Happy Little Things BOM - Finishing and Giveaway!!!

It's the first Monday in December, wow how did that happen!!!  It is really throwing me for a loop having Thanksgiving in the last week of November, I totally feel like I am already playing catch-up for Christmas.    But, one good thing about it being December, it means I get to share the Finish of my Happy Little Things Block of the Month!!!    This fun BOM is hosted by Jacquelynne Steves and has been so much fun!!!  You can read all about The Finishing Instructions over at Jacquelynne's blog!!!    And here is my Happy Little Things Finish ;)

As you can tell right away, I finished my quilt a little different than the instructions ;)   I decided to make 9 blocks total, including an extra basic center block, and then use 16 Cornerstones that are 2 1/2" and then 24 Sashing Strips that measure 2 1/2" x 12 1/2".   That made the quilt finish at 44" x 44" so it is a great baby size quilt!!!

And I love that the Cornerstones and Sashing really set off each block, especially those adorable Log Cabin borders.  It really allowed each design to just shine.   So fun!!!   And of course, the  Gretel Fabrics from my wonderful friend Amy Smart  are just perfect for this little baby quilt.  It is so fun to see all of these blocks together in such an adorable finish.  

And when it came time to quilt it, I really had some custom quilting fun.  I used a whole ton of quilting designs to really make this pop!!!   I quilted wishbones in the sashing, ribbon candy in the log cabin borders, pebbles in the background, wayv lines in the star points, and double arches in the center of the blocks.   Yup, like I said, lots of custom quilting fun.  

And talk about some awesome texture!!!    I just love  how this picture really shows off the quilting and makes each of the blocks pop.    So great :)  I just keep running my hand over the top of this quilt to feel all of that yummy quilting goodness.

Tutorial Throwback Thursday - Crossroads!!!

First off, Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends in the USA!!!   Today I am feeling so very grateful!!   Since it's Thursday, I was thinking about which project to feature today for our Tutorial Throwback.   And I was hit with just how grateful I am for this incredible Quilting Journey I am on.   I absolutely love this industry and I am blown away by how many amazing opportunities and experiences that have been opened up to me on this journey.   When I started my blog,  I did not expect to be an author, or pattern designer, or published, or anything for that matter, I just wanted a space to share quilts ;)    And it just blows me away how starting that blog became a Crossroad into an entire amazing journey, that I am so incredibly grateful for and am loving each and every day of it!!!   So that is why today, we are throwing back to the Crossroads quilt :)

Crossroads is such a fun quilt to make.   It really has a wonderful geometric designs with fun secondary designed created when the blocks are sewn together.  And it is beginner friendly to experts alike because there are not a whole lot of seams that need to be lined up.   So it's fun and fast.   

And because it is basic block construction, it is easy to change the size as well!!!   This quilt in a 4 x 4 layout finishes at 64" x 64" so a nice lap size quilt.   But I have seen it made as a 5 x 5 quilt that finishes at 80" x 80" for a Picnic size, and also as a 6 x 6 quilt that finishes at 96" x 96", a great Queen/King size.  It looks fantastic no matter what size it is made ;)  

And I love, love, love the fabrics in this quilt!!!   This is Gingham Girls by Amy Smart and it was her debut line.  I just love that it reminds me of all of the homemade dresses and shirts and short sets that my mom used to make for me and my siblings.   Talk about some wonderful memories!!! And Crossroads is made using Charm Packs, and ya, I am super into Charm Packs right now!!!  I just love all of those fun little squares :) 

My Crossroads quilt because a gift for a special bride and groom.   Because it goes together fast and easy, it makes for a great gift!!    I just love being able to give the gift of quilty hugs, they are the best!!!  And that is my Crossroads Quilt ;)

Perfect 5 Quilts Book and Short Macaroon Quilt!!!

Today I am super excited to share an adorable new finish for the Perfect 5 Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop.   I am calling it Short Macaroon and you will soon see why :)  

Perfect 5 Quilts is the newest book from It's Sew Emma.  Yup, they are the same publisher helping me create my Charming Baby Quilts book!!!    Perfect 5 Quilts has 16 quilt designs that are all made from Charm Packs.   And you know I love Charm Packs!!!   And the cool thing is, they even created a Perfect 5 Ruler from Creative Grids to make cutting out all 16 projects quick and easy!! 

So each week of the Perfect 5 Quilt Along focuses on blocks from two projects, and over the 8 weeks you will have enough blocks to make the Perfect 5 Sampler quilt.   How fun is that!!! 

I am Week 8 of the Quilt Along so I get to share the Macaroon Block

And the Shortbread Block.    (Hence the name of my quilt, Short Macaroon :)  

Both of the blocks were so fun to make, easy to cut, and turned out so super cute.   I made them using two Wonder Charm Packs by Kate and Birdie for Moda.   Aren't those soft colors and prints just dreamy.  Perfect for a baby quilt ;)

I decided to add sashing and cornerstones because the Macaroon blocks had an awesome "chain" look to them that I wanted to connect that across the quilt.  Because we all know I love "Chain" quilts just as much as Charm Packs :)     And didn't it just make these two blocks come together perfectly!!!  I added a 1" border on the Shortbread blocks so they would finish at the same size as the Macaroon blocks and then just stitched it all together.    So cute!!! 

When it came time to quilt it, I wanted something soft and subtle, just like the Wonder Fabric, so I decided on an all over Curly Q.   I love how it just adds so much movement and wonderfully soft texture.    Seriously, this quilt just kept getting cuter and cuter!!!

 All of the information on this fun quilt along can be found on the Jolly Jabber.   It will go over fabric requirements, each week's blocks, and the single block instructions.  Of course, you will still need the Perfect 5 Book to quilt along for the cutting sizes ;)   

And that is my Short Macaroon quilt!!!   It finished at 38" x 38" so it is the perfect size for a baby quilt.  And this quilt already has a special little wee one in mind for it and that just makes me smile.
