August Aurifil Designer BOM

The August Aurifil Designer Block of the Month was released a few days ago and I was pretty excited because I knew this block would go fast and with the craziness of the start of school, I totally needed some fast sewing in my life !!!  I can't even say how nice it was to sit down and have a finished block 20 minutes later ;)    August's block was all about Yellow Orange and  Brenda Ratliff created this super happy Bright Sun block!!!    Isn't that just so fun!!!

And I had to laugh this morning as I tried to take a picture of the block and there was zero sun out.   Is it a little silly that I am posting a Bright Sun block on Eclipse day??  I got a kick out of that.   Anyhow, this little sunshine block is sure brightening my day ;)

I was super grateful to have my Aurifil 2145 Yellow Orange thread to help me pick out the right color fabrics for this block.  I realized right off that I have a lot of yellow, a lot of orange, but not so much Yellow Orange.  So yet again, I am glad this was a quick block that only used 3 prints or I was going to be a little stuck on fabrics ;)   And don't you just love that fun background print from Sherri and Chelsi.   It fits the bright sun just perfect!!!

So that is my Aurifil August Block!!!  You can find Brenda's fantastic pattern for this block right over here and then be sure to pop over here to read Brenda's interview.     And if you make your own Bright Sun Block  be sure and enter a picture of it at Pat's blog ;)  Every entry is eligible to win a Large Aurifil Thread Kit!!!!!

Only 4 months to go ;)   I am so excite to see this fun sampler come together!!!

Have a Happy Quilting Day!!!

Luck of the Irish Quilt

I am so super excited to be sharing my finished Luck of the Irish Quilt today!!!!  I started the plan for this quilt clear back on  St. Partick's Day, and so it is just thrilling to finally see it all done.   And I am just so happy with all of it's Irish Goodness!!!

I can't believe this one has taken me so long to get started and made because you all know how much I love Irish Chain Quilts right!!!!  This is a classic Double Irish Chain and I am excited because it also finishes off my desire to make a Single, Double, and Triple Irish Chain Quilt.   Yippee for a trio of Classic Irish Chain Goodness.

It also has some extra special quilty meaning behind it, because it is essentially a remake of the quilt that started my entire love for Irish Chain Quilts.  My Mother made me this double Irish Chain quilt for my wedding and it is what started my quilting journey.  So it seemed only fitting to make a new scrap happy version in green of course ;)

Especially in the year where Greenery is the Pantone color of the year!!!!  It was just meant to be right ;)   And I just love all of the scrappy happy greens that I got in Fat Quarter Shop's Greenery bundle.  It was just perfect for this!!!

I used the Luck of the Irish Quilt Pattern from Moda.   It is part of their Color of Moda 12 pack quilts!!! You can read more about the 12 pack in Carrie's post here.   And  you can find the pattern with the Green Bella Solids Bundle ;)  It is a great pattern that goes together nice and quick with lots of strip piecing.   It is the second time I have made this pattern now and I just love it!!!

When it came time to quilt my Luck of the Irish, I knew right away that I wanted to do arches in the squares.   I used two different color green's, a dark King Tut thicker thread to really highlight the center dark green and a fun variegated green thread to tie in all of the scrappy greens.   And then in the background, I tried a new swirl that Rebecca shared on her instagram feed.  It is just like a regular swirl only you leave the center hollow.   And it was so much fun and I just love the look it gives.  I am sure I will be doing this again soon :)

And oh my, talk about some super yummy texture it created!!!!   I just want to snuggle up with this for hours :)  Honestly, I can't stop running my hand over the top of it ;)

And that is my Luck of the Irish quilt!!!   I can't help but smile every time I see it because it is such a wonderful reminder of where this journey all started.  It is now hanging next to my Single and Triple Irish Chain Quilts and it is fun to see them all three in a set :)

And one last shot with some Greenery goodness, just for fun!!!

Thank you so much for popping in today and each day!!!

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

One Last Weekend Roll!!!

Sorry things have been so quiet around here this last week.  We had one last little family hurrah and headed up to Salt Lake for a few days to visit family and friends and do some last minute school shopping, which was aptly timed as school starts tomorrow ;)   And I was super excited to visit the newest member of our family, little Eleanor who was born last week!!!  She is my twin sister's 4th little one and she is just a doll!!!   What a precious little angel :)  I could have snuggled her all day, what a cutie!!!

We also got to take the kids to tour the newly redone Missionary Training Center in Provo Utah.   This is where missionaries from the LDS faith go to prepare before they leave to various places around the world to teach.  My husband lived here for 6 weeks before going on his mission, and so it brought back of flood of memories for him :) And it was great for the kids to get an idea of what it was like and get to ask their dad all kinds of fun questions about his experiences.     I was incredibly grateful that the Open House coincided with our little trip because it was a wonderful visit!!!

And the rest of the time we were enjoying making wonderful memories with family and friends.  We mostly sat around and talked, and laughed and ate ;)  Which always tend to be my favorite times!!!  The kids loved spending time in the pool with our long time friends from Indiana who now live in Salt Lake.  It is always so great to get to catch up and see how much our families are growing!!!  What an amazing long weekend, just the perfect way to end off the summer and head into a new School Year!!!!

And with school starting, you know I am getting all kinds of excited about the increased sewing time I will suddenly have each day ;)  I was catching up on social media this morning and saw that Moda's Project Jelly Roll day is only 1 month away!!!   I was so excited, I ran down to my sewing room and picked out a Jelly Roll Project that I can sew on Sept 16th ;)    I have always wanted to make a baby size version of my Petal Pop pattern and I think Lella Boutiques new Farmer's Daughter line will fit it just perfect!!!   Now just to wait until Sept 16th to sew it, I make no promises ;)

I hope you have had a very Happy Quilting weekend!!!   I'll be back tomorrow with TTGD :)
