Stacks of Blocks!!

At the beginning of the year, I shared some saved bundles that I was cutting up for two class projects at the Quilty Friends Retreat.   Well, I am happy to say that they didn't just get set aside after class :)  I have been working on these bit by bit in between other projects and the other day finished the blocks for both quilts!!!

The first set of blocks is for the Flower Market class.  I used the blacks and pinks from   Olive's Flower Market Bundle by Lella Boutique .  I am just so excited with how these blocks came together.  I love the colors and think it is going to be the cutest quilt!!!  I can't wait to get it all sashed :)

The second set of blocks is for the Midnight Crossing class.   This is a design by Fig Tree Quilts and Co.  and it is a Halloween quilt, but I opted for Christmas, using Merry Stars Here bundle by Sweetwater.    And I totally upsized the blocks from the pattern so that this will finish at a queen size quilt.   I just love all of those happy stars . . . another one to get sewn into a quilt top fast!!!

And speaking of sewing into a quilt top . . . I also have my stacks of Greatest Hits blocks from the 2020 Sew Sampler Box that need to be sewn into a quilt top as well.  I am not sure how I plan to sash this one yet, but as soon as I decide, it is going to be sewn up to.

So ya, three stacks of blocks, all just waiting to be sewing up into quilt tops ;)   Oh, well, I guess I should be totally candid and say I have two others sets of blocks that are done and just waiting to be put into quilt tops, but those two other sets have been waiting for over a year.   So ya, we don't bring them up :)   Here's to not letting these 3 add to the "someday" pile :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting day, and who knows, maybe you can even break out some of your Someday projects and make a little dent in them :)

Garden of Quilts - 2021!!!

Garden of Quilts 2021 is a Go!!!   I am just thrilled to share that this amazing event is moving forward and I can't wait for September :)    This is just the thing to look forward to when we will all be getting back to "normal" ;)   And I would just love for you to join me and all of the amazing teachers, presenters, and most importantly, quilts!!!

The first Garden of Quilts was held in September 2019 to celebrate Riley Blake's 10th Anniversary!!!  The event was a huge hit.   And last year, even thought the classes, cancels, and trunk shows had to be cancelled due to Covid-19, the Garden was still filled with quilts for all to come and visit!!!  I had 5 quilts hanging in the Garden and I was so happy to be a part of it, even if I couldn't go and teach :)

But now, I am just thrilled that Garden of Quilts 2021 is moving forward and the Registration opens today!!!  It will once again be held at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi Utah  on September 15th - 18th, 2021.  There will be lots and lots of classes to choose from, as well as lectures, trunk shows, vendors, and of course, all of them amazing quilts in the outdoors!!!    I can't wait to see them all blowing in the breeze ;)  And you can be part of the Garden of Quilts show and submit a quilt for display . . . see all the details for submission here.

And I am super thrilled this year to not only be teaching classes but to be doing a Trunk Show as well!!!  I will be sharing my Charming Baby Quilts Trunk Show on Friday at 12:00 PM in the garden. All of the trunk shows for the day are included in your Admission ticket.   I am just so excited to share all of these quilts, including all of the remix's, in such a fun and amazing venue :)

And right after the Trunk Show, I get to teach!!!   I will be teaching 3 classes at Garden of Quilts 2021!!!  Nordic Nights will be taught on Friday afternoon,  and then Desert Rose on Saturday Morning and finally,  Decades Past on Saturday afternoon.   I am so looking forward to all 3 classes and hope to see you in them ;)    They are going to be so much fun!!

And even if you are not from the Utah area, this event is so worth the trip!!!  It really is a rock star line up of teachers (which I am so honored to be a part of!!) as well as an incredible venue of over 55 gorgeous acres hosting an amazing line up of quilts all in the wild.

You can see all of the details at the Main Garden of Quilts page .   I am so looking forward to this and hope to see you there!!!!  Won't it just be so great to get to sew together again :)

And don't they just look awesome in a row!!!  I just love how big these blocks are and they just pop in the Happy Days Fabric by Sherri and Chelsi.  And I am still totally loving the Grey Background, especially in the center of the blocks :)  So great!!!

So are you joining in with the Serendipity fun???   You can download the block pattern right here and it is requested for each pattern you download to donate $5.00  to the Make a Wish Foundation :)  And I am super excited to say that even though it has just started,  Fat Quarter Shop's annual charity QAL has already made the goal of  $50,000!!!  So now it is being extended to grant 10  wishes.   So amazing!!!

Improv Table Runner

We spent last week in Salt Lake visiting my family for Spring Break.  It was so wonderful to be able to gather together and enjoy each other company, especially my sister who traveled down from Washington State.  I also loved getting to gift my twin sister this Improv Table Runner.

When I shared the Guiding Stars Quilt I made for my friends at Moda, my sister called me right up to tell me how much she loved it, especially the panels in the quilt.   I knew at this point I would be seeing her in a month, and I had a few panels left over from the quilt so I thought, why not make her a special surprise :)

I used the leftover scraps from my Guiding Stars Quilt to do some improv piecing around the panels.  I tried not to plan this ahead, and just stitch as I go and see where it lead me.   That is a harder way for me to piece, but I really liked the random nature of the borders that it created.  Of course, you can't help but create something beautiful with these Songbook Fabrics!

When it came time to quilt it, I decided on an all over curly q, but I added a little hoop on the end of each curl.   I really like it!!   And I decided to use double batting so that it would be extra puffy, and that made it super soft as well :)

And I had one extra panel square, and this one just happens to be my sister's favorite, so I put it in the backing.   I think the backing is just as pretty as the front :)   I love it when that happens!!

And now, it is happily found a home on my sister's dining room table :)   And she just loves it!!!   This was such a fun and fast project.  I really should do more improv piecing with my scraps.  It really is quite rewarding to just start sewing and see what comes from it.    Songbook Fabrics will be available in May, so not to much longer to wait ;)   And if you love the panels as much as I (and my sister do) you can have an email sent to you when the Guiding Stars Quilt Kit is available.    And you will even have a few extra panels if you want to make a table runner as well :)

Oh, and for fun, I thought I would share . . . Since all of my family was gathered together, we took family pictures!!!

The Whole Powell Family!!

The Grandkids :)

My Parents and Siblings!!

This is the last time we might all be together for a long time as teenagers are getting older and will be moving out for missions/college/marriage in the next few years.   So these family picture are a treasure for sure ;)  My little sister took the pictures and is going to be editing them over the next few weeks, but sent us these initial photo's.   I can't wait to get the finals and hang them on my wall :)

The Love of Family is One of Life's Greatest Blessings!!!!
