Garden of Quilts!!!

Sadly, there will no longer be quilt classes at the Garden of Quilts so I won't be able to teach there this year.   Of course I am sad ( I was really looking forward to it),  but  I totally get it as the venues want to keep their amazing quilters safe.  But, I am excited to say that even though there won't be classes, the Garden of Quilts is still going to go on!!!

The venue will be open September 18th and 19th and you can  reserve a ticket with a scheduled admittance time to be able to walk through and see all of the beautiful quilts hanging in the amazing Ashton Gardens!!!   And there will be socially distanced vendor's so that is super fun as well.

It is only $20.00 a ticket and it is going to be just amazing.   Acres and Acres of beautiful quilts hanging in beautiful gardens.   So if you are going to be in Utah, it is in Lehi , just outside of Salt Lake.  Just remember to bring your mask as those are required at the vendors and when inside buildings ;)

And I am doubly thrilled to say that I will have some of my quilts hanging in the Garden.  I was thrilled to find that all 5 of the quilts I submitted were chosen to hang this year.  What an honor!! So if you are there, look for my quilts, I can't wait to see where they will be hanging ;)   These are the quilts there. . .

Isn't that just so fun!!!   I am just thrilled to still get to be a small part of the Garden of Quilts!!!  And I am just so glad that they can still hold this amazing event. ;)  It is going to be a wonderful day of wandering while being filled with all of the quilty goodness!!!!

Thanks for popping in today and each and every day!!!

I hope you each have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Planning a New Leader/Ender Project!!!

I woke up this morning and decided I needed to start a new Leader and Ender project.  I finished up my Scraptastic Stars blocks that were my Leaders and Enders last year, and haven't had a new project for almost a year.  I have just been sewing Leaders and Enders from whatever project I was working on at the time.  So I starting pulling from my sewing room trying to come up with an idea.   And this is what I ended up with . . . what do you think???

So let me tell you how I arrived at this quilt :)   First off, my scrap bins are totally overflowing.  I through about using pre-cuts as I have a stash of those as well, but as soon as I saw how I have been having to stuff my scraps in just to get the drawers shut, I knew this new project had to be a scrappy one!!!   And as soon as I think scrappy, I start thinking rainbow quilts as that is how I sort my scraps ;)

So with the fabric picked, next up was picking blocks.  I was thinking simple squares, or a chain, when I noticed these Quilt Block Foundation papers from It's Sew Emma.   And they made me think of how I really need to practice some basic paper piecing as I am really not great at paper piecing.   I have been wanting to work on it for some time but didn't want to pick out a totally overwhelming project, as a lot of paper piecing quilts are ;)    So now with he blocks picked, I just needed to make a design ;)

And so I played around in my EQ8 for a little bit and after some trial and error with 6" and 12" blocks, I settled on this layout.   And I just love it!!!  Of course, my blocks are going to be totally scrappy!!  And I think I also may change out the print and white placement on some of the blocks to add even more variety.   I am excited to get started on this ;)

I think I will have to do a little prep work of cutting some strips so this will work as a Leader and Ender project but I am excited to get going.   I am going to be Scrap Busting, while gaining Paper Piecing Confidence, and also having a new Leader and Ender project, triple bonus!!!  Can't wait to get stitching!!!

Sewcialites Quilt Along - I'm In!!!!

Did you see Fat Quarter Shop's announcement of their newest free Quilt Along starting next month???  It is called Sewcialites and the idea is that we can all sew together even if we can't all be together.  Love it!!!   There are 18 designers that have come together to design 36 blocks in a super cute sampler.

Isn't this just the cutest!!!  I love all of those fun blocks.   And Fat Quarter Shop is sharing each of the blocks in 3", 6", or 9" so you can choose what size you want to make.  My plan is to do the 9" blocks so I can have a good picnic size quilt when I am done.

I debated for a bit about joining this quilt along because I have so many WIP at the moment  . . . but then I realized, I really need to work on a stash buster.   And that was all the rationalization I needed ;)   I can barely close my blue drawer of scraps at the moment.  It is literally overflowing and I have to keep just shoving it all in there.   And it was like everything came together . . . why not an all blue sampler!!!!!

I think it is going to be amazing!!!  Now, I just have to decide on my layout.  You know I always have to change things around a bit ;)   I really like the layout of the sampler blocks but needed a bit more symmetry on the Half Square Triangle Setting blocks.   But know I can't decide which I like best.   So what do you think??

Option 1 with the Diamond Layout

Option 2 with a the Corner Pyramids and a few Solid Squares

Option 3 with the Corner Pyramids and Setting Corner Triangles

I can't wait to get going on these sampler blocks!!!!   I just love a good scrappy project!!!   The fun starts on September 25th with a new block each Friday until June 25th :)  You can read all about the announcement of the Quilt Along here, See the Landing Page here, and join the Facebook group here ;)   It is going to be so much fun!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

More Mask Making

Last night was spent making more Masks, only this time, I was teaching the amazing Young Women in my church how to make their own masks.   School is a few weeks out and they all need masks.   It was fun to see the different personalities come though in their picks of fabric.  A lot just wanted simple black, (it goes with everything!!!)  but some also picked some fun and funky ones :)

They all did such an amazing job!!!  For quite a few, this was their first introduction to a sewing machine and they really did great :)   The other young ladies got introduced to a sewing machine when I taught them how to make Charming Totes a few years back ;)    I just love that this allows me to pass sewing on to a new generation.    Thank heavens there are so many of us that know how to sew right now, I can't even begin to imagine how many homemade masks have been sewn in the last few months by all of you amazing sewers!!!

Oh, and just in case you missed it, I added the link for this pattern on my Monday post, and will also share it here.   Link to the PDF Templates.   I have found this to be an awesome pattern for fit.   I just used 4 of the Part A Pattern and don't do the fitter pocket.  And I love using old T-shirt 1" strips that have been stretched and made into loops for the ears, it is so much softer than elastic.  And today, My plan is to make some masks for me ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
