Pat Sloan's Teach Me to Machine Quilt Blog Hop!!!

Today I am super excited to share with you a new book from my good friend, Pat Sloan!!!  Can you believe, this is her 33rd book, just WOW!!!  Pat is truly amazing!!  Her creativity knows no bounds and she is such an amazing teacher.   I have been so impressed with her new "Teach Me To" series and absolutely love this third book in the series,  Teach Me to Machine Quilt!!

Pat's book is such a fantastic tool for all those wanting to learn how to machine quilt their own quilts :)  She walks through each and every aspect of getting ready to machine quilt, including basics on thread, batting and  basting with lots of wonderful tidbits thrown in.  Pat then shares everything you need to know to Machine Quilt with your Walking Foot, or Free Motion Machine quilting.   This content is the first 50 pages of the book and it is all filled with easy to follow process pictures as well.

The remainder of the book is filled with wonderful Projects so you can practice both your Walking Foot Quilting as well as your Free Motion Machine Quilting.  And of course, Pat's projects are just so much fun!!!

My particular favorite was this Mini Charm Star wall hanging, isn't it just so cute!!!!   And you know, I can always use another little wall hanging for the quilt room ;)

So out came my stash of purple solids, and oh my goodness, I just can't say how much I love this purple-icious Mini Charm Star ;)   It was such a fun little project to whip up!!

One of the Machine Quilting Walking Foot techniques Pat teaches in the book is how to quilt a giant spiral.  This has been a favorite of mine for some time and always a great way to quilt up a small project.

And of course, now I want to make an entire quilt of these with each star being a different color of the rainbow.  I just can't seem to make enough happy rainbow quilts ;)  But I suppose if I do it scrappy then I can chalk it up to another great stash buster!!

And that's a little sampling of  Pat's wonderful book, Teach Me to Machine Quilt:)  It really is just perfect for teaching Machine Quilting.   And before I sign off for the day, you can't have a blog hop without a giveaway, right ;)   Pat is giving away 5 copies of her new book and you can enter to win by popping on over to Pat's Blog Here :)

And be sure to pop in and visit the other stops on today's Mega Fun Book Tour:

Star Value Quilt Finish!!!

So over Market, we were asked to share on Longest Work In Progress for the missing market # game.   And I have to say, I was a little blown away when I found that my Longest Work In Progress was from May of 2013 and was just sitting,  already basted with pins, waiting to be quilted.   Well, that was just what I needed to motivate a finish, and am super happy to be able to share my finished Star Value quilt today!!!!

This was a bee quilt, and the lovely ladies of the Beejeebers group from 2013 each made a block.  Aren't they just so happy and colorful!!!

I actually made a Star Value Block Tutorial way back in 2013 as well.   It has 5 different block size options and is super easy to follow.   You can find the Star Value Block Tutorial right here  and a printable version here.      It is such a fantastic scrap buster!!!   (and it works perfect as leaders and enders as well :)

So lets go back a minute to why this was my Longest Work in Progress.   What was the hold up on finishing this quilt??  You see, I had finished the quilt top and basted it with safety pins all ready to go.  But that was right about the time when we got the long arm and I was trying to learn the basics of quilting on it.  And ya, you don't baste with pins on a long arm.  I had always planned to still quilt this on my domestic machine, just to keep up practice with that.  Well, that little missing market party made me realize that it just wasn't happening.  So I loaded it on the long arm and removed the basting pins as I quilted along.  Easy fix :)    I opted for some favorite basic swirls in varying sizes.  I just love quilting swirls!!!

Then I went to my binding basket ;)  I keep all of my leftover bits from other bindings in a basket.  They are just perfect to make scrappy bindings for super happy scrappy quilts.  I just sewed bits together until I had a binding that was long enough, and it was already pressed and ready to go.  Yippee!!    And I just love the scrappy rainbow goodness that just matches the quilt perfectly ;)

And finished.  Yippee!!  My oldest Work in Progress is now complete and I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out ;)  In fact, I think I might just need to be making another one to bust some more scraps.   So fun!!!  And again, if you want to make one as well, you can find the Star Value Block Tutorial right here and a printable version here :)  Just decide on how many blocks you want and get your scrap busting on ;)

Thanks for popping in today and each day!!!!  I just love having this amazing space to share my creative journey with each of you.

Have a Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

P.S.  You might have noticed . . . we got our first snow of the season :)

Wednesday WIP - Time to Quilt!!!

It's Works in Progress Wednesday, and I have to say, it super motivated me to finish up some quilt tops to share today.   Remember that Plume Quilt top from the other week that was actually a new Work In Progress, well it didn't stick around in the Work in Progress pile for long.   Here's the finished quilt top ;)

Oh my goodness, this was a fun quilt top to make up.  It went so fast and I just love the contrasting color play.   So fun!!!   I don't even think this one will last long in the "to be quilted" pile because I so want to finish it up.   But I told myself it has to come after a few of those quilt tops that are actual Works in Progress ;)

Like my Crossroads Quilt Along Quilt Top that I finally finished adding the borders to!!   And my, oh my, I don't know why I procrastinated those borders (like since August)  for so long, okay, maybe it had something to do with all of those tiny half square triangles ;)   But oh my, don't the borders just set of all of that lovely patchwork so perfectly!!!

EEEkkk, I am so excited to have finished this quilt top!!!  Now I just need to decide how I want to quilt it up.   That is some tiny patchwork and I really want it to shine ;)  Any ideas???

Because I don't plan to let these sit in the "to be quilted" pile for long ;)    My goal is to quilt these, along with a few other finished quilt tops (ie Summer Solstice, Fall Table Runners, and maybe even my Star Surround, which sadly got forgotten about in a closet) by the end of the year ;)   Alright, it is written down, now you can hold me to it!

So . . . What are you working on this Wednesday??

100 Blocks - Volume 14!!!

I am so excited!!!  It's time for another 100 Blocks Blog Hop!!!  Volume 14 of 100 Blocks Magazine is hitting new stands everywhere and I am so very honored to have a block in it!!  The block is called Circle Squared and it is block #1368.  And oh my goodness, it is so much fun to put together!!

I just love 100 Blocks magazine!!!  They are such a fantastic source of  creative goodness!!  This is the 9th time I have had a block in 100 Blocks and I never cease to be amazed but all of the incredible blocks ;)  And I had to squeal a little when the magazine arrived in the mail and I found my name on the cover!!!  What an honor ;)

I made the original block in Grunge Basics for Moda.  You all know how I just love Grunge!!! And how cool does it look in a full quilt layout.  I just love the fantastic geometric goodness of this block.    Ya, I have added it to my list to make.

But now my only problem is, I don't know what version to make.  I started playing around with the colors and how fun would it be to make it in a two color version.   It just adds such a cool 3-d effect to it, especially in the grays and blacks.

And then I thought, I need to do some more scrap busting as my scrap drawers continue to overflow.  So maybe a little low volume sashing added and then some super fun ombre scrappy blocks.   Eeekk, I think I might just have to make this rainbow play version.

What ever version I decide on, it's going to be so much fun!!!   It really is just a super fun block to put together and whips up pretty fast.   I hope you want to make up your own version as well, and if you do, be sure and share it with me.  Maybe it will help me decide which version to make ;)

And that's all of the Circle Squared Block . . . But don't go away yet!!  One lucky Happy Quilting reader will be getting the all the amazing block patterns in their own copy of Volume 14 of Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks!!!!
