Diamond Drop Quilt - A Finish and Tutorial

Today is my day for the Riley Blake Design Team Wednesday, which means I am super excited to share a new quilt finish and the tutorial for it.   I call it Diamond Drop and it is oh so much fun!!!!

I was instantly drawn to the beautiful colors of this new Fancy and Fabulous line by Fancy Pants Designs for Riley Blake!!  They are just so perfectly happy and you can't help but smile hen you see them.

You might recall, back here, when I was playing around with a few design options for this quilt.  I knew I wanted to do a Half Rectangle Triangle quilt, but I wanted to mix it up and give it some punch.  Your favorite was option 2 so that is what we went with and I so love it!!!  All of those secondary designs that pop out are just so awesome!!!

As I just said, this is a Half Rectangle Triangle quilt.   Now there are lots of way to make HRT's and I kind of did my own way.  (Which I am sure others have done before ;)   It does require a little bit of waste as there is some trimming involved, but it goes so super fast, and you know I totally love things that can be done fast!!!

Diamond Drop finishes at 56" x 65" so it is the perfect size for snuggling up in with a good book!!  And it really is fast and fun to make and because of the larger size blocks it is very forgiving in letting you ease in some of your maybe not so quite perfect seams.   And of course, In the tutorial I shared all of my fun little tidbits on getting all of those perfect points that I just love!!!

When it came time to quilt it, I went with one of my favorites that I haven't done in a little while :)  The good ol' All Over Echoed Paisley.  This is such a relaxing design to quilt and I forgot how much I enjoyed quilting it.   There is a video tutorial here if you want to see how I quilt this design.

And look at all of that yummy texture it creates.  So fun!!!

And that is Diamond Drop ;)  Be sure to pop on over to the Riley Blake Designs Blog to get the full (and free) step by step tutorial on how to make your own ;)   I hope you love your own Diamond Drop quilt every bit as much as I love the original ;)

Thank you so much for popping in today and each day.  I just love having this space where I can share my joy of quilting with each of you!!  I so appreciate all of your lovely comments and emails, quilters really are the best!!!!

Have a Happy Quilting Day!!!

  9. Love it....I might use the layout you used to make a quilt for Aussie Hero Quilts....the Diamond Drop would look great in football team colours I reckon. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Wonderful quilt! Question though... why two layer cakes? Is it just so that you can have doubles of the same 14 prints? I am wanting to make this, but am trying to decide if I really need to buy two layer cakes. Thanks!

  11. I've been playing with HRTs lately and have to say your method of construction is brilliant. I haven't encountered it before and love the concept -- gotta try it on my next HRT quilt. : )
