Raspberry Sorbet in Quilts from Quiltmakers 100 Blocks

It is always a fun day when I get to reveal a  secret sewing finish from a while back!!  And so let's get right to it.  This is Raspberry Sorbet and oh, I just love it's yummy pink and red solid goodness!!!

Raspberry Sorbet is featured in Quilts from Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Fall 2016 edition that just hit newsstands last week!!!   I am just thrilled to have my quilt among so many other amazing quilts from wonderful folks around the industry.  So fun!!!

Raspberry Sorbet uses my Boxed It All Up block from Volume 13  of Quiltmakers 100 blocks.   But Raspberry Sorbet is in done in a different size, adds a sashing, and obviously, it uses solids to create a fun all over ombre effect.

And don't you just love that ombre effect!!!  Oh so fun!!!   I used Bella Solids in Christmas Red, Strawberry, Country Red, Raspberry (where the name came from) and Burgundy along with a Bella Solid Bleached White for the Background and Black for the Binding.   I just love how that crisp white background just adds to the color gradient popping off the quilt!!

And I can never get enough of wonderful geometric goodness.  This block creates a fantastic secondary design which makes you sort of lose where the actual block is as it blends right in.  I love that in quilts ;)

When it came time for quilting I decided on an all over Echoed Paisley.  I love adding lots of curves in quilting to a super geometric quilt, it just complements it so nicely ;)   And I have a video tutorial on this particular quilting design right here if you want to try your hand at it ;)

And that is Raspberry Sorbet!!!!   It measures 66" x 79" so it's just perfect for a twin size bed or to use as a large lap quilt to snuggle up in.   And I just have to say, I just love how they  style pictures for magazines, always makes me smile ;)

And that's it for today ;)   Thank you so much for popping in and sharing this secret sewing reveal with me ;)  I still have to pinch myself some days that I get to share my love of quilting with so many amazing people each day!!

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

Linking up this finish to Amanda's and Sarah's ;)

Picket Fences Quilt from the Jolly Bar Book!!!

I love making baby quilts so when Fat Quarter Shop asked me if I wanted to check out their new The Jolly Bar Book full of 20 Jolly Bar patterns mostly all baby sized, I was all over it!!! And I totally fell in love with the Picket Fences Quilt pattern.   Isn't it just so fun!!!

A Jolly Bar is a 5"x 10" precut exclusive to Fat Quarter Shop.   And The Jolly Bar Book is full of 20 wonderful fun and fast quilts you can whip up.  It really is one of those great "go to" resources for quick and cute quilt designs.  And how brilliant is it that they made the book  the same size as the pre-cut.  So cute!!!

I went with a  The Treehouse Club Jolly Bar by Sweetwater for Moda.   I love that it is essentially gender neutral so I can add this quilt to my "handmade baby gifts" pile and have it ready for a special new arrival, whether it be a boy or a girl.

And it just is so cute in the quilt!!  Don't you just love the wonderful back and forth movement of the design.  And I love that the Jolly Bar size really allows you to show off the prints in the line.

When it came time to quilt it, I did a little custom quilting of some of my favorites.  Swirls in the Jolly Bar's and Wavy Arches echoed in the squares.   I love how it really makes the design stand out all the more and adds a little curvy goodness to all of those nice crisp lines in the piecing.

And of course, it also adds to its super snuggly nature.  Nothing adds to a quilts cuteness as a newborn snuggled up in it ;)

And that is my Picket Fences quilt from the new Jolly Bar Book!!!  I just love it and can't wait to see what sweet little baby it will be for.

And ya, you might recall from the other day, that I had so much fun piecing the first quilt, that I moved right into a second one, so you will be seeing another Jolly Bar Book quilt in the near future, just as soon as I get it quilted and bound (my quilting kind of day didn't go quite as planned ;)

But you can still see lots more Jolly Bar Book quilts today.  Be sure to pop around and check out all of the fun Jolly Bar Book quilts made by some of my amazing blogger friends ;)

Summer Breeze Quilt

Note - Just in case you are wondering, Terrific Tuesday Giveaway Day is coming, it will just be posted a little later today :)

I am super excited to get to share a new quilt finish today!!!   A little while ago I was asked but my friends at Fat Quarter Shop if I wanted to try out one of their new patterns.  And of course, I fell in love with it the second I saw it.  How could you not, I mean, how fun is this new Summer Breeze Quilt!!!!

The second I saw this quilt design, I knew I wanted to use my Grand Canal Fat Quarter Bundle that I picked up at Sample Spree during Quilt Market.   I just love Kate's gorgeous colors and prints and they are just stunning in this fantastic design!!

And what a fun pattern it was to make up!!!  I had so much fun with all of the angles and points, and playing with triangles.  I realized while making this quilt that I don't piece near enough with triangles, they just give you so many possibilities and I  really enjoyed seeing the design come together.

To make the triangles we used a Kaleidoscope Ruler and you cut them out of strip piecing so that really speeds things up.  Then once your blocks are sewn together, you use an 8 1/2" square ruler to trim them up.   And do you notice that new mat I am cutting them on, EEEkkk!!!!  I have seen Kimberly from Fat Quarter Shop use this Matilda's Own Rotating Cutting Mat in so many of her videos and decided it would be the perfect Birthday Present last month.    I love it!!!!!   Oh my goodness, it just makes trimming so much fun!!!

And even though the quilt looks a little difficult, it really comes together quite easily when broken down.  And of course, Kimberly made it even easier with a fantastic You Tube tutorial that walks you through each step of making the quilt.

When it came time to quilt my own Summer Breeze quilt I decided on an all over Feathered Swirl.   I love how the soft curves in the quilting really complement all of the wonderful angels in the design.   This is one of the designs I have published in 180 Doodle Quilting Designs book and is really a favorite of mine ;)

And that is my Summer Breeze Quilt!!!   This is going to be a special gift for a special friend, and I can't wait to give it to her.  I just love being able to wrap people in quilty hugs ;)

Thanks for popping in today and be sure to pop on over to Fat Quarter Shop so you can see all about the  Summer Breeze quilt and be sure to check out all of these other bloggers beautiful Summer Breeze quilts!!!   Lots of  quilty eye candy ;)

September 1st - Piecing Top and Grand Prize Linky  (Today)
September 15th- Summer Solstice Parade and Grand Prize Winners

Here we are coming to the end, but  first off for this week, we need to pick a winner for the Building Block Assignment.   And great job to everyone on making their blocks!!!!  I know, that is a whole lot of Pinning, Sewing, and Pressing!!!  Your blocks all look so fantastic and it is just so fun to see them all come together ;)

The Building Block assignment winner who gets a  Just a Speck Jelly Roll from Olie and Evie is . .  .

#12 - What KT Made!! - Congrats :)

And here we go!!!  Its time to finish up our Quilt Tops!!!  (And hopefully, get them quilted up :)  So very exciting, it's our

LAST ASSIGNMENT - PIECING PROJECT TOP!!!

Now that your blocks are all made you can piecing your quilt top together!!!    So fun right ;)

So as you can tell from the picture above, it is a little difficult to get these huge blocks in a picture and once I tried adding the sashing in the picture it just got worse.   Ya, apparently it would help if the ceiling in my sewing room was vaulted ;)  So  I am going to use digital pictures from here on out to make it a little easier to work with each layout and so you can see all parts of the instructions.   Start by laying your blocks out in your chosen layout.  Mine is 3 x 3.  Play with the placement of the blocks until you get a color layout that is pleasing to the eye.

MAKING SASHING STRIPS

When you have a layout you like you are ready to add the sashing.  Now you don't have to add the sashing if you don't want to. As you can see from above, it creates a  whole new design  without sashing that is pretty fun.  It's your quilt, you make it as you like ;)

So now that you have your blocks laid out where you like them, we need to prepare your sashing strips.   Sew all of your sashing strips end to end and then sub-cut them into the following strips for your project.

A few little notes on the Sashing Strips.

Depending on your size project, you might not have to sew all of your strips together and then sub-cut them.   For instance, If you are doing the 40" block, you don't need to sew your your strips together and then sub-cut the short sashings at 40 1/2", just cut your 42" strips to 40 1/2" ;)   Or, if you are doing the 20" block, subcut half of the strip to the 20 1/2" short strips first, an then sew the remaining strips together to subcut your Long Sasings.   The rest of them are just as fast to sew all of the strips together and then sub-cut as listed above.

And  If you really don't want any seams in your short sashings, you can always sub-cut them from your strips first, and then sew all of the leftover pieces together for the long sashings, that just means you will a few more seams in your long sashings and none in your short sashings.  Its your choice on where you want your seams to end up ;)

On my Long Sashing Strips  -  I  like to cut mine about 1" longer so I have a little wiggle room.  Then I just trim off the excess after I have sewn it.   Or, many people like to wait to cut their long sashing strips until they have sewn the rows together and then measure the row and cut according to the actual measurement.

It really is hard to try and go over every way you can cut your sashings for each different size option, so if you have any questions don't hesitate to email me ;)    So with your sashings cut, we are ready to start sewing!!!

ONE BLOCK LAYOUT

Let's address one block layouts first.  If you are doing a 1 Block Layout and you want to add the sashing it is just like adding a border.  Layout the sashing strips as shown with the short strips on the sides and the long strips along the top and bottom.  Place the short sashing strips onto the sides of the block with right sides together.  Pin and Sew the short strips onto the side using a 1/4" seam.  Press towards the sashing.  Place the long sashing strips onto the top and bottom of the block with right sides together.  Pin and Sew the long strips onto the top and bottom using a 1/4" seam.  Press towards the sashing.  And your 1 Block Project Top is Complete!!!

MULITPLE BLOCK LAYOUT

Now, if you are doing any other layout, your sashing is a little different.  I will show the examples for a 3 x 3 layout but it is the same process if you are doing the 2 x 2 layout or the 4 x 4 layout.  Place your short sashing strips at the beginning of each row, at the end of each row, and in between each block in every row.

Now, you are ready to sew the Sashing Strips and Blocks into rows.   To do this, I like to first sew the sashing strips to the sides of the blocks.  So place the short sashing strips onto the sides of the blocks with right sides together.  Pin and sew the short sashing strips onto the blocks using a 1/4" seam.  Press towards the sashing strips.

And now, you can sew the Sashed Blocks into your rows.  Place the second block in each row onto the first with right sides together.  Pin and sew the blocks together using a 1/4" seam.  Continue adding one block at a time until the row is complete.  Always use a 1/4" seam and press towards the sashing.

And now with your rows made, you are ready to add the long sashing to finish your quilt top.   This is just like making the rows, only on a larger scale ;)   Place the long sashing strips  at the top of your project, the bottom of your project, and in between each row of your project.

And once again, we will start by sewing the sashing strips to the rows.  Place the long sashing strips onto the rows with right sides together.  Pin and sew the sashing strip onto the row using a 1/4" seam allowance.  Press towards the sashings strips.

Almost done,   Place the second block in each row onto the first with right sides together.  Pin and sew the rows together using a 1/4" seam.  When you are pinning, take care to align your sashing strips in each row so that your columns don't look askew.  Continue adding one row at a time using a 1/4" seam allowance and pressing towards the sashing until the quilt top is complete.

And now, you can just sit back and enjoy your beautiful Summer Solstice Quilt Top!!!

And while your enjoying,  don't forget to add your beautiful  Summer Solstice Quilt Top to the Happy Quilting Quilt-A-Long Flickr group and to post it on social media using #summersolsticequiltalong.  I am so excited to see all of your beauitful Summer Soslstice Quilt Tops!!!
