Down Under Quilts my DDD

A while back I was so happy to get an email from the publishers of Down Under Quilts, an Australian Quilting magazine.  They were planning an issue on Dresden quilts and inquired if I would be willing to do a little write up on my Double Dresden Delight quilt that they could include in the magazine.   Absolutely!!!!

The article includes several amazing Dresden quilts and my part describes my design process and some of the inspiration behind creating my Double Dresden Delight quilt.  It really is a fantastic article with some stunning quilts, and I am just tickled pink to be a part of it :)

And . . . I have a fun little Double Dresden Delight surprise.   As this was one of the classes I taught last week, I managed to get the original tutorial put into a PDF.   So . . . If you are interested in a Printable PDF of this pattern, you can find it here for free here.

Blogger's Choice Bundle, Eeeek!!!

A little bit ago I received a email from Kimberly at the Fat Quarter Shop asking if I would like to put together a Blogger's Choice Bundle for their shop.  Absolutely, Positively, One Hundred Percent Yes!!!!  I was over the moon excited.  I started looking at fabrics and was immediately pulled to some beautiful purple prints showing up in the coming months.  I know, you are so surprised that I was drawn to purple, right :)  I threw in some teal and grass and a black to ground it all and came up with this . . .

So . . . do you like it??  I just love it. It is so cool and yet crisp at the same time.  These colors have such a soothing effect on me. I can't wait to play with this bundle.   And if you would like to play with these beautiful prints as well, you can pop on over to the Fat Quarter Shop and request an email notification when the bundle will be available :)  It's not till October so it is a little while to wait, but it gives you (and me) lots of time to plan a design around the bundle :)

Winter Wonderland Row Along

Yesterday was my day for the Round Robin Winter Wonderland Row Along hosted by Patchwork Posse.  This was my first time designing for a row along and it was so much fun!!  Here is my row :)  You can get the PDF download of how to put it together here :)

And while you are over there, be sure to check out all the great rows in this Row Along.  The gals sewing along really have some fun rows coming together!!

I had planned to make all the rows but other projects and time in general has kind of squashed that little idea.  So my little row has other plans.  You will be seeing more soon :)  Oh, and these are the fabrics I showed earlier from Modern Yardage.  They were so fun to work with!!  More on them to come:)

All right, I have got to run little ones to swimming lessons and track.  Have a Happy Quilting Day!!

Teaching at the Quilt Walk

I spent the weekend teaching at the Panguitch Quilt Walk.  It was my first time attending the Quilt Walk and it was absolutely fantastic!!  I taught 4 classes and got to meet so many wonderful and amazing women.  I just love getting to know people through a shared passion.  And there were fabulous trunk shows, a beautiful quilt show, and all around good fabric fun!!

Here are  2  of my classes.   Really, these ladies were just marvelous.  I had such a great time with them!!

And of course, when I got home I realized I didn't take a whole lot of pictures.  But here are a few shots of some of my students progress.  All of the ladies worked so hard and really came out with some beautiful quilts and blocks!!

And to finish the weekend, my wonderful Mother in Law, who you remember lives only 2 doors away, just might have bought one of these :)   And she is so nice to share,  I am so stinking excited!!!

So ya, basically a fantastic quilting weekend all around!!!!   (And the family came up and we even squeezed in a morning at Bryce Canyon, double bonus!!)

Hope you had a wonderful weekend and pop back in tomorrow for a fun new tutorial :)

Modern Mini Challenge Hop

I am so excited to be part of the Modern Mini Inspiration Blog Hop!!  Thank you to Jennifer for inviting me and Welcome to any new visitor's stopping by for the first time!!  I hope you stay awhile and check out some of the happy quilting goodness :)

The mini I am sharing is called Refracted Rainbows and I have to say, I just love this little mini!!

I was inspired to make this mini based on some feedback I received on my original Refracted quilt at Quilt Con.   More on that here.  So, with a new vision of rainbows, I set off.  And I am excited to share with you, the process of creating this mini :)

I used the same method as described in the tutorial, just tweaking it slightly for 6 rays instead of 5 and of course, shrinking it way down in size.  Each of these little guys finish at 2".   Aren't they just so cute and fun!

Next, it was adding a white frame to each little rainbow to set it apart and add contrast.

Then some black sashing to tie it all together.  And here, I have some more inspiration.  Someone commented to me after it was done that it reminded them of the old Kodak logo.  Which made me think, wouldn't it have been fun to do these like the Polaroid blocks??  Yup, I just might be making another one!

With the top done, it is time to come up with a quilting design.  I really wanted to come up with a design that would help to give the idea of the Refracted Rainbow, so I went with this concept that reminds me of the effect light takes traveling through a prism.  (Oh, and if your wondering, I just added the lines to the picture in paint, I find it to be a great tool for helping me decide on quilting designs :)

And here is a close up on how the quilting turned out.

And that is that.  One Refracted Rainbow mini :)

I hope you enjoyed this post and feel inspired to create your own mini!!  If you are stuck on colors, rainbows are always a great place to start.  I mean, who doesn't love a good ROYGBIV quilt??
