Vintage Stitches Quilt

It's always a fun day when I get to share some secret sewing!! I was thrilled when my good friends at Moda Fabrics asked if I would make the Vintage Stitching Quilt by Heather Briggs featuring her new Flower Girls Fabrics!!! And of course, I said yes, I mean, how can you not want to stitch up these vintage roses, so fun!!!!

I had oh so much fun making this quilt!!!   I just loved how seemed like I was cross stitching a quilt :)  And all of this is basic piecing, but as you can see, it is a lot of little tiny pieces!!!  I found it super helpful to have my Alphabitties for labeling!!   And stacking up the two separate blocks and chain stitching each row of all the left blocks and then each row in all the right blocks was a huge time saver.

This is one of those quilts where keeping organized makes all the difference!!   And it turns out just so pretty!!!   And of course, the scalloped corners just adds to the Vintage look of the whole thing ;)  I just love how soft and delicate this quilt is, from the design, to the colors, to the prints, everything is just vintage goodness!!!      It finishes at 60" x 78" so it is a great size to have as a throw on a couch or hang on a wall.

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided on all over Curly Q.   I love how it just adds so many curves to all of the straight piecing.   And it adds so much soft texture to this already, super soft quilt.   Just love it!!

And now this Vintage Stitching quilt is off visiting lots of quilt shops hopefully bringing some Vintage goodness wherever it travels :)  So I will have to wait for it to arrive back home, (I think this would make the prettiest wedding quilt!!)  But you don't have to wait!!! Flower Girl Fabrics  are shipping now and Fat Quarter Shop has a Vintage Stitching Quilt Kit available !!  (and guess who's quilt that is in the picture, I know I'm silly, but it just makes me smile ;)  Now you can whip up your own Vintage Stitches Quilt  too!!!

I know you are just going to have so much fun making your own ;)   It really is just the touch of spring that so need after all the snow ;)   And it makes such a gorgeous finish that would be a lovely gift or treasured keepsake.

And that is it for today !!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

Dizzy Days Irish Chain in Nature Sings!!!

Today I am thrilled to be sharing my newest quilt finish with you featuring the gorgeous Nature Sings Fabric Collection by Lori Woods!! I just love Poppie Cotton's collections, and am always so happy to sew with them.   As soon as these prints arrived at my house I knew just what I wanted to make with them!!!  I have had a Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt with a dark background on my "to make soon" list ever since I finished the pattern, and I knew this collection would be just perfect for it!!!

This  Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt  is so much fun to make and it is Pre-cut friendly as well as Scrappy friendly.    All you need is to add some background fabric. I used Blue Ribbon Dark Blue Country Confetti for my background fabric and I just love how it  makes all of those beautiful prints and colors just pop :)   And the pattern also has  option for a scrappy binding, which is always my favorite.  How fun are those pops of colors around the edge!!!

And while this might look a little crazy, it truly is a great beginner quilt with basic quilting techniques.   You are making a "Single Irish Chain" quilt, but with a twist as all of the "chain pieces" are different sizes.    And the fun thing is, the random layout of the blocks means no two quilts will look alike.  your quilt will be your own original Chain of Scrappy Goodness.

And when it came time to quilt mine, I opted for all over echoed meander.  I love how this gives the look of a twisting path weaving through the quilt.   Perfect for our Nature Sings quilt ;)   And I just love how my navy thread pops on all of those pretty prints!!   So great.

And like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, the the nice thing is, the Dizzy Days Irish Chain Pattern has multiple size options, so you can make whatever size you like. This is the twin size, but you can make it from a baby size all the way to a king size ;)   And again, it is an amazing pattern if you need to do some scrap busting!!  I already plan to make it again in scrappy reds and greens for a Christmas quilt ;)

And that is my Dizzy Days Irish Chain Quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider making your own Dizzy Days Irish Chain Quilt!!! And if you do, I would love to see them! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags  #happyquiltingwithmc and #dizzydaysirishchainquilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Dizzy Days Irish Chain Quilts!!

Thank you so much for popping by and sharing this finish with me and thank you to my wonderful friends at Poppie Cotton for always letting me play with their gorgeous fabrics!!!

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

GO! Scrappy Little Diamond Quilt and Free Pattern!!!

I am so excited to share a new finish today!!! Isn't it just so happy making!!!   I have made lots of variations on Log Cabin quilts, and lots and lots of Log Cabin Blocks, but never a true "Log Cabin Quilt".  Until now . . .here is my Scrappy Little Diamond Quilt!!!!      And there is a free PDF Pattern that you can download right here :)

The Scrappy Little Diamond Quilt is made using the AccuQuilt Log Cabin BOB .  This is a great way to really go through your scrap bins.   And since my Red and Pink binds wouldn't shut, I figured they were the perfect color combo for this quilt.  (with a little pop of purple, because ya know, I love purple!!)  Log Cabin Blocks are such a great scrap buster, but I think we avoid them sometimes because cutting a billion 1 1/2" strips is kind of daunting.  But cutting with AccuQuilt is great for cutting up your scraps quick and efficiently  ;)     Scrappy Little Diamond Quilt finishes at 48" x 48" so it is a great baby to lap size quilt.

Log Cabin blocks are just so much fun to make!!!   I started the centers with my little 1 1/2" purple square and then added pink and red strips moving outward.   And you have endless options for layouts of Log Cabin blocks, but I loved this little Diamond pattern ;)    Below is a list of the dies I used to make these log cabin blocks, you only need the one BOB, and the Binding one is optional ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided on a loose all over feather design.  I love how it just adds so much curvy goodness to all of those straight lines in the piecing.   And I love all of the texture it adds as well, makes it so snuggly good!!

And that is my Scrappy Little Diamond Quilt.   I hope you love it as much as I do ;)   Isn't this picture AccuQuilt took of it just so great!!!  I love seeing it styled in a home setting.    And if you want to make your own, you can download the free PDF Scrappy Little Diamond Pattern Here.   And when you are done I would love to see it!!!    You can share a picture on social media with #happyquiltingwithmc and tag me at @happyquiltingmc or you can always email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.  I can't wait to see your Scrappy Little Diamond Quilts!!

Thanks for popping in and sharing this finish with me today!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
