale.  I wanted to keep this one a little softer, so I tried not to quilt it super dense, but I still love all of the texture.  When you have all of those wonderful points, it is so great to add some curvy goodness with some swirls ;)    And you know my favorite 402 So Fine was the perfect match for all of these colors and neutrals.  Blended so perfectly!!!

And now, I just get to enjoy the finish!!!   So exciting ;)  I have just so enjoyed this quilt along!!!  Working with ombre's takes a little more planning, but it is so worth it!!!  Sewing with all of those wonderful color's is just so fun and seeing all of the different shades come together is just amazing!!!  I am just thrilled with this finish and so enjoyed this 2023 Barn Star Quilt Along!!!

In fact, I loved it so much, I am planning on a second ombre Quilt Along in 2024!!  This time I think I am going to mix colors in the blocks though, just to change it up a bit.   I can't wait!!!   Bring on the Piece and Quilt Sampler for 2024 :)

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this finish with me ;)  Have a Happy Quilting Day!!

Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along!!!

It's almost the new year, and that means a whole bunch of new Quilt Alongs!!!  And January 13th is the start of the Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along and I can't wait!!!  (literally, you will see by the sneak peek that I didn't wait ;)

I have been saying for sometime that I need to practice my paper piecing skills.   I always seem to underestimate the angles and cut my fabric to small.   So, when I was asked about joining in this quilt along, I figured it would be the perfect practice will all of those lovely angles, and because it has deadlines, it will actually get done!!!

The Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along combines both the 8" Vintage Sunburst Paper Piecing pads as well as the 12" Paper Piecing Pads!!!  Doesn't it just make the cutest design when the two are put together!!!  The quilt will finish at 64" x 88" so it will be a nice large throw size when complete.   The free pattern for this Quilt Along can be found right here ;)

And you knew, my version was going to be happy and bright!!!!  I decided to use Blossom Basics, and I have separated the prints into cool and warm colors.   I am going to use the cool colors to make the big blocks, and the warm colors to make the small blocks.    And I was super happy to be able to use up all of the yardage leftover white on white prints that I have from the backgrounds of other quilts.   What a great way to use up all of those pieces that are to small to use for another background ;)

And like I said, I couldn't wait.   Honestly, I wanted to check that all of the pieces I cut above would work.  (and ya, I could have made them a littler larger, but they will keep me focused in piecing just to perfection :)   And as you can see from the sneak peek, I am also adding a warm colored stitch and flip on the big blocks so that I will have little diamonds in the corners.  So cute!!

And after I had made my practice blocks, I couldn't handle adding all of the cut off scraps to my scrap bins (they are already overflowing.  So I decided to just improv piece them together.  I just love how happy that scrap is now.   I plan to do this for each set of blocks and we will see what it becomes when I am done with the quilt ;)

So do you want to work on your paper piecing skills as well??  Pop over the the Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along page to get all of the details!!!  I am so super excited for this project ;)

Dizzy Days Irish Chain - A New Happy Quilting Pattern!!!

I am super excited to share a second new pattern and quilts today!!!   Here is Dizzy Days Irish Chain!!! And yes, this is a remake of an old pattern, but I changed it up so much, including a new name, that I am just considering it new ;)  And my favorite change up is that I made is scrappy friendly, because we all have scraps, and they need to be used!!!!

The  Dizzy Days Irish Chain Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special (along with all of my patterns :)  for it's release with PDF Patterns at $5.50 and the Paper Patterns are $7.00!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Dizzy Days Irish Chain is such a fun quilt to make!  And the cool thing is, because of the random layout of the "random" blocks, no two quilts will look the same.  And yet, you still get the Single Irish Chain criss crossing every time.   The quilt is made with basic piecing techniques and the blocks go together super quick.  Cornerstones finish off the chain, but they blend in, so you don't even notice them or the sashing, so cool :)

This version of  Dizzy Days Irish Chain is made all from scraps!!!!   I pulled out scraps in pink, blue, yellow and green from Bonnie and Camille, Lella Botique, Coriander Quilts, and Sherri and Chelsi.  And there are some other designers in there as well, I just had the most from the above. ( probably because I make lots of quilts from their fabrics ;)   And didn't it just come together oh so cute!!!  I just love how happy and bright these colors are and how they pop of the background ;)

I quilted this version of  Dizzy Days Irish Chain with small swirls all over the background.  I made sure to get those swirls in every knock and cranny and then left the blocks unquilted.  This makes them just pop and emphasizes the single chain all the more.  So fun!!!  And you know, 402 for the win!!  (I actually burned thorough a whole spool of 402 all in 3 days quilting so much :)

And if you don't have scraps . . .  tell me your secret :)  No, just kidding, you can always make your quilt from a layer cake like the original.   Here is an oldie but a goodie made with a Basic Grey layer cake in the queen/king size.   You get the same fun scrappy took with a layer cake as they have so much variety in them ;)

And of course, the pattern comes with size options so you can find the size that work just right for you!!!  The pattern has 6 size options :  Baby,  Child, Lap, Picnic, Twin, Queen/King.  So now you can make all the sizes :)

And as I mentioned yesterday . . .   my Happy Quilting Patterns have a new look but are still filled with full color - wonderful illustrations to guide you along each step of the way.        And thanks to the  . . .
You can get this pattern along with any of my patterns, books, or templates on sale!!!  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Patterns.   All, PDF Patterns are just $5.50, and the Paper Patterns are $7.00,  until December 18th :)    And while you are there, check out my books and templates as well, as everything is on sale ;)  Always good to save on shipping!!

Oh, And one last note.   When you make your Dizzy Days Irish Chain Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc ;)  I can't wait to see your Happy Quilting Quilts!!!

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this new finish with me.  I am so very excited, I just love scrappy quilts!!!  I'll be sharing more so be sure to come back and visit ;)

I hope you all have a Happy Quilting Day!!!

Tying the Knot - A New Happy Quilting Pattern!!!

Today I am super excited to share a new pattern and quilts today!!!   Here is Tying the Knot!!! I had so much fun designing and making this quilt.  The blocks actually go together on point, so it is a nice mix up from regular old piecing!!!  It really is just such a happy quilt :)

The  Tying the Knot Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special (along with all of my patterns :)  for it's release with PDF Patterns at $5.50 and the Paper Patterns are $7.00!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Tying the Knot is really a great quilt to make!  If you didn't notice, this quilt "floats" so there are no points that you have to worry about  lining up.  This makes it great for beginners, and experts will also have fun with it as well!!     The quilt is made with some basic piecing techniques and the blocks go together on point with setting triangles.  But no worry, I left you a little wiggle room so you can trim each block to perfection!!   The cornerstones are just so cute and set the blocks off perfectly :)

This version of  Tying the Knot is made with Songbook a New Page by Fancy That Design House for Moda Fabrics! I just love these beautiful Colors and the prints are just gorgeous.    And of course, the sky is the limit on which fabrics you make it from, and it is always so fun to see all of the different fabric choices you all make!!!  The quilt is Fat Quarter Friendly, so you can Grab a Bundle and get cutting!!!

I quilted this version of  Tying the Knot with some major custom quilting.  I did all over echoed paisleys in the background to really give lots of movement.  Then in the blocks I did Figure 8's, scalloped feathers, wavy lines, and pebbles.   And I did the cornerstones with little swirls.  I just love how it came together, but I will admit, it took a little while to get this giant quilt done with so much quilting ;)    But it was totally worth it for such pretty texture!!

And after I got the big Queen size quilted . . . I just couldn't help but make a Baby size   Tying the Knot !!!   I used low volume fat quarters from Meadowmere  that I had leftover from my Bountiful quilt. .  I just love how the metallic shines off of that beautiful Charcoal background!!  Isn't that just so fun, and a great way to use up some more Low Volumes!!!

I quilted the baby size in an all over loose feather design. It was fast and fun and perfect for this little quilt.   And up close, you can see how I fussy cut all of the bees for the cornerstones and center of the blocks.   So cute!!!

And if you are like me, and want to make multiple sizes, you can find the sizes that work just right for you!!!  The pattern has 6 size options :  Baby, Lap, Picnic, Twin, Queen and King.  So now you can make all the sizes :)

And that is my new  Tying the Knot quilts and Pattern!!!  And remember this preview from a few weeks ago , , , It's the Twin size :)

And you might recall, but my Happy Quilting Patterns have a new look!!!  But no worries, they are still filled with full color - wonderful illustrations to guide you along each step of the way.   You are going to have so much fun making these quilts ;)  And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)       And thanks to the  . .
