Jessica's Qube Sampler - Blocks 4, 5, & 6 on the Way

You might recall, my daughter Jessica is working on a GO! Qube Sampler.   We have been working on squeezing in a little sewing time, which can sometimes be difficult to have free time for both of us, at the same time :)  But I just love how excited she gets to pick out a new block to work on!!      And since is using my Go! Qube Dies she has a lot of options on blocks.  And she certainly doesn't shy away from the ones with more pieces ;)   So I wanted to show them here so you all can share in my delight of her continued progress.

This is the Mosiac #6 block from the GO! Qube Book, and we laughed that it should have been the sixth block she did, but it's all good.   This one had a lot of points to match, and she did a great job with that.   I love that the GO! Qube  dies have all of the corners clipped on these angled pieces, it makes it much easier for Jessica to line them up.   And I just love her fabric choices.  She is really great at picking a main fabric, and then choosing other fabrics from the block that bring out the colors in the main fabric.  So fun!!!

Her Block 5 is the Flashing Windmills from the Go! Qube Book.  And on this bock, Jessica decided she wanted to try it "on her own" without any help from me.   I stayed in "mom" range so that I could answer he questions, but she wasn't going to let me touch a piece of fabric to aid in aligning or pinning.  And I think she did amazing!!!   She had a few points that weren't quite so crisp, but learned a lot, and that is what really counts. And as soon as she was done, she wanted to cut out another block, which was a good sign to me that mom's hands off didn't scare her away :)

So this is the 6th block she cut the other day, and I will be interested to see if she wants to go back to a little more mom guidance, or if she is going to keep that spirit of "I can" and do it all on her own.    I know I am hoping for the latter, but of course, will be there to assist in any way I can.   I am just thrilled that she is loving this.  If she can master these shapes in quilting, then she has a great base ;)   And once she has this down, we can add some more shapes and angles to the mix, and that is always fun.

I keep hoping to make a little more time to work on more blocks, but life happens.   I guess I just to remind myself to be grateful for the time that we get to sew together, and truly, it is so wonderful.   I'll keep sharing more of Jessica's Qube Sampler blocks as she sews them up!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

11 Might be To Many???

So here I am, starting some more New Projects ;)   Which is always a fun thing, but I might be getting a little out of control.   I noticed this morning that I now have 11 bindings ready for finished quilts.   That means I have 11 current WIP's with shorter deadlines.  I don't make the bindings first for my longer "just enjoy the process" projects as it throws me off, which is good, as I have about 4-5 of those too, tee hee hee.   So ya, I think it is time to buckle down and start making some finishes.  The good new is, 2 of these are quilt tops ready to be quilted, 3 are quilt blocks ready to be sewn into a quilt top, and 2 are projects that have quite a bit of piecing done.   There are only these 4 brand new ones :)

I am so super excited to be a part of  Poppie Cotton's new Prairie Sisters Fabric Blog Tour.   Poppie Cotton is a new fabric company started by my good friend Jina Barney and Lori Woods.  Their fabrics are just beautiful and are wonderful to sew with.   To see more of the Prairie Sisters Fabric Blog Tour check out the Poppie Cotton Blog.  I will be sharing my project on March 20th, and I can't wait.

And then I was asked by another wonderful friend if I wanted to do a little secret sewing :)   And of course, I love a little secret sewing and since I don't have to keep this one secret for to long, I was all in.  For this project I am using these adorable Gretel Fabrics from my wonderful friend Amy Smart!!  And I am glad I don't have to keep this project secret for to long, because with these adorable fabrics, I just now it is going to be so cute, and I can't wait to share more!!

And with all of that, I couldn't help but jump in on the Moda Love sew-along.  I know, I really don't need another project, and I am late to the game, but I have had this pattern saved since it first came out and always wanted to make it.   And so the other day I pulled out some stashed layer cakes and starting mixing two.   Yup, this project to make a Moda Love quilt, turned into 2 Moda Love quilts :)   But these are going to be super fast to sew up, right ;)

And as I am writting this post, I just got word that I had a magazine submission accepted.  So fun!!!  So I guess that makes 12 :)    It is going to be a weekend full of petal to the metal kind of stitching!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy (and hopefully productive) Quilting Weekend!!!

Upcoming Teaching Times!!!!

I think one of my most favorite parts of getting involved in this amazing industry is the opportunity I have to teach and share my passion for quilting with fellow quilting friends ;) I know, I say it every time I get home from a retreat, but  I just love it.    And I am super excited, because in two months, I have the opportunity to teach at a new venue.    I was pleased as punch to be asked by Jina and Mona, the owners of the new UQSM (formerly known as HQSM) to come and teach for them!!!  So here is a quick rundown just in case you happen to be in the Salt Lake area.

UQSM on May 1 - May 4, 2019 at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy UT

I will be teaching 4 classes and hosting a Trunk Show at this amazing Utah Quilting and Sewing Marketplace Retreat!!!  It is going to be so much fun!!!  I will be teaching my Pave the Way Class on Thursday afternoon, and my Corkscrew Class on Thursday evening.   Then on Friday morning I will be teaching my Playground Picnic Class, followed by a Trunk Show that afternoon, and finally, my Petal Pop Class that Friday evening.    Yup, it is going to be 2 very busy days, but I know it is going to be so great!!!  I just love teaching these classes!!  I can't wait and maybe I will see you there!!!

And this is just one teaching venue for this year.   If you want to see other places I will be teaching, just click on the  Teaching/Events tab at the top of the page ;)   I am mostly in Utah, but I do travel outside the state as well, and hopefully at some point, I will be somewhere near by you :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting day!!!!

Desert Rose - New Finishes and a New Pattern!!!

I am super excited this morning to (finally) share my newest Quilt Pattern in the Happy Quilting pattern lineup ;)   It is called Desert Rose and I just love it!!!   I originally worked on this quilt way back here, and decided I wanted to tweak the design a bit before making it into a pattern.  I love the changes and still loved the name so I kept it.   And now it's ready to share and I am just thrilled!!!

The pattern can be found  found in my Etsy Shop,  and like all my new Pattern Releases, It is on Special!!!!  This week Desert Rose will be marked down to $5.50!!! After that, it will be marked at the regular pattern price of $8.50 :)

This quilt is great for teaching some wonderful basic building blocks and even though it looks like a crazy amount of piecing, it really goes together fast once your basic units are done.   And with the blocks finishing at 20" square, you can really make a big quilt in a little amount of time ;)

This version of Desert Rose is made using Sunnyside Up fabrics by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics.    I love the happy and bright rainbow of colors in this line and that Corey designed so many of the fabrics in the line to really read one color.  It really makes the design just pop and you can see every little bit of the piecing.  I just love that!!

And when it came time to quilt it I wanted to highlight that piecing all the more.  So I opted not to quilt on any of the print fabric to really make it stand out all the more.   Then I went to town on the bacgkround fabric.   Small swirls, feathers, and pebbles really added to this design.   And my Pearl 402 So Fine thread blended perfectly into the background leaving amazing texture.  It really is my go to quilting color ;)

And that is my new Desert Rose quilt!!!!  I am just head over heals with this finish and am so excited to be able to share this design in pattern form.   So let me tell you a bit more about the pattern ;)

Like all my patterns, Desert Rose has size options so you can make the quilt size that fits you ;)  You will find 4 size options, a Baby, Picnic, Twin, and a Queen size.  And it is Fat Quarter friendly, so it is easy to just grab some and get cutting!

And I had so much fun making the first quilt, I just couldn't stop and decided to make up a baby version as well :)   And isn't it just to cute for words!!!!

I used 4 pink prints from Dandi-Annie fabric by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics and then I combined them with my favorite Gris Grey Grunge background.   I just love pink and grey together, it makes for such a shabby chic combination ;)

And since you only have to make 4 blocks for a baby size, this quilt went together in no time at all.   It really makes a big statement for a new little one ;)

I quilted this version of Desert Rose in an all over loose feather design.   This really is becoming a favorite all over design.  It is so fun and fast.  Still so grateful for Rebecca for sharing how she does this!!!

And that's the baby version of Desert Rose.   So just a reminder, like all my patterns, this is a full color pattern that can be printed in either page format or book format.  It is filled with lots of wonderful illustrations to guide you along each step of the way.   You are going to have so much fun putting this together ;)  And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to email me ;)

So that's all of it!!!  My two new Desert Rose quilts and the new Desert Rose pattern!!!!  Again, the pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop and will be on special for $5.50 all this week ;)

Thanks for popping in today and I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

Linking up these finishes to Sarah's and Myra's :)
