Wandering Star X2 and Child Size!!!

So you might recall me mentioning a week or so ago that I needed to quilt a second version of Wandering Star in time for my class . . . Well, I got it all done!!!  And I have since used it to teach 2 classes in two different towns, so fun ;)   So yippee for a new  Wandering Star quilt (yes, it looks exactly the same as the first one I made, I love sample sewing!!!)

The  Wandering Star Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on special right now until the end of February for the $5.00  pattern of the month ;) The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

This version of  Wandering Star is made with Seaglass Summer FQB by Sweetfire Road And the great thing is . . . this fabric is now available in Quilt Shops!!!  When I finished the first quilt back in April,  it was a long wait for for Seaglass Summer . . . but now, you can grab a bundle and get sewing :)    And these fabrics are just so pretty.   I love all of the prints and colors and I just loved picking out the colors for the accent pieces.  The quilt is Fat Quarter Friendly  and the pattern is so versatile, it would look great in just about any fabric line so you can grab a bundle and get cutting!!!

I quilted this version of Wandering Star  with an all over large swirl.  Mostly because of time constraints, but I was super happy when I took it off the longarm.  I don't often quilt in this large of a scale, but it really looks awesome on such a large quilt and adds so much texture.  I am going to have to remember that for the future ;)

And, of course, since I finally got the queen size version quilted, I had to follow it on the longarm with this adorable Child Size Version I made a few weeks ago.  Wandering Star is an intermediate skill level pattern, but I have had beginners make it as well ;)   The pattern uses no-waste flying geese, basic piecing, and pieced sashing to create the secondary stars.

This version of  Wandering Star is made with a Phoebe Fat Quarter Bundle by Dear Stella Fabrics.  I found this bundle in a cute shop in AZ, and you knew I just couldn't pass up the purples!!  It worked so perfectly for this size, and I love the corals as the accent stars!!!

Wandering Star like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, has multiple size options so you can make whatever size quilt works for you ;)   This is the Child Size and the original is the Queen size.  There is also a Baby Size, Lap Size, Picnic Size, and King Size.

I quilted this version of  Wandering Star with some loose feathers.  Again, just doing something that I can quilt real fast so it was ready for class ;)

And those are my new  Wandering Star Quilts!!!       I am just so happy to share it with all of you!! So are you ready to make your own Wandering Star quilt??    If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you are finished with your Wandering Star Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

Thanks again for sharing these Wandering Star Quilts with me!! ???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Patterns before the end of the month as a new pattern will go on sale on March 1st :)

I hope you all have a Happy Quilting Day!!!

Dutch Days for SUU!!!

It's that Homecoming Time of year and that means I get to share another SUU Quilt in my favorite Red, White, and Black color combo!!! I decided to make an SUU Fast & Fun Lap Quilts  and how cute is this Dutch Days Quilt!  I just love it ;)

For this version of Dutch Days, I used Red and White prints from the Red Hot Fabric Line from Riley Blake.  It is another perfect match for an Alma Mater quilt and paired with a Black Basic background, it just makes those red and white prints pop!!!!   And I made a scrappy binding of the white prints from this line and I love how it gives a great low volume look there.  Such a fun way to finish the quilt.

And as always, the Homecoming quilts need an SUU layered applique to the corner of the quilt. The applique is the SUU Mascot, they are the Thunderbirds :)   And when it comes to a custom applique the sky is truly the limit.  It is such a fun way to personalize quilts!!   You can find the step by step tutorial here for layered applique :)

When it came time to quilt this Fast & Fun Lap Quilt  I decided on all over Loose Feathers;)  I just figured I wanted something to add texture that would quilt up fast, and this is always the ticket for that!!    And of course, a black thread was perfect for this quilt.

And that is my SUU Dutch Days quilt from my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book !  Dutch Days finishes at 72" x 72" so it is a great size and it has already found a new home with an SUU Alum ;)  I hope you love this quilt as much as I do and if you make your own Dutch Days quilt, I would love to see it!!  You can share your quilts with me on social media using hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and #fastandfunlapquilts and tag me @happyquiltingmc or you can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.

Thanks so much for popping in for another quilt finish!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!

Summer Breeze in Mushroom Blooms!!!

Today I am super excited to be sharing this adorable new Summer Breeze quilt with you!!!  This is a Picnic Size quilt and it uses one Layer Cake to make it.   I used the oh so cute Mushroom Blooms Collection by Jill and Rani for Poppie Cotton to make this quilts and isn't it just charming!!  ;)

And when I say adorable . . . I mean absolutely adorable!!  As soon as I saw this new line by Poppie Cotton I just knew I had to make a quilt with it.   As a child of the 80's I grew up with Strawberry Shortcake, and these little mushroom children are such a throwback to one of my favorite cartoons growing up.   I mean, just to cute for words!!!   And I love the happy bright colors paired in this line as well.   So ya, It was a must sew with ;)

Image from Modern Quilt Co.

And didn't it just fit the  Summer Breeze pattern so perfectly!!!    Summer Breeze is an Intermediate pattern because it does have an angled diagonal seam that you have to line up, but you will have it down after a block or two ;)  In fact, I just taught this class in June and had a first time quilter in my class and she knocked it out of the park!!!

I just love those happy petals blowing in the breeze!   And the secondary designs created when the blocks are sewn together are just awesome.   And there are extra borders added in on this one, but I think it just adds to the picnic feel of the quilt!!

And Barbara did the quilting and piecing on this one for me, isn't she just the best  :)  And her quilting is just oh so cute!!  She quilted loose feathers in the background and then figure 8's in the petals.   Just so fun. And I love how she left the center background unquilted so it just pops, so great ;)

Summer Breeze, like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, has multiple size options!!  Don't you just love being able to make the size you need without all the quilt math. Again, this is the picnic size, but you can make it from a baby size all the way to a king size ;)   And the pattern has one border, but like this, you can always add more if like.

And that is my newest Summer Breeze Quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider making your own Summer Breeze Quilt!!! And if you do, I would love to see it! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags  #happyquiltingwithmc and #summerbreezequilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Summer Breeze Quilts!!

Thank you so much for popping by and sharing this finish with me.  And a huge thank you to my wonderful friends at Poppie Cotton for creating such adorable fabrics and then letting me play with them!!!

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Petal Pop and more Happy Quilting Patterns!!

Thank you so much for all of the pattern love you have shared with me!!!  I am so glad that you are loving the 3 new Happy Quilting patterns I have shared this week!! Along with the three new patterns, 3 of my original Happy Quilting Patterns have also gotten a Make-over!!!  They are still filled with full color - wonderful illustrations to guide you along each step of the way but now have the benefit of 10 years of writting patterns :)

I so wish I had time to "re-make" each of these quilts as I Re-Release the patterns . . . but as you can see, things are a little busy at Happy Quilting, tee hee hee.   But, I really wanted to make a new Petal Pop quilt as I changed up the pattern a bit.   So here is the new Petal Pop!!!

This version of Petal Pop is made with the gorgeous Kindred Fabrics by 1Canoe2 for Moda that is releasing any day now!!!   I just love the beautiful spring colors and stunning florals of this line, it was perfect for making my petals just pop!!!   I actually have had the quilt done for a bit and taught it in Texas in May, It just took a little longer to get all of the patterns ready to go ;)

I had so much fun custom quilting this version of Petal Pop    The original Petal Pop was done for a magazine and it was before I had a longarm and I sent it out to be quilted.   So I was super excited to  tackle this monster sized quilt.   I did loose feathers in the background, daisies in the center, figure 8's down the sides, and feathers in the petals.  I think it just came together so beautifully and I love all of the yummy texture!!

Petal Pop is made with a cool pieced log cabin technique. Trust me, the block isn't necessarily where you think it is, but it is way easier than it looks.     It is a great quilt for beginners and experts alike and   really is such a fun quilt to make.  And as you can see, you wind up with a fantastic finish  :)

And that is my new Petal Pop quilt and Re-Released Pattern!!! Again, you still get all of the things you loved about Happy Quilting Patterns with this new Re-Releases and then some added technical writting goodness that I have picked up over the years.

So are you ready to get Happy Quilting???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Patterns.   Again, all 6 new PDF Patterns are just $5.50, and the 6 new Paper Patterns are $7.00,  until July 2nd :)     Always good to save on shipping!!   And if you are looking at making Blossoming Stars or Flower Child, be sure and pick up your Modified Drunkards Path template set as well for all of that awesome curved piecing!

And when you finish your  Happy Quilting Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc ;)  I can't wait to see your Happy Quilting Quilts!!!

Double Dutch - New Happy Quilting Pattern!!!

Today I am just thrilled to be sharing a new Happy Quilting Pattern and Quilts!!!   Here is Double Dutch!!! This is such a fun quilt to make.  I have already taught the class twice, and it was so much fun to watch everyone's blocks come together.  I can tell, this is going to be such a fun class to teach for the next little bit (In fact, I am teaching it at Garden of Quilts this Fall!!)

The  Double Dutch Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special for it's release with PDF Patterns at $5.50 and the Paper Patterns are $7.00!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Double Dutch has lots of layout options, so you can make it as shown here with coordinating colors, or you can mix and match the colors like I did on the baby size (shown later)    The quilt is made with No Waste Flying Geese and basic piecing so it really comes together quick.  And with the fun offset layout of each block, it really gives the quilt a lot of movement.   Yup, just happy colorful windmills blowing in the distance :)

This version of  Double Dutch is made with Moonchild by Fran Gullick for Riley Blake Designs! I just love these beautiful colors and prints, and the line was perfect for the color coordinating I was going for on this quilt!!  And of course, the sky is the limit on which fabrics you make it from, it was so fun to see everyone's fabric choices for classes!!!  The quilt is Fat Quarter/Eighth Friendly, so you can Grab a Bundle and get cutting!!!

I quilted this version of  Double Dutch with lots of curly q's in the background and then beautiful feathers in the blocks.  I just love how they turned out and how the feathers in the blocks made it look even more like they were turning :)    And of course, all of the lovely texture is a double bonus ;)

And after I got the original quilted . . . I just couldn't help but make a Baby size  Double Dutch !!!   I wanted to show how fun it is to mix and match your color prints as well, so I used  a petite Fat Eighth Bundle of Forget Me Not by Allison Harris and then paired it with a fun Bee Lori Blue Background.   I think it turned out just oh so cute!!!

I quilted the baby size in an all over loose feather design. It was super fast and has become a favorite of mine, especially after quilting a big quilt all custom quilted :)

And if you are like me, and want to make multiple sizes, you can find the sizes that work just right for you!!!  The pattern has 5 size options :  Baby, Lap, Picnic, Twin and Queen/King.  The Baby and Lap sizes uses smaller blocks and Fat Eighths while the Picnic, Twin, and Queen/King are the big 20" blocks with Fat Quarters.   So now you can make all the sizes :)

And that is my new  Double Dutch quilts and Pattern!!!    You are going to have so much fun making these quilts ;)  And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your Double Dutch Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

So are you ready to start making your Double Dutch Quilts???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Patterns.   Again, PDF Patterns are just $5.50, the Paper Patterns are $7.00,  until July 2nd :)    And while you are there, check out these other newly released and re-released patterns that are also on the same special ;)  Always good to save on shipping!!
