Did you see Fat Quarter Shop's announcement of their newest free Quilt Along starting next month??? It is called Sewcialites and the idea is that we can all sew together even if we can't all be together. Love it!!! There are 18 designers that have come together to design 36 blocks in a super cute sampler.
Isn't this just the cutest!!! I love all of those fun blocks. And
Fat Quarter Shop is sharing each of the blocks in 3", 6", or 9" so you can
choose what size you want to make. My plan is to do the 9" blocks so I can have a good picnic size quilt when I am done.
I debated for a bit about joining this quilt along because I have so many WIP at the moment . . . but then I realized, I really need to work on a stash buster. And that was all the rationalization I needed ;) I can barely close my blue drawer of scraps at the moment. It is literally overflowing and I have to keep just shoving it all in there. And it was like everything came together . . . why not an all blue sampler!!!!!
I think it is going to be amazing!!! Now, I just have to decide on my layout. You know I always have to change things around a bit ;) I really like the layout of the sampler blocks but needed a bit more symmetry on the Half Square Triangle Setting blocks. But know I can't decide which I like best. So what do you think??
Option 1 with the Diamond Layout
Option 2 with a the Corner Pyramids and a few Solid Squares
Option 3 with the Corner Pyramids and Setting Corner Triangles
I can't wait to get going on these sampler blocks!!!! I just love a good scrappy project!!! The fun starts on September 25th with a new block each Friday until June 25th :) You can read all about the announcement of the Quilt Along here, See the Landing Page here, and join the Facebook group here ;) It is going to be so much fun!!!
I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!
Like you, I have plenty of projects. I enjoy the variety that a sampler quilt provides. I like your 1st and 2nd alternative finish; they both do a good job of pulling the blocks together. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you are offering a different layout! That's the one thing I didn't really care for in this project. I love all three of your layouts but I think the first is my favorite - the diamond is calming! And do I need another project? Not really!! :) But I love that each block is one color and that you are making from your scraps. May have to join in!
ReplyDeleteJanet said everything i was thinking about this QAL. I really like your first layout so much better.
DeleteI'm still debating whether or not to join in. I like the idea of using it as a stash buster and making it scrappy. Fortunately, I have a month to think about it. ;) I like your alternate layouts, especially number 1. If I do participate, I'll play with layouts in EQ, since I'm not crazy about the one as designed.
ReplyDeleteI like option 3. I don’t think I will be joining. Too many works in progress that I want to get done.
ReplyDeleteI like 2 or 3 the best. The floating diamond appeals to my eye.
ReplyDeleteI like your option 1 layout best-I like how the center is "framed" by the darker colors
ReplyDeleteI admit that I am not a fan of #3. I like #1 and #2; but, I am leaning towards #1. Final! #1. (I think I am done talking to myself...)
ReplyDeleteI wasn't going to participate in the sew-a-long because I didn't care for the layout. I love option 1 and I have now decided to participate. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI love your layouts, I think option 1 is my favorite! I’m definitely joining, I love the idea of sewing together too, and seeing everyone’s creative ideas :)
ReplyDeleteI like option 1 and 2. Thank you! I just love your modifications and creativity.
ReplyDeleteI really love option 3!
ReplyDeleteI really like option #1 -0- but I am very symetrical
ReplyDeleteoption 2 :-)
ReplyDeleteI came over to your site from Pat Sloans. Love your patterns. I too have a gazillion projects going on, but I would like to do this sampler project. I like your 1st lay out best.
ReplyDeleteAll three are great layouts, Melissa. My preference would be the diamond design of options one. Good luck with choosing!
ReplyDeleteYes, Yes, Yes!
ReplyDeleteYes, Yes, Yes!
ReplyDeleteWhichever you do, I’m doing also!!
ReplyDeleteI love option 1! That’s what I will do.
ReplyDeleteSo - new to quilting. To my untrained eye it looks like you flipped the HSTs to create the diamond? Really like all three options, BTW. Thanks for sharing. Helps me feel more free about playing with the final layout.
ReplyDeleteLove them all but especially option 1.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is joining in with pink and brown scraps. I am joining too. I really like option #1. I need symmetry too. Thanks for the optional layouts.
ReplyDeleteWill you let us know if the Fabric requirements are different when yoI decide, and the block size? Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteLike all the alternatives. I am considering doing the project and would use one of your suggestions for the layout. Thanks for the ideas!
ReplyDeleteI, too, like the alternative layouts. Wish there were coloring sheets for each, or am I missing something?
ReplyDeleteI love option 1. Thank you so much for sharing your options with us!
ReplyDeleteI love your settings! I was already planning on rotating my HST setting blocks to do a diamond but now that I see your other options I'm going to consider those. Nicely done! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing an alternative. I really did not like the orignal layout. I like 1 and 3 layout the best. Will you be offering directions?
ReplyDeletelove option 3. it speaks to me. may also play with a medallion style once my blocks are completed before settling on a layout. thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI love option I have never done a quilt before I really want to complete this quilt cause my birthday is the 30th June. This will be the best birthday present I could give myself.
