Teaching in 2015

I am so excited for some fun opportunities to teach at the beginning of 2015.

I start out in the first week of January teaching at Quilt St. George!!   I will be teaching 3 classes on January 7th including my Back to Basics, Trade Winds, and Salutations patterns!!!   I can't wait, it is going to be so much fun!!  So if you want some beautiful sunshine in the middle of winter,, be sure to check out this retreat in beautiful St. George Utah. It is going to be a blast!!!

Then, just a few weeks later at the end of January, I get to teach in my home town of Cedar City, Utah at the Cedar Chest Quilter's Guild Retreat!!  This will be my 4th year teaching at this retreat and I just love it more and more each year.  It is so fun to get to see so many people that come back year after year and then meet new friends there for the first time ;)  I will be teaching Petal Pop and Wonky Irish Chain at this retreat and my classes are almost full, so you gotta move fast for this one ;)

And then in March, I will be heading out to Glendale California to teach at the Glendale Quilt Guild's 36th Annual Quilt Show and Retreat!!!  And can I just say I am so honored to come out and be one of their guest teachers!!   I will be teaching In Your Neighborhood and Wonky Irish Chain on March 14th and I am just so excited!!!   It is always fun to get to see a new show but to have a small part in it as well is just so incredible.  I can't wait!!!

Teaching is one of my all time favorite parts of this whole quilting community.  I just love to share my passion with others and see them get excited to discover new things.   It really doesn't get much better than that.   So if you are in the area for any of these or looking for a good place to visit, I would love to see ya there ;)

Blocks, Blocks, Blocks

First week in November and my bee blocks are done!!   Yippee ;)  I always feel better about my month when I stay on top of these and I love being able to cross them off of my sewing "to do" list each month.  It's just fun to have some little to do's that go fast ;)  And, they always have the benefit of trying new things, some that have been on my list for a long while ;)

For Beejeebers Bee, Cathy asked us to make a Charming Star block from this Moda Bake Shop tutorial and a coordinating 9 patch block.    I love the colors she asked us to use, and always have fun raiding my scrap bins :)

Then for the Bees Knee's group  Sinta sent us some of her saved  Heather Bailey prints and asked us to make a block using Little Miss Shabby's Tiled Blooms Pattern.  (Which is free at her blog)  I love applique, and especially adorable petal applique.  This one was so fun and so fast ;)

And then I had an "extra" Bee Block this month.  These Anna Maria Horner Feather Blocks are for a group of Individual MQG members who are making a Charity Quilt Con quilt :)   I am so glad the MQG found a way for us Individual members to participate in this as well.   I have wanted to make these Feather blocks forever, and I was so happy to cross them off the bucked list.   Because, while I enjoyed making 2 of them,  I don't know if I ever would want to make a whole quilt ;)   Another fun bonus of bee blocks ;)

So now I just need to send them off in the mail and then it is time to do a little quilting ;)  I have another secret quilt loaded on the long arm and am ready to quilt the day away ;)

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

Old Dutch - Optical Illusions Blog Hop

So last week in my Fall Market recap post I shared some fun photos of Angela Walters and I presenting the schoolhouse for a great new book, Optical Illusions.  Today, I get to share the quilt that I made for the book, and here it is!!!  I named it Old Dutch :)

I was so excited when the folks from My Stars asked if I wanted to contribute a quilt to their new Optical Illusions book. This book is full of amazing designs that really make you look twice.  They are all so fun!!!

I love designing quilts and when I started thinking of optical illusions I was reminded of the illusion of windmills moving forward as well as around that I saw on one of our family trips.   Old Dutch is my version of that illusion and I just love the way it turned out.  The windmills really do seem to move out of the quilt ;)

When it came time to quilt this, I decided to do a large spiral moving out from the center.  I really think it added to the overall movement I was trying to create in the illusion.   I always think it is fun to quilt this design, and made a giant swirl video tutorial of how I quilt this design, just in case you want to try it out ;)

I am so excited to finally get to share Old Dutch with you and hope you like it as much as I do ;)

I have two wonderful friends guest blogging about Old Dutch and Optical Illusions today as well.   So please be sure to pop on over and check out Daniar from Fat Quarter Shop and Lynne from Lily Quilts posts as well  (and they have giveaways too!!)

And of course, there is a giveaway here too!!!   I used an Oakshott Cotton Italy Bundle to create Old Dutch and Oakshott Cottons has graciously provided a brand new Autumn Oakshott Bundle for one lucky reader!!!

To be entered to win this gorgeous bundle, simply leave a comment at the end of this post telling me what your favorite thing about Autumn is.

One entry per person please.  International Entries are welcome.   Giveaway will end at 8 am Monday morning  (November 10th) and I will announce a winner shortly after.

And be sure to follow along with the rest of the blog hop!!!  There are lots of amazing quilts that will be shared over the coming days and inspiration galore ;)  And of course, there will be lots of prizes along the way :)
