Charming Baby Quilts Remix - Hugs and Kisses

Another Friday and another Charming Baby Remix!!!  This is quilt 4 of my Charming Baby Quilts Remix's and I am so excited to share it because I did a black background!!!!!    I don't do black backgrounds very often, but I sure love them when I do ;)  Here it is the Hugs and Kisse Remix quilt!!!!

Isn't this just so great!!!!  I just love, love, love how all of those happy bright colors just pop on the black ;)   I remixed the original design by adding more blocks and rows and of course, switching out to a dark background.   So fun :)  This Hugs and Kisses remix quilt finishes at 69 1/2" x 69 1/2" so it is perfect for snuggling up in and would make an amazing gift to anyone you wanted to send some Hugs and Kisses to :)    And It is just as easy to piece as the original, it's basically just making a few more blocks :)  (Pattern Adjustment's here)

And speaking of the original, here is my Hugs and Kisses quilt from Charming Baby Quilts.   This is such a great baby quilt, and can easily be made all boy or all girl depending on who you are making it for.   It will just be so great in whatever size or color you make it!!!

For this Hugs and Kisses remix, I used 4 Charm Packs and another twist in that I used 4 different charm packs by 4 different designers.   I really wanted to show that you don't always have to use the same fabric as you can mix and match fabrics for a super scrappy and happy look!!!!   So I grabbed 4 Charm Packs from my stash :)  I used Garden Variety by Lella Boutique, Strawberry Jam by Corey Yoder, Mama's Cottage by April Rosenthal and Handmade by Bonnie and Camille  And isn't it just so wonderful how all those happy bright colors just play so nice together and pop on that dark background!!!!  This remix uses 4 Charm packs and 4 yards of background fabric.   And it so fun to make, I just smiled the entire time I was working on it :)

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided I wanted to go a little crazy and super dense quilt the background and leave the blocks unquilted so they popped all the more.   And nothing says Dense like pebbles :)   And yes, they took a little while, although they went faster than they normally would as this was the first quilt on the new Long Arm and it is fast :)

And it worked out just like I had hoped!!!  So much quilty goodness in the background and those X's and O's just pop so well :)   I normally wouldn't leave such big areas unquilted, but this quilt will basically be for my Charming Baby Quilts Trunk Show for some time, so I am okay with it as it isn't going to be "used"  just yet :)   And I sure do love the look!!!

So do you want to make your own Charming Baby Remix Hugs and Kisses quilt??  Just download this free  PDF Hugs and Kisses Remix Instructions  document.  You will need a copy of my Charming Baby Quilts book to make the Remix as the download just includes the alternations and not the complete instructions.  You use the book and the download together ;)

And that is my Hugs and Kisses Remix quilt!!!  I hope you love it just as much as I do and want to make one of your own, either in the lap size or baby size ;)  And if you do,  I would love to see it!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or post it to social media with the hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and/or #charmingbabyquilts ;)  I can't wait to see your Hugs and Kisses Quilts!!!

A New Machine in the Family!!!

Oh my goodness, Oh my Goodness!!!!   It's a happy day at the Quilt House :)   Barbara and I added a new machine to our family of quilting workhorses.   And here it is, all set up and humming away.   The HQ Infinity 26  Long Arm.   We got it from our wonderful Local Quilt Shop, Stitching it Up, and Kim and Jeff were so great getting us up and running!!!  I think I might call her Ilsa, like Ingrid Bergman's character from Casablanca (Love that show!!)

Because of  some craziness of trying to get it all set up (the UPS guy accidently left a part on the truck) we didn't have a long arm to sew on for over a week, which doesn't sound long, but it sure felt long :)   So once this was all set up, we wasted no time loading the first quilt!!!   And oh my goodness, 26" of quilting space is sure huge when you are used to 18".   So fun!!!  And then the quilting began :)

And oh, does this thing stitch!!!  It's like driving a race car ;)   The biggest reason we decided on the Infinity is because it can do up to 3,100 stitches per minute, that is fast!!!  I tended to time out (go to fast for the stitch regulator) on the Avante but that doesn't look like it is going to be a problem on the Infinity!!!    I don't know if you can see in this picture, but I am pebbling the background on this quilt, and I have never done pebbles so fast, and it still is keeping up :)   So great!!!  And I will only have to roll the frame 4 times to do the whole quilt, yippee!!!  Watch for this finished quilt tomorrow ;)

So what is happening to the previously mentioned Avante . . . It's going up to the cabin!!!   I am so excited ;)  You might recall this post, where I mentioned that Bob and Barbara had finished their cabin and the loft is set aside for a sewing space.   Well, we managed to get the frame all taken apart and up to the cabin before the snow.   We have been waiting for it to melt, and tomorrow might be the day we can make it up to set it all up ;)  I will be sure to take pictures if we do get in :)  The space is really starting to come together and just in time, because when you go in the winter for a weekend, you can only play in the snow for so long and it gets dark around 4 and I am going to keep busy stitching away in this loft!!!  I can't wait!!!!

So if you need me . . . I will be stitching away at race car speeds!!!  Which is awesome because I need to finish up the Charming Baby Quilt Remix's.  I was hoping to share one last week, but like I said, no Long Arm ;)  So here is to lot's of quilting over the next week or two!!!   Oh, and total side-note, but speaking of Charming Baby Quilts, I was at amazon (Christmas shopping :) and randomly looked up my book and was thrilled to see that it is marked as Amazon's Choice.   How fun is that!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

I'll be back tomorrow with another Charming Baby Quilt Remix ;)  Can you guess which one (hint . . . it's in the pictures :)

October Sew Sampler Box!!

So I know October has come and gone, but I just wanted to pop in and share my amazing October  Sew Sampler Box :)   Yes, it has been sitting on my sewing table for over a week waiting to be opened, life get's a little crazy sometimes ;)   But it was totally worth the wait!!  It really is such a fun suprise each month when I get to open my Sew Sampler Box!!! And this month's theme of My Happy Place is just perfect, as Utah just went into a State of Emergency and I will be in my Happy Place a whole lot more ;)

First I unboxed these super fun Paintbox Basics by Elizabeth Hartman and oh so happy!!!  You all know I just love sewing with the rainbow ;)  And now I can't decide if I want to make this adorable exclusive La Casita pattern in it's baby size, or pull out my Arctic Layer Cake from 2 years back and combine the two to make a larger size La Casita pattern.   What do you think???  Wouldn't it be fun to pull the warm rainbow and the cool rainbow together!!!!

And next came the notions and I am so excited for these!!!     First up, the Courthouse Steps Foundation paper.   And you know I am just going to include these in to my Foundation Paper pattern I planned back here.  So great!!!  And the Creative Grids Seam Guide Ruler is so awesome!!  I use a Clearly Perfect Angle Cling so I don't have to draw lines, but every time I teach I have people asking if I have this ruler they could use.  Now I can say yes!!!!    And finally, how great are those Scissor ID Clips!!  I am so excited to have thread, fabric, and paper markers from my scissors, and they are just so easy to use as they are magnetic.  Perfect!!!

And last, but not least . . . a new box means a new Block!!   .This year we are working on the Greatest Hits Quilt and this block is Track 7  and I think it is my favorite block so far ;)   I pulled out the blue and green scraps from my stroll quilt and they were just enough (with a little special stitching) to work for this block!!!   And I  finished it, loved it, and realized, I did a solid background instead of a low volume one like I have done for the other blocks.  But I like it so much, I just might leave it anyway, it will add a fun little pop in the quilt I think :)

And just a note, if you are wanting to get in on the new year of Sew Sampler boxes you have to get in line.  There is currently a waiting list as the box subscription is full.   But hopefully the wait isn't to long.  (I have been told new spots open up each week!!!)

And that is the September Sew Sampler Box from Fat Quarter Shop :)  I just love this Subscription Box!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day . . . Let's make this a great week!!!

Stroll Quilt!!

So there was no Fall Market, but quilts still had to be made and I was super excited to get to do a little secret sewing for my good friends at Moda Fabrics ;)   And I was super excited when I saw what quilt I got to make for them!!!!    By now, you have most likely seen Camille's and Bonnie's  new Sunday Stroll fabric and I already got to play with it!!!  How fun is that!!!! Here it is in Camille's new pattern, Stroll.   Isn't that just so cute!!!

I had so much fun making this quilt!!  I just love sampler quilts, they provide so much variety in the piecing and it is just so fun to watch each of the different blocks come together ;)   I will admit, it took a lot longer to cut out, but once it was all cut, the piecing went really fast.   And I just can't get over how cute it is when it all comes together ;)  I can't even decide on my favorite block.  It might be a toss up between the Strawberries and the Hearts . . .  but the Little Flowers are so cute, and the Butterfly . . . see, it is just all so wonderful!!!

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided on an all over Curly Q.  I just love this design for a sampler, it gives such great texture without taking away attention from each of the blocks.    I used 402 Pearl which always blends so nicely, even on the darker red prints ;)   And it is also really quick, which was super good as this was one of those super fast turnaround projects.  I sure love those, it is just so fun to whip it all together  and see it all done :)   And it means pizza for dinner, tee hee hee.

And I just love how this dense quilting design makes for some incredible texture.   Doesn't that just make you want to snuggle right up in this quilt and take a nap ;)   I have to admit, when I took it off the long arm, I thought to myself, how in the world am I going to send this back ;)   But I had to do just that, so Barbara stitched down the binding which luckily didn't take to long as she is super fast and the quilt is 65" x 78" so it goes much faster than a king size!!!

And now, it is making it's way to quilt shops all over the US in a traveling trunk show.   And I just love it and will look forward to it coming back someday ;)    And if you want to make your own Stroll quilt, I noticed that Fat Quarter Shop has a Kit already listed.  The fabric won't be available until March of 2021 but you can add your email to be notified when it is available.   Or, if you can't wait, (I know I couldn't) you can just grab some of your favorite Bonnie and Camille Fat Quarters.  You just need 20 for the pattern and whatever you choose will be super cute!!!

I am so grateful that I got to make this fantastic Stroll quilt and that I didn't have to keep it a secret for to long ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!!
