Christmas in Suburbia - A Quick Quilts Quilt!!!

I have been so excited to share this finish and it is just perfect for this month!!  This is Christmas in Suburbia.  I have had this design in my mind for so long, it is just thrilling to see it in real life.   It's a modern take on Suburbia, (just like the Salt Lake suburbs I grew up in ;)  and I just love the idea of doing in in Christmas!!!

And the great thing is, it is so super fun and fast to make.   So you could still totally make one in time for Christmas!!!   All you need is a Layer Cake  of your favorite Christmas fabrics, and away you go.   A few stitch and flip corners later and a bit of straight piecing, and you are done :)   And it finishes at 53" x 68 1/2" so it is a great size to snuggle up with in front of the fireplace with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book ;)    The pattern for this quilt can be found in this month's edition of Fons and Porter's Quilting Quickly.

And I just love the stylized shots that the magazine takes.  Doesn't that just make you want to jump in to that picture and snuggle up!!!

For this quilt, I used Overnight Delivery by Sweetwater for Moda Fabrics. My all time favorite Christmas line was Countdown to Christmas by Sweetwater so when I saw that they were bringing back that same feel and color scheme for Overnight Delivery and adding some fun buffalo checks, I knew it was the perfect line for this quilt!!!    And it really is, I think the splashes of black and text just adds to that whole suburbia feel ;)

When it came time to quilt it, I wanted to have is snowing in the suburbs, so I quilted a fun wavy line for a breeze and then added some snowflakes in it so it gives the feel of a wintry flurry.  I just love how it turned out, and the black buffalo check on the binding was the perfect way to finish the quilt :)

So that's Christmas in Suburbia.  And I hope you just love it as much as I do ;)   And if you make your own Christmas in Suburbia I would love to see it.  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com, post it to social media with #happyquiltingwithmc  or or add it to my flickr group here ;)  I can't wait to see your Christmas in Subrubia Quilts!!!

Have a Happy Quilting Weekend.

So have you been following along with the Moda Bake Shop's Countdown to Christmas quilt along??  Each day they release a new Christmas inspired quilt block and instructions for making it :)   I had the wonderful pleasure of getting to make a block for this awesome quilt along and mine is called Jolly St. Nick.    And isn't it just so fun!!!

This block is really easy to make so you can whip it together in no time.   I have already seen it made into a cute mug rug, and I think my blocks are going into a pillow ;)    The instructions are for both a 12" and a 6" block.   And I know I say it all the time, but I just love tiny piecing!!!  How cute is that 6" block next to the 12" block!!!   To fun ;)

So be sure to pop on over and check out this Jolly St. Nick block :)

Jolly Bar Meringue!!!!

Today I am excited to share my Jolly Bar Meringue quilt and I have to say right off the bat, I just love it!!    This quilt is a Shortcut Quilt from the Fat Quarter Shop and you all now how much I love these patterns.  (I just shared another one last week ;)  As always, this was fast and oh so much fun!!!  All you need are some Jolly Bars (5 x 10 precut ) and a Perfect Rectangle Ruler and away you go!!!

The original pattern is actually for an adorable baby size quilt, But I decided I wanted to make something a littler larger.  So I used Two Sweet Marion Jolly Bars and then cut 2 1/2 yards of  Gris Grunge yardage to make my 72 "solid" Jolly bars ;)     And I just love how awesome the Grunge looks with Sweet Marion!!!  So instead of the baby size, I made 72 blocks in an 8 x 9 layout which made for a 64" x 72" quilt, so it's perfect for snuggling with ;)

And you can probably tell, I changed the layout a bit as well from the original ;)   I just loved the look of these "lightning" streaks going down the quilt.  It seemed to fit this more modern fabric pairing.   That is the great thing about basic blocks like this, there are an endless amount of layout options and they all look so great!!!

When it came time to quilt it, I decided on an all over loose feather.   This design is really becoming a go to favorite of mine!!!  I learned how to do it from Rebeeca's little tutorial over here, and it is just so fun and fast, and gives a beautiful flowing look to any quilt.  It makes such a wonderful contrast to all of the sharp angles in this quilt ;)

And this is another quilt that has already found a new home.  I finished this up a few weeks ago, and last week had the wonderful opportunity to gift it to a family friend's son who just got married!!!  I just love being able to share these quilts especially at weddings. I just love getting to give quilty hugs as gifts, it truly makes me so Happy Quilting!!!

And that is my Jolly Bar Meringue quilt!!!  If you would like to make your own Jolly Bar Meringue quilt you can find the free pattern here and the accompanying You Tube Video right here that walks you through putting it together ;)   And be sure to pop on over to the Jolly Jabber for lots more Jolly Bar Meringue finishes.  It's always fun to see how many ways you can put together the same design.

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this fun finish with me :)   I just like to think that we are all wrapping the world in one quilty hug at a time!!!   So wonderful!!!

I hope you all had a very Happy Quilting Weekend and have a wonderfully Happy Quilting Day!!

Flowering Snowball Quilt

Today I am so excited to share my newest finish, a Flowering Snowball Quilt!!!   This quilt has been on my list to make for about as long as I have been making that list and I am just so thrilled to finally get to cross it off the list!!!

And up, it is in classic Black, Red, and White again ;)   You will have to forgive me, I know that this is the third quilt in that color combination that I have shared in the last few weeks, quilt 1 being here, and quilt 2 behind here.   I was on a mission to finish up a secret sewing plan before Christmas this year with these, and I am thrilled to say, this rounds out that plan ;)  So we will be back to our usual variation of color now ;)    But honestly, you can't ever go wrong with Black, Red, and White right ;)  It is so striking!!!

The reason this quilt has been on my to make list for so long was because I knew the cutting was going to be tedious.   So when I got my new AccuQuilt  GO! Fabric Cutter  a few weeks ago that I shared about back here  the   Flowering Snowball die   was the first die I wanted to play with.  And it was so much fun, so easy, and so accurate!!!   And I have to say, having those little notches made lining up the curves to sew a breeze. I shared over here about the 3 pin method I use to sew curves, and I had these blocks together in no time.

And you better believe, I have lots more Flowering Snowball quilts starting to percolate in my brain.  It really was so easy and fast, and I just love the finished look of this design.   The circles in the red are my favorite part, they just pop!!!

When it came time to quilt mine, I choose to quilt an all over echoed paisley design.  This is one of the first things I learned to quilt and is still an all time favorite.   I did a little Video Tutorial over here of how I quilt this, just in case you want to check it out.     And I know I said it in the other quilt posts as well, but I just love the red quilting on these!!!  It just pops on the white and black and really ties the color scheme together.  So fun!!!

And that is my Flowering Snowball Quilt!!!  It measures 56" x 68" so it is a great lap size to cuddle up with.   It's going to have a little applique added to it this afternoon and then it will be all ready for giving ;)   Which of course, is another reason why I want to make some more, with at least one to stay at home for me to snuggle with, tee hee hee ;)

Thanks so much for popping in today and every day!!!  I am so very grateful to get to share my love of quilting with you all in my little corner of the internet.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

Linking this finish up to Amanda's, (which is her final linky, we will miss you Amanda!!!) Sarah's, and Myra's :)
