Last week I got some super exciting news!! Back to Basics was accepted to be part of the Modern Quilt Guild Showcase at International Quilt Market and Festival this fall!! Super Happy dance :) I love this design and quilt and am so very excited that it has this wonderful honor to be showcased.
And the timing could not be more perfect as the quilts are returned in December and I am teaching this as a class the first week in January at the Quilt St. George retreat :) I am so looking forward to that class. I added size options to the pattern so it will be so fun to see what fabrics and sizes my students choose ;)
I best go add a quilt sleeve to this so I can get it in the mail ;) EEEkkk!!!!
Have a Happy Quilting Weekend ;)
P.S. The kids all had a great first day of school, mom sighs with relief :)

A Quilter's Mixology & Giveaway!!!
This morning I am so excited to review A Quilter's Mixology by Angela Pingel. I got to know Angela when I first stepped onto the internet quilting scene through the VIBees. Angela quickly became a fast friend and a wonderful inspiration and mentor for me so of course, I am thrilled to get to share this wonderful book written by my wonderful friend ;)
And Angela was the brains behind the ever popular Super Mario Brothers Quilt-A-Long ;)
And she also Won the Sliced Competition hosted by Moda. I still totally want to make that adorable backpack!!!
And finally, the Flower Power quilt. I think this was my favorite quilt in the book. I love the bold and yet simple design. And how fun to really highlight some favorite fabrics in such a big way!!!
Angela blogs at Cut To Pieces But even if you haven't visited her blog before (which you totally should because she is amazing!!!) you have probably seen some of her gorgeous works. Remember this Dream a Little Dream mini from that Doll Quilt Swap on Flickr . . . yup, that is Angela's gorgeous work!!
And Angela was the brains behind the ever popular Super Mario Brothers Quilt-A-Long ;)

So ya, Angela. We all know her from her amazing projects and this book is no exception!!! A Quilter's Mixology is an amazing compilation of projects that all add a contemporary twist on the traditional Drunkard's Path Block. I was fortunate enough to attend the Quilter's Mixology School House at Market in spring and see all of the beautiful projects in this book up close :)
There are so many great projects in the book, but I wanted to share some of my personal favorites. The first is the Nini Patch Curves Quilt. I love that Angela took a simple 9 patch block and transformed them into beautiful flowers. And of course, I love the bright happy colors she set against the low volume background, it is just so happy.
The second quilt is the Butterflies quilt. Now this one is simply adorable!!! What a creative way to showcase the drunkard path block!!! When my daughter saw this picture she instantly wanted a bedspread just like it ;) Another one to add to the list ;)
And finally, the Flower Power quilt. I think this was my favorite quilt in the book. I love the bold and yet simple design. And how fun to really highlight some favorite fabrics in such a big way!!!
Now, I know what your thinking, those are all curved quilts!!! But no worries ;) Angela has included in her book step by step instructions on Fearless Curved Piecing!!! It really does go through all the ins ad outs to make you feel confident in piecing curves. And, she even made this video recently for all of those people that like to see it in real time ;)
Drunkard's Path block here I come ;) There are so many amazing projects in the book and each one is such an original and creative way of using the drunkards path block. Angela really did design something for everyone!!! Be sure to follow Angela over at Cut To Pieces because she has the official A Quilter's Mixology blog tour heading for you soon and you will get to see lots more of all her amazing projects in this book!!!

Drift Away
This morning I am so excited to get to share a secret finish!! I made this quilt back in April and I loved it then and fell in love all over again when it came back from the publishers this week. I love the mixture of the bold interweaving geometric design and the subdued nature of the fabrics. So, without further ado . . . here is Drift Away!!
Drift Away is in the September / October issues of Quilt-It . . . today :) This issue is out now and it has so many great projects in it!! I love that Fall to Pieces quilt on the cover!!
I always get excited to see how a magazine photographer decides to picture my quilt. I totally think they hit the mark on this one. Doesn't that just make you want to lay down under a tree with a good book and drift off to sleep ;) The quilt measures 59" x 59" so it is just perfect for a little snooze in the park ;)
Drift Away is made using Angela Walters stunning collection Drift for Art Gallery Fabrics. These fabrics are incredible!! The beautiful tones and gorgeous prints really did make me want to Drift Away while making it, there just so soft and soothing.
When it came time to quilt this I decided on some free motion all over swirls. I love swirls!!! They are so incredibly fun to quilt and I love the overall effect the add to the quilt. I used So Fine #50 in Putty by Superior Threads to quilt this. I loved how well it blended with all of the different colors!!
And, with the bonus of using a solid back, you really get to see all the yummy quilting texture. Isn't that so fun!!! Ah, I just love me some swirls ;)
I hope you like the quilt as much as I do ;) If you make it someday I would love to see it. You can add it to my Flickr group here ;) And now, I might need to go take that nap under the tree . . . all I need to do is pick out a good book :)
Have a Happy Quilting Weekend!!
Linking this finish up to Amanda's and Sarah's :)
