Jessica's Charming Tote

We spent this weekend up at Bob and Barbara's (My amazing in-laws) cabin.   Before we headed up, Jessica mentioned that she would like to make a Charming Tote for her to use at church.  Of course, I was more than happy to help her whip one up ;)  If you haven't made one yet, you can pop over here for the free step by step tutorial to whip one up yourself ;)  All you need is a Charm Pack and 2/3 Yard of a coordinating print.  But fair warning, you can't make just one ;)

And we had so much fun making this!!!   I just love sewing up the mountain, it is so peaceful and relaxing ;)   Jessica did all of the stitching, and she asked me to do ironing for her so she could just sit and chain stitch without stopping.  Ya, that made this mom's heart happy!!!    The best part of making the whole tote though was watching Jessica try and choose a  Charm Pack  from my Stash.  She just liked so many, she had to give a ranking system to each to finally decide on  Twilight by 1 Canoe 2 for Moda Fabrics :)

And it make the prettiest tote!!!   Jessica asked if I could quilt it for her as she loves my quilted swirls and in her words "I can't make it look near as pretty as you mom".  So I gave in and quilted it for her only after she promised she would quilt up her finished Stack and Whack quilt top from forever ago ;)   And obviously, she loves it :)

I just love sewing with my kids!!  It truly is a joy to get to pass on my love of quilting to them.   And signing along to tunes at the top of our lungs while stitching away with my girl is a true favorite.

So do you have someone special you want to make a Charming Tote with??  Pop over here for the free step by step tutorial

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting (and Charming) Day!!!

Starting some New Projects

I just love starting new projects!!!  I mean, how can it not be fun to contemplate all of your fabric options and pick that fabric that you know will be just perfect for the project :)   And I know it might be a little crazy, but I really do love the cutting part of a project.  There is just something so soothing about the sound of a rotary cutter going through stacks of fabric.  And I just love seeing the piles of  squares and rectangles grow!!

Yesterday, I cut up some of Sherri and Chelsi's Seashore Drive.   This is a line that isn't coming out for a while, but I was doing some secret sewing with it and had a good amount of leftovers and didn't want to bury them in the scrap bins.   So I was looking at it just contemplating what to make with it when I remembered the Sprouts Quilt pattern from my Sew Sampler box a while back.  I sew wanted to make this quilt, but decided when it arrived to add the Chantilly prints to my Dessert Sampler (that is turning into a really, really long term project ;)

Perfect combination for a new project!!   I drafted the pattern up in EQ8 as I wanted to upsize the blocks to maximize the amount of fabric that I had left and leave no scrap unused ;)   And I had lots of the low volume prints left as they were not used in the secret sewing project, so I decided on an all low volume background.  So excited to get stitching on this one!!  It is going to be so great :)

And this week, I also had the opportunity open up to start on a new Shortcut Quilt for Fat Quarter Shop that I will be sharing in the future.   It is a Jelly Roll friendly quilt and I knew right away that I wanted to use my  Folktale Junior Jelly Roll.  I just love the gorgeous fall feel of these prints and I think with the adorable Dear Stella hearts this is going to make the cutest baby quilt ;)

And since I knew that I could whip up a baby shortcut quilt in no time, I figured this was also another great opportunity to make another SUU Alma Mater quilt.   I just love working in red, black, and white!!    And I had these two Zen Chic Modern Background mini jelly rolls just waiting for an SUU quilt.  (I donate these to be raffled off at homecoming and fundraising events and the proceeds go to scholarships ;)    I am going to pair it with scrappy red strips and some solid black for the pop fabric.   I just love scrappy quilts, and scrappy SUU quilts, all the better ;)

So today will be another cutting day to get going on those 2 jelly roll projects.  But first, I need to empty my scrap basket :)   I was given this gorgeous rope bowl basket at the Zion Piecemakers Guild and I just love it!!  I knew right away it would be perfect for keeping my scraps while I waited to get them put away in my scrap drawers by color, which was way better than the throwing them in a pile on the floor in front of the scrap bins method I had used before :)  Well, it didn't take me long to fill it up.  I promised myself that once it was full, I would put it all away, so that is the plan and then I will start filling it again with the red scraps from above :)

So what is your plan today??  Are you starting something new, working on a WIP, or finishing something up??

What ever you are working on, I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!

Garden of Quilts 2021!!!

So after teaching two days in Layton, Barbara and I headed down the I-15 to beautiful Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah for the Garden of Quilts!!!   This was my first year teaching at Garden of Quilts and can I just say, It was incredible!!!!   Something about Gardens and Quilting put together just made for such an amazing few days full of beauty and wonder :)   I loved every minute of it, and we were certainly hoping for every minute of it as well.   So crazy busy, but oh so much fun!!!

Thursday night I started off my Garden of Quilts Adventure with the Meet the Makers Night!!  I didn't get any pictures as I was busy signing and selling, but Riley Blake shared this image that gives you a little bit of an idea of just how crazy fun this event was!!   I got to meet so many quilters and oh, it was just such a wonderful evening.   It was followed with a Trunk Show by the Doan Ladies of Missouri Star Quilt Company and it was just incredible.  Amazing how you can Oohhh,  Aahhh, Laugh and Cry all in an hour :)

And then the next morning, it was time for my Charming Baby Quilts Trunk Show!!!   And a huge thank you to my good friend Robin for getting a few shots of me ;)    There is nothing quite as enjoyable as getting to share my love of quilting with so many amazing quilters that share my passion.   I shared all of the Charming Baby Quilts as well as the Charming Baby Quilt Sampler shown here and the Charming Baby Quilt Remix's (details on all here)

Oh, and side note, if you have never been to one of my trunk shows, I talk fast when I am talking about quilts.  I get so excited I can't help myself,  I had to stop and remind myself to breath :)   But I have to say, again, something about being outside in the Gardens made this Trunk Show just extra special.   I was under a big tent and it was just amazing to feel the breeze and see all of the quilts blowing in the distance.  It was a great show and an amazing audience!!!

Right after the Trunk Show, it was time for my first class and I taught my Nordic Nights pattern ;)  This was a big class, (as you can see) but everyone did such a great job.   They tackled those curves and were just thrilled with their finishes!!!  And I just loved hearing "oh, that wasn't as hard as I thought it was going to be".   So great!!!

And here is a closer look at each of their blocks.  Isn't it just amazing how they all look so different!!  I love that some are happy and bright while others are moody and subdued.   And again, Gotta love those dark backgrounds!!!   This was such a fun class and I am just so grateful to get to know all of these amazing quilters :)  We had a wonderful 3 hours together stitching all the curves!!!

Saturday morning started off with Desert Rose pattern.   This was another big class, in fact, it was so big, we had to spill out into the hall to get a group picture :)  And I was just so proud of each of these ladies!!!  I told them at the beginning of class that this was a big block and would take some serious focus to get it done in class, well they got right to it!!!  And of course, we still had plenty of laughs along the way!!

6 of the 20 ladies in class got their blocks completely finished, and the rest all got their first 2 layers finished, which is our goal for class.   They just did amazing!!   And I just love how everyone gets so excited to see all of those points line up in this class.   It is just fun to see that moment when they see their block all done and are super proud of their work!!

And the final class I taught on Saturday afternoon was my Decades Past pattern.   We didn't get a group picture as quite a few students had flight changes or needed to get on the road early.   So we just snapped shots as they finished.   So cute!!!    And this was the perfect class to have on a Saturday afternoon.  It goes together super fast and it a really fun one to make.  Just so awesome!!!    These ladies all did a great job ;)

And then it was time for Barbara and I head back down the I-15 to good ol Cedar City.   Wow, just wow!!!  I can't believe how amazing this trip was!!!   In a nutshell, 4 Days, 2 Venues, 6 Classes, 1 Trunk Show, and endless quilting goodness!!! Can't wait for next year!!!
