Diamond Dash - Fast & Fun Lap Quilts

It's Week 3 of my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts Book Tour and today I am sharing a second version of the Diamond Dash quilt! It's always fun to see how different a quilt can look by changing things up the fabrics.

For this version of Diamond Dash, I decided on a monochromatic theme.  My goal with this version was to show how fun it can be to choose one color in all it's hues along with white, and make a stunning statement quilt.   And I even used a Chambray in Denim for the background.  I love all of the added texture it gives to the quilt, and it really makes it feel like a great picnic quilt as it has a little more weight to it ;)

This version of Diamond Dash was made using Nantucket Summer fabrics by Camille for Moda Fabrics.  All the quilts in Fast and Fun Lap Quilts are made with 1 Layer Cake/10" Stacker and a background fabric.  Nantucket Summer was the perfect print for an monochromatic look as it has so many different shades of blue..  I just love how it turned out!  And of course, the scrappy binding is the perfect finish.   The quilt finishes at 64 1/2" x 64 1/2".

Since I custom quilted all the quilts in the Fast & Fun Lap Quilts  I thought it would be fun to do all over designs for these second versions.   For this Diamond Dash quilt, I quilted all over loose feathers.   This design is perfect for this quilt as it really plays nice in the negative space.   And the funny thing is, I quilted this the day after getting back from the quilting cruise, and let me tell you, when your body still feels like it is on a ship and you try to long arm, you are rocking and rolling all over the place :)

And that is another Diamond Dash quilt, the third lap quilt in my new Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book !  You can find the Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book in your local or online quilt shops,  C&T Publishing, or if you would like a personalized signed copy, you can order from my Etsy shop.  And if you make your own Keystone Corner quilt, I would love to see it!!  You can share your quilts with me on social media using hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and #fastandfunlapquilts and tag me @happyquiltingmc or you can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.

Thanks so much for popping in for another Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book day of fun.    And if you haven't had a chance to enter Amy's Fast & Fun Lap Quilts Giveaway for some beautiful Blue Jean fabric that you can use to make your own monochromatic Diamond Dash Quilt, be sure and pop on over and enter.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!

Sugar Pop N Change Quilt - With a Free PDF Pattern!!

Just a quick reminder - Everything in my ETSY Shop (including my new Fast & Fun Lap Quilts Book)  is 25% off , just in case you missed it with all the hustle and bustle of the Holiday Weekend :)

And with that . . .

Let's get to today's post. I am thrilled to be sharing this brand new Sugar Pop N Change quilt as well as a Free PDF Pattern for it!!! This quilt features the With A Flourish by Simple Simon and Company and is 2 1/2" Strip friendly, so you can grab a Rolie Polie/Jelly Roll and get stitching!!! .

Sugar Pop N' Change was one of the first tutorials I ever made, and it has always been a super popular one. I have been thinking of remaking it for some time, and when I saw With A Flourish, I knew it would be the perfect fabric line for this coin stacking quilt. I just love the happy vibrant colors, and the prints are just so great, from the delicate florals, to the awesome geometric and lines, it just makes for a stunning quilt!!!

The Sugar Pop N Change quilt is made with super basic piecing. You just make a stack of "coins" and then sash them. It goes together super fast and makes for a super fun geometric pattern that has lots of movement thanks to the rotation of the blocks. I just loved whipping it up :) And I actually made this quilt in a larger size than the original, and added lots and lots of size options in the Sugar Pop N Change PDF so you can make from a Baby Size to a King Size.

This quilt is such a fun way to show off so many pretty prints. And I loved that there was only 1 print that had a green background, that made it easy to pull it out and use it as the binding. It is the perfect way to finish it all up. And of course, the Riley White background just makes all of those happy colors pop. Where the "background" in this quilt is made of pretty skinny strips, I recommend using a solid or a basic that reads as one color, that way it really stands out against all those prints.

And as I mentioned, there is also a free PDF Download of this pattern and I included 6 size options, without any quilt math. The quilt I showed is the Lap size, and I have also made the baby size, and have plans to make a Picnic Size next :) To get the FREE PDF Sugar Pop N Change Pattern Download, just click here and download it ;)

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Materials-Needed-1024x332.jpg

And when it came time to quilt mine, I wanted to keep that floral vine feel, so I quilted all over loose feathers. This is such a fun design to quilt, and I love that it is not quite as dense so it will make it a great lap size quilt to snuggle up in ;) Sometimes it is just fun to keep it a little softer. And I used good ol' 402 Pearl So Fine for the perfect blending in white and the prints :)

And that is my Sugar Pop N Change quilt!! I hope you have enjoyed this post. Oh, and if you make your own Sugar Pop N Change quilt, I would love to it!!! you can share your quilts in any size with me on social media using hashtags #happyquiltingwithmc and #rileyblakedesigns and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Sugar Pop N Change quilts!!!

Thank you so much for popping in and sharing this quilt with me :)

I hope you all have a Happy Quilting Day!!!

Sweet Blend - HQM Quilt 22

It is Week 22 of the Happy Quilting Marathon and it isn't Saturday, yippee for not waiting to the last minute!!! And this quilt was a long time coming, I actually started it back in 2019, finished the top in February, and am just now quilting it.   So without further ado, here is Sweet Blend!!

And not only was I waiting to finish this Sweet Blend quilt, my daughter was waiting for it to grace her bed.  I started this quilt when we painted her room over Spring Break 2019 so that she would have a more tween look ;)  Kami picked the pink background (Kona Primrose)  and I loved that it won't show the daily wear as much as a white background ;)   I am just so happy it is all done and she gets to enjoy it now.  She has been so patiently waiting, and I am just thrilled with how it all came together!!

I used Amy Elli's Wanderlust Fabric.  Both Kami and I love the bold colors and prints in the line, and it worked perfect for this Sweet Blend pattern as there were an equal number of "low volume" prints as bright prints.  So great!!! I added a little more to the pattern to finish the stars in the center row, and then needed a sashing on the top and bottom so it would be bed sized.  So my quilt finishes at 72" x 90".

And Kami's favorite quilting motif is Loose Feathers, so of course, that is what I quilted in the background for her ;)   I did arches in the diamonds that make up all the stars and it just came out so pretty!!!  And I love Kami was nearly jumping up and down with excitement while I was quilting it ;)

And talk about yummy texture!!!   It is just going to be so perfect for her bedroom.  It really makes it look more Tween room now, and that of course makes my Tween very happy in deed :)   So next week, I need to finish her sister's quilt that I  started on the same Spring Break back in 2019 because now that one has their new quilt, I don't think I can put the other one off very long.  Good thing this Marathon will provide the extra motivation to quilt it up!!!

And that is Quilt #22 - All the Trimmings ;)  22 Down and only 4 more quilts to go in the Happy Quilting Marathon :)   Ready to make Josie just as happy next week :)

And that is it for today, thanks for popping in to share this finish with me!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

Sew Sampler Barn Quilt Finish!!!

Each year, as part of the Sew Sampler Box, you recieve a monthly block pattern for a Sampler quilt.   The first year of Sew Sampler was some fun HST blocks, that I finished up back here, and the second year was Basket Blocks, that I finished up here.    And this year we have been making Barn Blocks, one new pattern a month.   Last month marked the 12th block and it has been my goal to get the blocks finished in a quilt before next month's new 2019 Sampler quilt is announced.   And I am thrilled to say, My Sew Sampler Barn Quilt is finished and here it is!!!!

I have had so much fun over the last year making these Barn Blocks each month.   The piecing of each Barn Blocks had so much variety, and often included a lot of tiny piecing, which you all know I love ;)  It was fun to watch the pile of Barn Blocks grow and wonder how it was all going to come together.   And when Fat Quarter Shop shared the finishing pattern with the tiny star cornerstones, I was over the moon!!!  Aren't they just the perfect way to finish this quilt up ;)

And the fun part, this quilt is all from my scrap drawers!!!!   Yup, 100% scrappy quilt, which just makes me smile from ear to ear.  The Whites are all solids, but lots of different shades of white (and none of them look yellow, that is just the lighting ;)  The crazy thing is, you sure can't tell by looking at my black and grey scrap drawers, I barely made a dent.    Ah well, looks like I will be able to make another black, white, and grey quilt soon, which is so great because I found I really love this color scheme!!!  It is not one that I would have thought to use, but I love how sleek and ultra modern it turned out ;)

When it came time to quilt it, I decided on a current favorite on an all over  Loose Feathers design.   I just love how it flows across the quilt.  I also used a favorite thread, 402 So Fine Pearl, which blended perfectly with all that white, and even blended in with the black prints as most of them have a little white on them.   And it pops so great on the cornerstone black stars!!!  I just love it!!!

And you can't tell from the picture, but this is also a Scrappy Binding!!!!  I dug through my little case of binding scraps and was able to find enough solid black leftover pieces to make an entire black binding.   Ya, I make a lot of solid black bindings :)  So yippee for using up all the scraps!!!

And that is my Sew Sampler Barn quilt and I just love, love, love it!!!!  Mine finishes at 52" x 68" so it will make a great lap quilt, just perfect for a wedding present.    I can't wait for the next wedding that is held out at a local barn in town.   Wouldn't this just make the perfect gift for a couple who has their reception at a barn!!!   It makes me just giggle to think about it ;)

And now, I can't wait to see what the new 2019 pattern will be for the Sew Sampler Box!!!  2018 is officially all wrapped up now, and I am just waiting (not patiently) by the mailbox to see what 2019 will bring.   So excited!!!

Linking up this finish to  Sarah's, and Myra's ;)

Moda Love Quilt Finish x 2!!!

So clear back in March, I shared that I was joining in the Moda Love Sew Along and making two Moda Love Quilts.    I actually had these quilted and bound at the beginning of May, and they have just been sitting waiting for me to take pictures of them.   Why is life so crazy after school gets out?? (and yes, I know the answer to that, I just am constantly blown away by it ;)   So without further ado, here are my Moda Love Quilt finishes!!!

Ever since the Moda Love Pattern was first released I wanted to make one and I am so glad I made not one but 2!!!  This pattern is so much fun to make.   I think it will quickly become one of those "go to" patterns when you need a quilt fast.   This size is made with a  Layer Cake and it finishes at 72" square.   Perfect for those quick wedding or graduation gifts ;)

I made the first quilt Red, White, and Black so that I can donate it to my Alma Mater's :)   I have to say, I am so glad SUU's colors are Red, White, and Black.  It makes it so much easier to make lots of quilts in that classic color scheme!!     This quilt used fabrics from  Shades of Black by Me and My Sister Designs from 2013 (yes, It had been stashed for a little bit :)  as well as pieces from Authentic Ect. by Sweetwater .

And the second quilt essentially came to be because I had a few Green Squares, Solid White Squares,  and Grey Squares left over from those two lines.  You only need 1 Layer Cake per quilt, and I basically used half of each of the two lines to keep the color scheme.   I didn't want those leftovers to end up in the scrap buckets so 2 Moda Love Quilts it is.    And I just love it!!!!

When it came time to quilt them, I decided on all over  Loose Feathers for the first Moda Love.   This is really becoming a favorite design to quilt and I can't believe how I was so nervous to try it.   It is just so fun and relaxing to quilt.  Just goes to show, practice, practice, practice!    I used a red thread and I love how it just pops on that white star!!  So fun :)

And for the second Moda Love quilt, I played with some wavy lines.   Which means I got some exercise in because you are basically walking back and forth across the long arm for each line of stitching.   I used 4 colors of thread, grey, white, black, and lime green and alternated them in the rows.  I love the way it adds so much movement and depth to the quilt.

And those are my Moda Love x 2 quilts!!!  I really did have so much fun making these quilts and am happy that both will be given away super soon ;)   And I know this little  Moda Love Pattern will be pulled out again in the future.   It is such a fun and fast design and I just love it!!!

And if you want to try out the Moda Love Pattern and join in the Sew Along, you can download it for free right here.    The Pattern has 3 sets of instructions.   So you can make a big 72" square one like me using Layer Cakes, or make a 32" quilt using Charm Packs, or even a cute little mini finishing at 12" using Mini Charm Packs.   I want to make a Charm Pack one next, because we all know I have tons of those stacked up and all it needs is a border to be a perfect size for a new little baby :)

Thanks for popping in today and each and every day.   I am so very grateful that I have this little corner of the internet to share my love of quilting and all of you amazing friends to come along for the ride!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

Crossing Paths - New Happy Quilting Pattern!!!

I am super excited to share another new pattern and quilts today!!!   Here is Crossing Paths!!! This is another one that I taught at Garden of Quilts two weeks ago, and it was so great to watch everyone's blocks come together.  I can tell, this is going to be such a fun class to teach for the next little bit :)

The  Crossing Paths Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special for it's release with PDF Patterns at $5.50 and the Paper Patterns are $7.00!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Crossing Paths is such a fun quilt to make!  If you didn't notice, a lot of this quilt "floats" so there are only a few spots where you actually have to watch your points lining up, making it great for beginners, and experts will also have fun with it as well!!     The quilt is made with No Waste Flying Geese, Stitch and Flip Corners, Square in a Square Units, and basic piecing so it really comes together quick.  The cornerstones set the blocks off perfectly and make some fun secondary patterns as well ;)

This version of  Crossing Paths is made with Nutmeg by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics! I just love these beautiful Fall colors and seasonal prints, and now this is finished just in time to welcome Fall!!!  And of course, the sky is the limit on which fabrics you make it from, it was so fun to see everyone's fabric choices for Garden of Quilts!!!  The quilt is Fat Quarter Friendly, so you can Grab a Bundle and get cutting!!!

I quilted this version of  Crossing Paths with something a little new.  I did my favorite loose feathers design, but rather then just doing them "all over" I did them in back and forth lines.   I think it turned out so cute, almost looks like ivy growing across the quilt!!   I just love it and will be quilting this design again for sure ;)

And after I got the big Queen/King quilted . . . I just couldn't help but make a Baby size  Crossing Paths !!!   I used low volume fat quarters from Songbook a New Page  and set them off on the beautiful Eggplant solid.   Isn't that just so fun, and a great way to use up some more Low Volumes!!!

I quilted the baby size in an all over wavy crosshatch design.  It was a little crazy to figure out at first how to sew these long diagonal lines on the longarm, but I am super happy with how it turned out.   It just adds so much texture!!!

And if you are like me, and want to make multiple sizes, you can find the sizes that work just right for you!!!  The pattern has 5 size options :  Baby, Lap, Twin, Picnic, and Queen/King.  So now you can make all the sizes :)

And that is my new  Crossing Paths quilts and Pattern!!!  And yes, my Happy Quilting Patterns have a new look, but they are still filled with full color - wonderful illustrations to guide you along each step of the way.   You are going to have so much fun making these quilts ;)  And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)

Wishes in Sophie!!

So last week I was having a wonderful chat with my good friend Kim, who also owns our local quilt shop, Stitching It Up.   In the course of the conversation, we got to talking about new fabric and how she just had a whole bunch of lines come in and was swamped with how many samples she needed to make.  And of course, I wanted to help her out so I offered to make up a sample for her, I mean, who doesn't want to play with new fabric ;)   And a week later . . . tada . . . a new Queen Size version of my Wishes Pattern in Sophie  ;)

Can I just say how thrilled I was when I found out Kim needed a quilt in the new Sophie Fabric Line by Brenda Riddle for Moda Fabrics!!!   I just love the soft delicate prints and the colors had me transported back to my childhood of playing with my Strawberry Shortcake dolls.   Aren't they just so great!!!  I just love how it turned out.

And I am just thrilled with how well my Wishes Pattern showcases Sophie.   They really were a great match.      I especially love the cornerstone stars in the bright red, they just pop!!!  And I also love how they create a secondary chain design around the block, just so fun :)  And the other great thing about Wishes is there are very few seams that need to be lined up, which is great when you are making a queen size quilt in a week.      This queen size version needs 16 Fat Quarters, a pop fabric, and some background to make it and it really goes together fast ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I wanted to add to that summer flower garden feel so I decided on an al over loose feathers.  I just love how it makes it look like leafy vines are crossing over the entire quilt.   I just love all the motion it adds and how it just flows.   Oh,  And it also has the added benefit of being a quick one to quilt as well, speed was for sure important on this one ;)   So fun!!!

I am just so happy with how this quilt turned out!!  And it is already hanging in Kim's Shop, so fun!!!  And I am looking forward to when this Wishes Quilt makes it's way home.    Wouldn't this just make the cutest summer wedding gift ;)

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this new finish with me.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!
