National Sew a Jelly Roll Day . . . Inspiration and Giveaway!!

Today is National Sew a Jelly Roll Day!!!!   And I am celebrating with a Giveaway (see end of post!!)

Just in case you don't have a project picked out . . . Here is some last minute ideas if you need a little Jelly Roll Inspiration :)

Petal Pop is probably my most popular Jelly Roll friendly pattern.  I have taught this class so many times, and it is always a favorite among students.   It would be a great one to sew up tomorrow, and it comes in multiple size options, so you don't have to make this big King size ;)

Braided Irish Chain is also another popular one of my Jelly Roll friendly patterns. In fact, I just taught this class yesterday at Garden of Quilts!!   Oh so much fun ;)

And I also have a lot of great Jelly Roll Tutorials!!   One of my all time favorites is my Read with Me quilt.  This book quilt is easy to make with Jelly Rolls and then just a bit of applique to finish it off.  I just love this quilt, and it is still a treasure in our home.   And most of all, I just love this picture, how cute are my kiddo's :)   They are now 16, 14, and 12!!

And if you have an Ombre Jelly Roll, or any solid color Jelly Rolls for that matter, Shine would be a great quilt to make up!!!   You all know I love a good Chain Quilt and this one really lets you play with the color placement in the chain.  So fun!!!

And Playing the Scales is also another popular one and it has a FREE PDF Pattern for it.     It is a great one for using up some of those low volume strips we don't know what to do with ;)

And I am super excited to be starting my own Jelly Roll Project today as well!!!  I am joining in the Simply Jelly Rolls Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop!!!  All you need to join in is a Simply Jelly Rolls book, a favorite jelly roll (I am using Evermore!!) and some yardage :)   I can't wait to get started!!!

And for today's giveaway . . . I have a Simply Jelly Roll book for one Happy Quilting reader!!

To enter . . . Simply leave a comment of what you plan to do to celebrate National Sew a Jelly Roll Day!!!    It's that simple.   I will choose a winner on Tuesday ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting (and Jelly Rolling) Weekend!!!

Keystone Corners for SUU!!!

Yup, today I get to share another SUU Quilt in my favorite Red, White, and Black color combo!!! and as I said yesterday, I decided to make some SUU Fast & Fun Lap Quilts and today I am sharing a red, white, and black Keystone Corners quilt! And I just love it ;)

For this version of Keystone Corners, I used White and Black prints from the Fleur Noire Collection from Riley Blake.  It is another perfect match for an Alma Mater quilt and paired with a Solid red background, those black and white prints just pop!!!!   And once again, I so just love the scrappy binding made with the leftovers of the Layer Cake :) It truly is my favorite way to finish a quilt!!

And once again, I added an SUU layered applique to the corner of the quilt. The sky is truly the limit when doing this fun method of applique!!   And it is so great for personalizing quilts!!   Again, you can find the step by step tutorial here for layered applique :)

When it came time to quilt this Fast & Fun Lap Quilt  I decided on my favorite for grid quilting ;)  The wavy orange peel.   I just love how it gives so much texture without having to worry about rulers.   And of course, a red thread was perfect for this quilt.

And that is my SUU Keystone Corners quilt from my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book !  Keystone Corners finishes at 60 1/2" x 60 1/2" so it is a great size for a lap quilt ;)  Oh, and if you make your own Keystone Corners quilt, I would love to see it!!  You can share your quilts with me on social media using hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and #fastandfunlapquilts and tag me @happyquiltingmc or you can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.

Thanks so much for popping in for another quilt finish!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!

Jacks for SUU!!!

It's Homecoming time and that means more SUU Quilts in my favorite Red, White, and Black color combo!!! This year, I decided to make some SUU Fast & Fun Lap Quilts and today I am sharing a red, white, and black Jacks quilt! Isn't it just so fun ;)

For this version of Jacks, I used red and white prints from the Red Hot Collection from Riley Blake.  It is perfect for an Alma Mater quilt and paired with a Blossom Black Background, those red and white prints just pop!!!!   And you gotta love the scrappy binding made with the leftovers of the Layer Cake :)  I just love using up every last bit of it ;)  I have been in a bit of a time crunch so Barbara did the piecing of this one for me and I am oh so grateful :)

And this morning, I added my SUU layered applique to the corner of the quilt.  I just love how this adds that personal touch to the quilt ;)   It really is a fun method of applique, and if you haven't done it before, there is a step by step tutorial here for layered applique :)

When it came time to quilt this Fast & Fun Lap Quilt  I decided on an all over swirl in a rather large scale in a black thread.   I just love how it adds so much texture to this super fun quilt ;)

And that is my SUU Jacks quilt from my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book !  Jacks finishes at 62 1/2" x 77 1/2" so it is a great size to cuddle up in, and your toes will still be covered ;)  Oh, and if you make your own Jacks quilt, I would love to see it!!
