A Big Change at Home!!

So next week we will begin remodeling our Kitchen, Dining Room, Living Room, and all the flooring in the upstairs.   Wow . . . Huge Change and I am so excited!!!   This is something we have wanted to do since moving in and the time is finally right.    But with this awesome, wonderful change, means a few "adjustments" in the interim.   You all know I just love, love, love my sewing room, and I know I am so blessed to have a space entirely dedicated to quilting :)

Well, this weekend I had to "move" my space.   This is what it looks like now.   (and side note, I was blown away by how much lint and dust was behind my desk, yuck)   We are lucky that this room had a stove top and sink in it from the previous owners, and so it only made sense for it to become a temporary Kitchen for our family while our regular kitchen is gutted and rebuilt.   And even though it was hard to "move" out of my favorite space, I know it will be a huge blessing to not have to dishes in the bathtub, I have heard many a crazy remodeling tale :)

So this is my temporary sewing space ;)  There is no way I could just pack it all away, so I am in the back of the family room for the time being.  It is going to be a whole lot louder, and a little crowded once we move the living room furniture down here as well, but it will work ;)   I am just glad to still be able to sew and work on projects, even if it is only in little bits between the craziness that will be remodeling.

So if things are a little slower around here over the next few weeks you will know why ;)

Which had me wondering, would you like to see what is being done in our remodel?  I could share some before, progress shots,  and after's if you are interested :)

And for those that have lived through remodeling . . . any advice or tips??   We are all ears ;)

And that's all for today :)   Be back tomorrow with our Terrific Tuesday Giveaway Day . . . and it has some changes as well, so you are going to want to be sure and check it out!!!!

  2. I would love to see the remodeling process :-) It's always fun to see. We redid flooring in our house about 3-4 years ago (can't believe it was that long ago!) We had to pack up most everything and store it in the garage for about 6 weeks...while we stilled lived here with 3 dogs and 2 cats :-0 It was a bit challenging to say the least. We huddled in the corner of the house out of the way and switched to another corner when they needed that one. Our installers were great and very hard working but it took longer than anticipated. I can say it was worth it though. Hang in there!

  3. Oops. Wanted to edit.

YES! Would love to see process photos. We've remodeled an entire old bad cabin ourselves including hubby milling all the cabinetry, baseboards and door/window trim). In the kitchen, I wanted the lower "sink wall" first. This gave a place to wash dishes and a little counter for food prep. Get an induction cooking plate and you'll be good to go. Each day when the workers leave you can get ready for dinner and breakfast.

So glad you have a sewing corner. It will be your therapy and a remodel will certainly test your mental health ;-)

  5. Would love to see your remodelling experience and the end project. Good luck, it's crazy whilst it's being done but will be so worth it in the end. My advice, make sure you keep sewing since it is your happy place. It kept me sane when we remodelled.

  6. I would love to see photos of the process, before and afters, etc.

When we had work done on our house, I took a daily picture after the workers had left, trying to stand in the same places each day. It's a good way to see the progress.

  7. I would love to see photos! My husband and I remodeled our kitchen last summer and did all the work ourselves. When we cooked it was on a hot plate, or crock pot and hand washed dishes in the bathroom sink. I would suggest preparing freezer meals if you have some you like. That way dinner is easy. If I did it again we would use paper plates and plastic silverware to cut back on the hand washing. Good luck! All the inconvenience and hard work will be worth it when you're done!

  8. I always love to see remodels. I know what you mean about the dust. I have terrible allergies, and no matter what I do. it's everywhere.

  9. wow! That was alot of moving things around: my back doesn't envy you!! And as far as remodeling, ouch!! We had our floors re-done abt a year ago (tile was pulled up), and I would say PACK EVERYTHING AWAY that isn't crucial to living!!! I dusted the night after the tile was stripped out, and covered the furniture with sheets, but all the stuff on the bookshelves, tv stand, etc was coated with fine dust every night. Just strip the rooms bare and store in boxes. It seems like alot of work, but worth it in the end. You will have to move everything and dust after it is all over, so may as well box it up and keep things clean. Good luck with the process, and when it is done I'm sure you will be happy with it! Hugs, H

  10. I would love to see pictures of before and after. I know the ending will be good, the path will be bumpy.
I am glad you are planning and preparing for the change. It will be worth it in the end. Now, just a lot more cozy time with the family.

  11. My advice is to make your decisions and stick to them second guessing and making late changes costs you in, time, Labour & product. Make sure all your “stuff” is there when your builders need it again delays cost you money. I’ve done 12 remodeling jobs nd this is the two biggest lessons I learned. Try to have 30 minutes to yourself each day to unwind and think about your next step.

  13. I'll vote along with rest and say I like a good before,(during) and after! We moved our kitchen, and it was nice to having a working one while the project was going on. There are a few small changes I would make, but overall I LOVE my new kitchen!

  14. Freezer meals and crock pot liners! They really help with the clean up when things aren't "normal". My family didn't want to eat out every night and a home cooked meal helped with reducing the emotional chaos. We remodeled our kitchen a few years back and it is totally worth the effort. You'll love it!

  15. I agree with Helen. The dust and dirt will be far worse than you would ever think. The other advice is watch and take pictures of the work in progress. Also, make sure you have a level and double check their work. I had a contractor once that I had to follow them around with my level and constantly make sure door frames, etc. were plum and level. One more thing, make sure the electrician is licensed; you don't want to know what happened to me! LOL!!!
