Happy 5th Birthday Sew Sampler!!!

Oh my goodness, I can not believe the Sew Sampler Box is 5 Years old :)   Happy Birthday Sew Sampler!!!!    And I am so looking forward to another year of these fantastic little boxes arriving on my doorstep, it really is just the best day of my month!!!   And so let's kick off a new year with the April 2021 Sew Sampler Box and the theme this month is Town Square and it is just awesome!!!

And I was just thrilled when I lifted the cover of my box to find a Sunday Stroll Fat Quarter Pack!!   I have worked with this line when I made the Stroll quilt for Moda, and it is just gorgeous!!!  That black print is actually my favorite in the line!!!  (hence why it is in this sneak peak too ;)   And the Starflower Quilt is just so cute!!  I always love these exclusive patterns.  I have some leftover Low Volume prints from the Stroll FQB I made the quilt with, so now I am just trying  to decide if I should use those as the background in this quilt, or keep it solid.   Decisions, Decisions :)

And the notions for this Birthday Celebration are so great!!!! First off, this adorable Keep it Quilty Canvas Project Bag.   Isn't that just so great!!!  It just has quilter written all over it, literally ;)   And of course, the 3" Square in a Square Foundation paper is great for the sashing in the Starflower Quilt Pattern.   And finally, these Keep it Quilty Labels, that totally match the bag and are just so fun. How cute will they look tucked in a binding ;)

And last but not least . . . And I am so very excited for this . . .   With a new year of  the Sew Sampler Box, comes a new sampler quilt and this year it is the Bright Side Quilt Along!!!!  And I had to laugh, because I saw the title of the quilt along, and immediately thought of making the opposite ;)   I have just fallen in love with all of the neutral quilts that are popping up and thought this sampler would just be awesome in all neutrals.  Then I realized I have a stack of scraps from all of Basic Grey's Neutral Lines (ie, Little Black Dress, Little Black Dress 2, Stiletto, and Maven) that would work perfect for a Neutral Bright Side . . .

And here is Block 1 of the Bright Side Quilt along in beautiful Basic Grey Neutrals ;)   I have no idea what blocks are to come but I am so excited to see where this is going to go.   I just love all of these prints (hence why I have so many scraps from so many lines) and I love the idea of combining all of the scraps into one fun sampler quilt.   Should be fun!!!   And yippee for Scrap Busting!!!!

And just a note, there was some openings for this new years Sew Sampler boxes but they filled up super fast.  There is currently a waiting list as the box subscription is full.   But hopefully the wait isn't to long.  (I have been told new spots open up each week!!!)

And that is April's  Sew Sampler Box and I am so looking forward to May's Box ;)  I can't wait to see what the Box Theme and the Block 2 will be ;)

Only 30 Days to wait ;)

Kaisley Rose Fabric Tour

So I am sure by now, you know how much I love  Poppie Cotton Fabric by my good friends Jina and Lori.  So of course, when they asked if I wanted to join in so I was super happy to when they asked if I wanted to join in their Kaisley Rose Fabric Tour I said a resounding yes ;)    I had drafted up this quilt design a few months ago with the idea of making it into a new pattern and knew Kaisley Rose would be just the perfect match for a baby size version!!!   Isn't it just so fun!!!!

I really do love working with Poppie Cotton's!!!  The fabric is wonderful with a beautiful hand and the artwork is just stunning.   I just love how adorable this line is!!!   I love the happy colors in the line and opted to just use the pinks and blues in the quilt so the piecing would pop.   But the low volumes and greens are super adorable as well!!!

The mushrooms are my favorite print, just so cute!!!  And the sampler print is a close second runner, the little bunnies and the deer and bees are just so adorable :)   And I just love the mixture of soft pinks with the deep reds and sky blues with the deep teals.   So gorgeous!!

And yes, I am planning on making this into a quilt pattern ;)   My plan is to call it Flower Child, it has that fun vibe I think.    I hope to get this done in the very near future, but I am just starting work on a larger picnic size version and so it might take me a little bit ;)  But it will be coming for sure and will use my Modified Drunkards Path Templates, yippee for curves!!!

But for today, it is all about the fabric ;) And I just love that Country Confetti Basics!!  I used Cupcake for the background and Strawberry Lemonade for the Pop fabric.  Having the right background and pop fabric is what really makes this design stand out, and these Country Confetti Basics were just perfect!!   And having the same binding as the pop fabric really just makes that pop fabric pop all the more ;)

And you might have guessed, but I didn't need a whole Fat Quarter for the piecing of the prints. (the baby size is more charm pack friendly :)   So what do you do with the Fat Quarter Scraps . . . Make an adorable pieced backing.   It's just the perfect way to finish the quilt ;)

And that is all for today ;)   Thank you so much to Jina and Lori for allowing me to play with these fantastic Poppie Cottons fabrics!!!   And for more  Kaisley Rose Fabric fun, be sure to Hop over to the Poppie Cottons blog   for lots more projects made with this wonderful fabric :)     And if you want to make your own  Poppie Cottons quilt, here is where you can find them ;)

Thanks for popping in today and every day.  I am just so grateful to have this space to share my love of fabric, piecing, and all things quilting!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Stroll Quilt now Available!!

So you might recall at the end of last year when I shared my Stroll Quilt, well, I am happy to say that the Sunday Stroll fabrics are now available!!   (That was a long 6 month wait :)  The fabric was a little delayed, but it is so worth the wait.   I just love these Sunday Stroll fabrics by  Camille and Bonnie!!

I just had so much fun making this Stroll quilt!!   The Stroll pattern is by Camille and it is awesome and easy to follow.   And it is fun to get to piece so many different blocks for one quilt.   I just love the layout as well,  so adorable!!  I know many of you expressed how you just loved this quilt, so I wanted to let you know that it is now available as it has been a long wait ;)

And how fun that the quilt I made is the cover girl for the Quilt Kit!!!  Fat Quarter Shop has a Kit  that is now available.  The kit has the pattern, Sunday Stroll Fat Quarters, Background and Binding.  Oh, and the quilt finishes at 65" x 78" so it makes a wonderful summertime lap quilt!!!

I can't wait for this quilt to come home when it is done with it's little trip to lots of quilt shops.  It is just going to be such a happy quilt to add to the collection ;)

Oh, and speaking of Sunday Stroll fabrics, I shared a little sneak peek last week of my  Moroccan Lullaby 2 quilt that will soon be a new pattern release  . . . did you catch that the baby size was made with Sunday Stroll??    Love this fabric and it pairs so great with the Cross Weave Background!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

Fresh off the Long Arm

I have been quilting up a storm the last few days and I  am just thrilled with the results!!   Any time I decide to do a whole lot of pebbling and changing out colors of thread, I know it is going to take a while, but it is always so worth it when it is done ;)  Isn't that just so pretty!!!

And the back looks just as cool!!!   Eeekkk!!!   I am so glad I went with a black background, it really just shows off all of that yummy quilting ;)

And if you haven't recognized this design yet, it is my new Moroccan Lullaby 2 quilt that I started last month and said was Coming Soon :)   I finally picked the baby size fabric as well and got that worked up too.   Which means . . . the pattern will actually be Coming Soon now!!!   I just need to bind and finish up some last edits of the new pattern and then take some pictures.

Thanks for being so patient.  I can't wait to share these new quilts.  I just love them!!

I hope you are all having a very happy quilting weekend!

Stacks of Blocks!!

At the beginning of the year, I shared some saved bundles that I was cutting up for two class projects at the Quilty Friends Retreat.   Well, I am happy to say that they didn't just get set aside after class :)  I have been working on these bit by bit in between other projects and the other day finished the blocks for both quilts!!!

The first set of blocks is for the Flower Market class.  I used the blacks and pinks from   Olive's Flower Market Bundle by Lella Boutique .  I am just so excited with how these blocks came together.  I love the colors and think it is going to be the cutest quilt!!!  I can't wait to get it all sashed :)

The second set of blocks is for the Midnight Crossing class.   This is a design by Fig Tree Quilts and Co.  and it is a Halloween quilt, but I opted for Christmas, using Merry Stars Here bundle by Sweetwater.    And I totally upsized the blocks from the pattern so that this will finish at a queen size quilt.   I just love all of those happy stars . . . another one to get sewn into a quilt top fast!!!

And speaking of sewing into a quilt top . . . I also have my stacks of Greatest Hits blocks from the 2020 Sew Sampler Box that need to be sewn into a quilt top as well.  I am not sure how I plan to sash this one yet, but as soon as I decide, it is going to be sewn up to.

So ya, three stacks of blocks, all just waiting to be sewing up into quilt tops ;)   Oh, well, I guess I should be totally candid and say I have two others sets of blocks that are done and just waiting to be put into quilt tops, but those two other sets have been waiting for over a year.   So ya, we don't bring them up :)   Here's to not letting these 3 add to the "someday" pile :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting day, and who knows, maybe you can even break out some of your Someday projects and make a little dent in them :)

Garden of Quilts - 2021!!!

Garden of Quilts 2021 is a Go!!!   I am just thrilled to share that this amazing event is moving forward and I can't wait for September :)    This is just the thing to look forward to when we will all be getting back to "normal" ;)   And I would just love for you to join me and all of the amazing teachers, presenters, and most importantly, quilts!!!

The first Garden of Quilts was held in September 2019 to celebrate Riley Blake's 10th Anniversary!!!  The event was a huge hit.   And last year, even thought the classes, cancels, and trunk shows had to be cancelled due to Covid-19, the Garden was still filled with quilts for all to come and visit!!!  I had 5 quilts hanging in the Garden and I was so happy to be a part of it, even if I couldn't go and teach :)

But now, I am just thrilled that Garden of Quilts 2021 is moving forward and the Registration opens today!!!  It will once again be held at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi Utah  on September 15th - 18th, 2021.  There will be lots and lots of classes to choose from, as well as lectures, trunk shows, vendors, and of course, all of them amazing quilts in the outdoors!!!    I can't wait to see them all blowing in the breeze ;)  And you can be part of the Garden of Quilts show and submit a quilt for display . . . see all the details for submission here.

And I am super thrilled this year to not only be teaching classes but to be doing a Trunk Show as well!!!  I will be sharing my Charming Baby Quilts Trunk Show on Friday at 12:00 PM in the garden. All of the trunk shows for the day are included in your Admission ticket.   I am just so excited to share all of these quilts, including all of the remix's, in such a fun and amazing venue :)

And right after the Trunk Show, I get to teach!!!   I will be teaching 3 classes at Garden of Quilts 2021!!!  Nordic Nights will be taught on Friday afternoon,  and then Desert Rose on Saturday Morning and finally,  Decades Past on Saturday afternoon.   I am so looking forward to all 3 classes and hope to see you in them ;)    They are going to be so much fun!!

And even if you are not from the Utah area, this event is so worth the trip!!!  It really is a rock star line up of teachers (which I am so honored to be a part of!!) as well as an incredible venue of over 55 gorgeous acres hosting an amazing line up of quilts all in the wild.

You can see all of the details at the Main Garden of Quilts page .   I am so looking forward to this and hope to see you there!!!!  Won't it just be so great to get to sew together again :)

Improv Table Runner

We spent last week in Salt Lake visiting my family for Spring Break.  It was so wonderful to be able to gather together and enjoy each other company, especially my sister who traveled down from Washington State.  I also loved getting to gift my twin sister this Improv Table Runner.

When I shared the Guiding Stars Quilt I made for my friends at Moda, my sister called me right up to tell me how much she loved it, especially the panels in the quilt.   I knew at this point I would be seeing her in a month, and I had a few panels left over from the quilt so I thought, why not make her a special surprise :)

I used the leftover scraps from my Guiding Stars Quilt to do some improv piecing around the panels.  I tried not to plan this ahead, and just stitch as I go and see where it lead me.   That is a harder way for me to piece, but I really liked the random nature of the borders that it created.  Of course, you can't help but create something beautiful with these Songbook Fabrics!

When it came time to quilt it, I decided on an all over curly q, but I added a little hoop on the end of each curl.   I really like it!!   And I decided to use double batting so that it would be extra puffy, and that made it super soft as well :)

And I had one extra panel square, and this one just happens to be my sister's favorite, so I put it in the backing.   I think the backing is just as pretty as the front :)   I love it when that happens!!

And now, it is happily found a home on my sister's dining room table :)   And she just loves it!!!   This was such a fun and fast project.  I really should do more improv piecing with my scraps.  It really is quite rewarding to just start sewing and see what comes from it.    Songbook Fabrics will be available in May, so not to much longer to wait ;)   And if you love the panels as much as I (and my sister do) you can have an email sent to you when the Guiding Stars Quilt Kit is available.    And you will even have a few extra panels if you want to make a table runner as well :)

Oh, and for fun, I thought I would share . . . Since all of my family was gathered together, we took family pictures!!!

The Whole Powell Family!!

The Grandkids :)

My Parents and Siblings!!

This is the last time we might all be together for a long time as teenagers are getting older and will be moving out for missions/college/marriage in the next few years.   So these family picture are a treasure for sure ;)  My little sister took the pictures and is going to be editing them over the next few weeks, but sent us these initial photo's.   I can't wait to get the finals and hang them on my wall :)

The Love of Family is One of Life's Greatest Blessings!!!!
