Fat Eighth Fruit Cake!!!

Today I am excited to share my Fat Eighth Fruit Cake quilt and isn't it just so fun!!    This quilt is a Shortcut Quilt from the Fat Quarter Shop and I absolutely love these patterns.  They go together super fast and always make a spectacular finish!!!    And I am so glad I got to quilt along on this one, because I just love it :)

The original pattern uses Fat Eighths, obviously by the name and it is so great ;)   But I decided to make another Alma Mater quilt and used Kona Red, White, and Black in yardage.  But of course, you could use any 3 Kona Solids.   And the fun thing about the yardage meant that I was able to do an extra step of strip piecing, which sped things up even more ;)   And that is always great!!!   Just FYI, I used 3 Yards of Red, 1 1/2 Yards of White, and 1 1/2 Yards of Black and then 5/8 Yard for binding ;)

And I just love the secondary design created from the alternating white and black blocks.   So pretty!!!  They look like a pretty box flower made from other flowers.   Awesome!!   The quilt finishes at 64" x 75" so it is a wonderful size to cuddle up in :)

When it came time to quilt it, I decided on an all over open center swirl in red.  I tell you what, I just love quilting these Alma Mater quilts in red, I just love the way it stands out on the black and white and then blends away into the background.   I know I just said that the other day, but it is so true ;)

And the fun thing about this quilt is that it has already has a new home.  It actually finished it back in September so it could be raffled off at the Homecoming parade and it raised some amazing funds for scholarships.   And being able to use my love of quilting to help raise funds for students to go to my Alma Mater, well that just brings a huge smile to my face :)  Ya I love SUU, Once a T-Bird, Always a T-Bird!!!

And that is my Fat Eighth Fruit Cake quilt!!!  If you would like to make your own Fat Eighth Fruit Cake quilt you can find the free pattern here and the accompanying You Tube Video right here that walks you through putting it together ;)   And be sure to pop on over to the Jolly Jabber for lots more Fat Eighth Fruit Cake finishes.  They are always more quilting inspiration!!!  You are going to have so much fun making this quilt!!!

Thanks for popping in today :)  I just love having this wonderful little corner of the internet to share my love of quilting with each of you and am so grateful for your visits each and every day!!!

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

BasiX Quilt Finish!

I am so excited to share my BasiX quilt!!!    This has been on my To Do list for so long,a ndn ow I get to cross it off, and it's just such a happy finish which makes crossing it off the list all the more fun!!!   And of course, you know when it is in Red, White, and Black it means it's another Alma Mater  quilt,  yippee!!!

So about the BasiX, You might recall from back here,  that there was a BasiX Ruler in the October Sew Sampler box.   And as I mentioned, I have wanted to make one of these for so long, as soon as I got the ruler out of the box, I knew I wanted to make one and I always need Alma Mater quilts, so I started sewing up strips in Red, White, and Black.   And now, it's all done.   And it really went so fast and was so much fun to make!!!!

I found a few helpful hints while making this quilt, and did a little BasiX Ruler  rundown/tutorial over here.  Just in case you want to make your own, the cutting hints might help you speed things up ;)

My quilt is made of 42 Blocks in alternating black and white stars, which I just love because it makes those cool secondary stars that are black and white in the same star.   It really makes for quite the memorizing design.

When it came time to quilt it, I opted for one of my all time favorite, swirls ;)   Ya just can't go wrong with them.   And I think it really helped to soften all of those angles a bit.    And if you haven't noticed, I just love using Red thread on these Black, White, and Red quilts.  I think I have used red thread on the last 5 ;)   It just pops!!!

And that is my BasiX finish.  It measures 54 1/2" x 63 1/2" so it will be the perfect lap size to cheer on the team.   But of course, it is also a great size for snuggling up in  front of a fire with a good book.   I am just thrilled with how it turned out, and I know I will be making more BasiX quilts in the future.   It was just so fun and fast, and we all know, those are my two favorites!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!!

Linking up this quilt top finish to Sarah's and Myra's ;)

November Sew Sampler Box!!

It's the most wonderful time of the Year!!!   I love the build up to Christmas that starts after Thanksgiving.   It just makes me smile ;)  And I think each month, the most wonderful day of the Month is the day my Sew Sampler box arrives in the mail!!!  I just love finding that little blue box waiting for me ;)  And November's box has me all kinds of giddy.   The theme is County Fair and it is so great!!!!

For starters, I love Vanessa from Lella Botique and I have made a quilt from every one of her lines to date.   So I was thrilled when I found this month's Sew Sampler box  had a Charm Pack of her newest line Garden Variety, as well as the finishing kit for included pattern.   How awesome is that!!!   The pattern is Farm to Garden by Carrie Nelson, and she is another one of my favorite people in this industry!!!  I just love that gal and am so excited for her new Pin Pals book.    And how cute are these little stars, now the only hard part will be deciding if I want to make the Wall Hanging, or turn those adorable stars into little pincushions.  Decisions, Decisions . . . I guess I could always do both ;)

And this month's notions are just so great as well. I love the Cupcake mixes and have found them so helpful in making my Dessert Sampler blocks.   They are great for the tiny piecing, and of course, go right along with the Star pattern above ;)    And I am super excited for the little 2019 Desk Calendar.  I love having one of these on my desk right next to the computer and it even has the blocks from the Threadology Quilt Along on it in happy bright colors!!!  Love it!!!! And of course, you can never have enough Aurifil Thread, and those wooden spools are to cute for words :)

And of course, with a new box, there is a new Barn Block!!!  And this month's block went together super fast, as it was some larger piecing.   Which I have to say, I think they are purposely giving us a break after the more complex month's of blocks.   Those gals at  Fat Quarter Shop are so smart!!!     This makes 8 blocks and I am getting super excited to see how this is going to all come together ;)

And that's my November Sew Sampler Box!!!    Now the big question is, will December's arrive in time to go under the tree, and if it does, will I actually be able to wait to open it ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

At Least I Have Lots of Binding

Earlier last week, I decided it was high time to get going on my "to be quilted" pile.  I had 7 tops and backings waiting to be made into quilts.   So Monday I quilted  BasiX quilt with some wonderful swirls.  Always a great go to quilting all over design ;)

And things were going swimmingly and the machine was already loaded with red thread, so I figured keep things rolling and on Tuesday I quilted my Snowball Quilt.  I did my all over echoed paisley design on this one, and there is a little video tutorial over here for it if you are interested.

And then on Wednesday, I figured why not go for three in a row.  So I loaded this little "leftover" quilt (I promise to share more on the name when I post the quilt ;)  and changed the thread out to my favorite 402 Pearl and quilted some all over Loose Feathers that I learned from Rebecca's tutorial.  And I can't wait to share more on this one ;)

And then we hit the Holiday's and all quilting came to a screeching stop.   But 3 wasn't bad, and come Monday, I figured I should keep riding the quilting title wave and load another quilt.   So I loaded my recent finish that will be my newest pattern release  (hopefully pretty soon) and opted for some custom quilting.   But halfway through the first row, I decided I didn't like a part of the custom quilting so out came the seam ripper.   I should have known then that things were spiraling down.   A while later with quilting ripping done, I pushed forward with renewed determination.   I finished the first row and loved it!!!!    Roll the quilt and onto the second row, when Wham!!!  Super Loud Noise and crunch.   I still don't know exactly what happened, but somehow the needle got loose and got caught in the thread guide and bent it right off the frame.  So ya, talk about a screeching stop!!!

A new part is on order, but until it arrives, my quilting roll will have to be put on pause.   At least I have 3 quilts to bind though while I wait for the part to arrive ;)    And I suppose that isn't to shabby.   And that means new quilt finishes to share soon!!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting (or in my case Binding) day!!!!
