Vice-Veras Quilt Along - Week 1

It's week 1 of the Vice-Versa Table Top Quilt Along hosted by my friends at Fat Quarter Shop!!!  And you know, I couldn't just make a table topper . . .  So I am using the  Vice-Versa Table Topper Kit  as well as the Vice-Versa Table Runner Kit  and will be making 2 projects ;)    First off, was cutting!!!  And you all know how I like to change things up . . . so I decided to make my Vice-Versa Table Topper into a Vice-Versa Baby Quilt ;)   So basically, I am using the charm squares as is to make the project finish at 36" square.  So the only cutting I needed to do for that was the binding :)   For the Vice-Versa Table Runner Kit there was quite a lot of cutting, but it went quick enough.

And I jumped right in with the first steps for the piecing!!!  So with the  Vice-Versa Table Topper kit, I stitched my Stitch and Flip seams down the center of the 5" squares, and then added a bonus Seam 1/2" so that I could get some bonus HST's  (which I could totally make a table topper from, so fun!!)

For the Vice-Versa Table Runner  I started to piece all of the No Waste Flying Geese.  This is my favorite way to make Flying Geese so I am super excited the pattern was written for this technique.   I have all my little geese ready to be cut in half so I can move on to the next step 2 of No Waste Flying Geese.  So much fun!!!   And while cutting this all out, I realized, I don't have a lot of need for a Table Runner, but I so need a lot of baby quilts . . . so I am pretty sure my Vice-Versa Table Runner Kit is also going to finish as a 5 x 5 block Vice Versa Baby Quilt, with 2 extra blocks for the backing :)

So do you want to join in this Quilt Along fun??  It's the perfect time to join in :)  Grab your Vice-Versa Pattern (which is 3 patterns in one book, great deal!!)  and let's get making our first finishes of 2026!!!

Looking forward to working on this throughout the week and sharing more of my progress next Monday!!

$5 Pattern of the Month - Square Dance!!!

It's a New Year and that also means a New Month so we have a new $5 Pattern of the Month here at Happy Quilting!!!  And January is all about Square Dance.  And it is just $5 all month long!!!

The  Square Dance Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version and both versions will be marked down to $5.00 for the month January.   This is such a fun quilt to make and is way easier than it looks.  It is rated for Beginner and is Jelly Roll Friendly.

Square Dance  has 6 size options.   And truly, this is one of those quilts that you will make again and again!  It is my go-to for Baby Boy Quilts and for Men Caves!!   It is just such a versatile design, it works for any occasion ;)

Square Dance  uses basic piecing .  The quilt blocks come together super fast with the print jelly roll strips.   Then there is pieced sashing in the accent fabric that connects all of the blocks with the accent square.  And of course, I have made all of the pressing so that your seams will nest for perfect points.  It really is just perfect for beginners and still so fun for experts alike!!!

And like I said, the design is so very versatile!!  There are so many "basic jelly rolls" that make a cascade of colors Square Dance quilt.   Isn't that just so fun!!

And of course, you don't have to use a white background!! You know how I love a dark background.  It just makes all of the colors just pop!! Whatever you decide, just grab A Roll and have fun piecing this wonderful Square Dance quilt !!

And that is my $5.00 Pattern of the Month!!!   January 2026 is all about the Square Dance Pattern!!!   You are going to have so much fun making this quilt ;)   And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your Square Dance Quilt I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc and #squaredancequilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

And like I said, I got to spend a lot of time this year in person with lots and lots of Happy Quilters! I got the privilege of teaching and sharing on 10 separate quilting trips!! I even recorded my first You Tube live trunk show!!  It was crazy fun ;)    It truly is my favorite part of this whole quilting journey, being able so share my love of quilting with so many Happy Quilters!!

I just love designing quilts and the new Happy Quilting Patterns from 2025 were such a joy to create!!   I am just so glad you love the new patterns and their new look as much as I do.   And I have already started work on 3 new patterns for 2026 and am bringing back another oldie but goodie, so exciting!!!

But the biggest events in 2025 was Weddings!!!  We were so beyond blessed to have two of our children find their special soul mates this year!!  It has been such a blessing to watch them start their lives together and grow in love!!  I just can't even begin to express my joy!!!

And for the Happy Quilting part of it . . . with Weddings comes Wedding Quilts!!

Spencer and Michelle were married in March and I made 3 special wedding quilts for them.

Jessica and Treyson were married in September and I made their Wedding Quilt with Nordic Nights and a special Signature Quilt for the reception.

And that's Happy Quilting 2025 in a nutshell and just wow . . . what a year!!!!

For all of the details about all of the quilts from this year, see my Quilt Archive. at the top of the page.

And I am so excited for 2026!!!  With all the changes in 2025, we now only have two kiddo's living at home that have both moved to the basement, so that means I now get to move my Sewing Studio Upstairs in their old rooms.   Yup, 2026 is going to start with a major remodel of the bathrooms in our house as well as taking out a wall to make a lovely new Sewing Studio!!!!  I can't wait to share all of the progress and am so excited for the prospect of a brand new sewing studio with windows.  Oh so much Happy Quilting is coming our way this year ;)

Also, I said it last year, but this year I totally need to have another quilting marathon , and it will be an Ultra because I have so many quilt tops lined up to be quilted!!  So well look forward to that as well

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for Happy Quilting Along with me ;)

Scrap Quilts Book Giveaway!!!

Let's talk about scraps . . . We all know if you make quilts . . . you are going to make Scraps!!!  So what to do with them all.  Well, I like to sort them by color, but then they just seem to languish in my scrap buckets.   Step in Emily Bailey's Scrap Quilts Book!!!  Every piece must go with this practical guide to quilt making by using even the tiniest pieces of scrap fabric from your stash.   The book includes 15 patterns from full size quilts to smaller quick makes like totes.  And has a great zero waste guide to patchwork and quilting so you can actually get to turning your scraps into beautiful finished makes!!

This is one of my favorites from the book!!!  It is called the Good Night Irene quilt and uses crazy patch piecing to make small scraps into larger scraps, and then A Hexagon Cut (which you can use your AccuQuilt Die, so smart of Emily!!) to make this fun Scrappy Grandmother's Garden quilt!!!   So on my list to make!!!

And since Emily is a wonderful friend, and it is a wonderful time for giving . . . Emily has shared 2 copies of her Scrap Quilts books for me to share with my Happy Quilting readers!!!

To enter for your chance to win a Scrap Quilts book just simply leave me a comment on how big is your scrap stash??    That's it, super simple ;)    GIVEAWAY CLOSED

The giveaway will close on the 29th and I will announce the winner here on the 30th :)
And the winners are . . . #56 Jo and #31 JKay   Congrats, I have emailed you!!
