Sugar Pop N Change Quilt - With a Free PDF Pattern!!

Just a quick reminder - Everything in my ETSY Shop (including my new Fast & Fun Lap Quilts Book)  is 25% off , just in case you missed it with all the hustle and bustle of the Holiday Weekend :)

And with that . . .

Let's get to today's post. I am thrilled to be sharing this brand new Sugar Pop N Change quilt as well as a Free PDF Pattern for it!!! This quilt features the With A Flourish by Simple Simon and Company and is 2 1/2" Strip friendly, so you can grab a Rolie Polie/Jelly Roll and get stitching!!! .

Sugar Pop N' Change was one of the first tutorials I ever made, and it has always been a super popular one. I have been thinking of remaking it for some time, and when I saw With A Flourish, I knew it would be the perfect fabric line for this coin stacking quilt. I just love the happy vibrant colors, and the prints are just so great, from the delicate florals, to the awesome geometric and lines, it just makes for a stunning quilt!!!

The Sugar Pop N Change quilt is made with super basic piecing. You just make a stack of "coins" and then sash them. It goes together super fast and makes for a super fun geometric pattern that has lots of movement thanks to the rotation of the blocks. I just loved whipping it up :) And I actually made this quilt in a larger size than the original, and added lots and lots of size options in the Sugar Pop N Change PDF so you can make from a Baby Size to a King Size.

This quilt is such a fun way to show off so many pretty prints. And I loved that there was only 1 print that had a green background, that made it easy to pull it out and use it as the binding. It is the perfect way to finish it all up. And of course, the Riley White background just makes all of those happy colors pop. Where the "background" in this quilt is made of pretty skinny strips, I recommend using a solid or a basic that reads as one color, that way it really stands out against all those prints.

And as I mentioned, there is also a free PDF Download of this pattern and I included 6 size options, without any quilt math. The quilt I showed is the Lap size, and I have also made the baby size, and have plans to make a Picnic Size next :) To get the FREE PDF Sugar Pop N Change Pattern Download, just click here and download it ;)

This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is Materials-Needed-1024x332.jpg

And when it came time to quilt mine, I wanted to keep that floral vine feel, so I quilted all over loose feathers. This is such a fun design to quilt, and I love that it is not quite as dense so it will make it a great lap size quilt to snuggle up in ;) Sometimes it is just fun to keep it a little softer. And I used good ol' 402 Pearl So Fine for the perfect blending in white and the prints :)

And that is my Sugar Pop N Change quilt!! I hope you have enjoyed this post. Oh, and if you make your own Sugar Pop N Change quilt, I would love to it!!! you can share your quilts in any size with me on social media using hashtags #happyquiltingwithmc and #rileyblakedesigns and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Sugar Pop N Change quilts!!!

Thank you so much for popping in and sharing this quilt with me :)

Hometown Quilt!!!

It's always a fun day when I get to share some secret sewing!! I was thrilled when my good friends at Moda Fabrics asked if I would make the Hometown Quilt  by Camille Roskelley featuring her new Dwell Fabrics!!! And of course, I said yes, I mean, how can you not whip up those adorable tulips and houses, so cute!!!!

I love making Thimble Blossom patterns, they are always so well written, easy to follow, and just fun piecing!  And I truly did have so much fun making up this Hometown Quilt !!!  My favorite was the tulips, just so sweet.  And I love the print Camille chose for the border, it just frames up that navy dot background perfectly.

And I know it looks like a lot of piecing, but it is all piecing on the larger size, and you can chain piece the house blocks and the tulip blocks, so it truly goes together quite fast.  And wouldn't it just make the perfect wedding present or a new homeowner gift!!!  It finishes at 70" x 80" so it is a great size to snuggle up in or have as a throw on a couch.

And I had so much fun custom quilting this one!!!   I quilted all over curly q's in the background.   Then on the houses I did scallops on the roof, arches in the windows, and straight lines in the door.  I just love the way it all came together, don't they just look so cozy!!!

And on the tulips I pulled out all the fun flowy designs.  I did echoed petals on the petals (makes sense :) and loose feathers on the leaves and a wavy line on the stems.  I just love all of the texture this gives the quilt, especially on those petals.  So adorable!!!   I just had a blast quilting this one!!!

And now this quilt is off visiting lots of quilt shops in a whole bunch of hometowns :)  So I will have to wait to snuggle up in it, But you don't have to wait!!!  Dwell Fabrics are shipping now and Fat Quarter Shop has a Hometown Quilt Kit already available !!   So you can whip up your own Hometown Quilt before the end of the year, so great!!!

I know you are just going to have so much fun making your own ;)   It really is such a fun quilt to make and comes together so easy!!   And then you have such a beautiful finish to show for it!!!!   I am excited for this one to come back because I think it is just going to make such a lovely wedding gift :)

And that is it for today !!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!

Diamond Dash - Fast & Fun Lap Quilts

It's Week 3 of my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts Book Tour and today I am sharing a second version of the Diamond Dash quilt! It's always fun to see how different a quilt can look by changing things up the fabrics.

For this version of Diamond Dash, I decided on a monochromatic theme.  My goal with this version was to show how fun it can be to choose one color in all it's hues along with white, and make a stunning statement quilt.   And I even used a Chambray in Denim for the background.  I love all of the added texture it gives to the quilt, and it really makes it feel like a great picnic quilt as it has a little more weight to it ;)

This version of Diamond Dash was made using Nantucket Summer fabrics by Camille for Moda Fabrics.  All the quilts in Fast and Fun Lap Quilts are made with 1 Layer Cake/10" Stacker and a background fabric.  Nantucket Summer was the perfect print for an monochromatic look as it has so many different shades of blue..  I just love how it turned out!  And of course, the scrappy binding is the perfect finish.   The quilt finishes at 64 1/2" x 64 1/2".

Since I custom quilted all the quilts in the Fast & Fun Lap Quilts  I thought it would be fun to do all over designs for these second versions.   For this Diamond Dash quilt, I quilted all over loose feathers.   This design is perfect for this quilt as it really plays nice in the negative space.   And the funny thing is, I quilted this the day after getting back from the quilting cruise, and let me tell you, when your body still feels like it is on a ship and you try to long arm, you are rocking and rolling all over the place :)

And that is another Diamond Dash quilt, the third lap quilt in my new Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book !  You can find the Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book in your local or online quilt shops,  C&T Publishing, or if you would like a personalized signed copy, you can order from my Etsy shop.  And if you make your own Keystone Corner quilt, I would love to see it!!  You can share your quilts with me on social media using hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and #fastandfunlapquilts and tag me @happyquiltingmc or you can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.

Thanks so much for popping in for another Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book day of fun.    And if you haven't had a chance to enter Amy's Fast & Fun Lap Quilts Giveaway for some beautiful Blue Jean fabric that you can use to make your own monochromatic Diamond Dash Quilt, be sure and pop on over and enter.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!

Leaves- HQM Quilt 24

It is Week 24 of the Happy Quilting Marathon and this week I purposely left a small one, because I knew I would be at Garden of Quilts all week and just had Monday to get this done :)   And so that is exactly what I did and now I get to share my adorable finish . . . Leaves!!!

I fell in love with this quilt the moment I opened it in the May 2021 Sew Sampler Box  and I whipped up the quilt in no time at all.  And then, ya know, story of the whole quilting marathon, it sat and waited to be quilted :)  Which is kind of sad, because it only took me a little bit to quilt, but again, also good, because I needed a small quilt for this weeks marathon ;)

Leaves is an Exclusive Pattern for the Sew Sampler Box and uses a Joy in the Journey Rolie Polie.  I just love the soft tones and adorable prints.  It's perfect for a fall baby quilt!!! And wouldn't ya know, I have a sweet friend in the neighborhood expecting any day!!!  Sometimes, timing just works out perfectly :)

And one of the big reasons I could quilt this so fast is that I used a traveling all over feather design.  I know this looks a little complex, but it really is super easy to quilt, and double bonus, super fast to quilt as well!!! And I just think the loose feathers go perfectly with the leaf design, just another set of falling vines :)

And that is my Leaves Quilt!!  Now it is all tied with a ribbon and ready to be delivered just as soon as a little bundle of joy is delivered :)

And that is Quilt #24 - All the Trimmings ;)  24 Down and only 2 more quilts to go in the Happy Quilting Marathon :)   It's so great to only see the last row empty!!!

And that is it for today, thanks for popping in to share this finish with me!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

Sweet Blend - HQM Quilt 22

It is Week 22 of the Happy Quilting Marathon and it isn't Saturday, yippee for not waiting to the last minute!!! And this quilt was a long time coming, I actually started it back in 2019, finished the top in February, and am just now quilting it.   So without further ado, here is Sweet Blend!!

And not only was I waiting to finish this Sweet Blend quilt, my daughter was waiting for it to grace her bed.  I started this quilt when we painted her room over Spring Break 2019 so that she would have a more tween look ;)  Kami picked the pink background (Kona Primrose)  and I loved that it won't show the daily wear as much as a white background ;)   I am just so happy it is all done and she gets to enjoy it now.  She has been so patiently waiting, and I am just thrilled with how it all came together!!

I used Amy Elli's Wanderlust Fabric.  Both Kami and I love the bold colors and prints in the line, and it worked perfect for this Sweet Blend pattern as there were an equal number of "low volume" prints as bright prints.  So great!!! I added a little more to the pattern to finish the stars in the center row, and then needed a sashing on the top and bottom so it would be bed sized.  So my quilt finishes at 72" x 90".

And Kami's favorite quilting motif is Loose Feathers, so of course, that is what I quilted in the background for her ;)   I did arches in the diamonds that make up all the stars and it just came out so pretty!!!  And I love Kami was nearly jumping up and down with excitement while I was quilting it ;)

And talk about yummy texture!!!   It is just going to be so perfect for her bedroom.  It really makes it look more Tween room now, and that of course makes my Tween very happy in deed :)   So next week, I need to finish her sister's quilt that I  started on the same Spring Break back in 2019 because now that one has their new quilt, I don't think I can put the other one off very long.  Good thing this Marathon will provide the extra motivation to quilt it up!!!

And that is Quilt #22 - All the Trimmings ;)  22 Down and only 4 more quilts to go in the Happy Quilting Marathon :)   Ready to make Josie just as happy next week :)

And that is it for today, thanks for popping in to share this finish with me!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

Be Fruitful - HQM Quilt 21

It is Week 21 of the Happy Quilting Marathon and exhaustion almost got the best of me today.   I quilted this yesterday and just needed to add the binding, but after fighting a cold all week, I ended up with a migraine today.   And let me tell you, it is hard to bind when you can not see the needle on the machine, tee hee hee.   I am sure in real marathon's, people feel way worse with only 5 miles to go, so I figured I best suck it up, and not trip so close to the end.   And I pushed through and here is Be Fruitful just in the nick of time!!!

And let me tell you, I am so happy it is done because this is one of my "older" waiting around to be quilted quilts ;)  I actually made the plan for this quilt back in 2019 using the Be Fruitful block from the Goodness Grows Sampler.  I finished the quilt top in April of 2020 and planned to get it quilted right away.  Well . . . two years later and it's done!!! And isn't it just so happy :)

I used the scraps from my Goodness Grows Sampler to make this Be Fruitful quilt.   And I just love all of Corey Yoder's fabrics and this Sugarcreek line was sure a cute one!!  To make the quilt, I simple made 16 blocks, and then sashing's with stitch and flip cornerstones.   The blocks are 15" finished and the sashings were 3" finished so the quilt ended up being 75" x 75" so it is a great picnic size quilt ;)

And as I said, I wasn't feeling great (colds are no fun) when I quilted this, so I went for a nice and fast finish with all over loose feathers.   I just love how fun these are to quilt, I just flow all over the quilt with my little arched feathers :)  And you guessed it, 402 for the win on thread choice ;)

And now this Be Fruitful Quilt is finally all finished and ready to be gifted.  I think this is another one that would make a  lovely wedding or graduation gift.  It's so nice to be getting a stack of these done so I am set for weddings and graduations for a little while now ;)   I can't believe how many of these were just waiting to be quilted, but this one was totally worth the wait!!!

And that is Quilt #21 - All the Trimmings ;)  21 Down and only 5 more quilts to go in the Happy Quilting Marathon :)   Next week I have hopes to start earlier in the week and not leave it until the very last second, no way can I not finish now :)

And that is it for today, thanks for popping in to share this finish with me!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

2 New Happy Quilting Patterns!!!!

I am super excited this morning to share 2 Brand New Happy Quilting patterns!!!  So let's get right to it ;)  The first one is called Blossoming Stars and I know I say this about all my quilts, but truly, I just love it!!!  And it has curves, ya, I am so just loving curves!!!!  How could I not, they just make the prettiest petals for these blossoms :)    This pattern uses the same templates as Nordic Nights and Flower Child, so you are all ready to go!!!

So where to find the pattern??  Both the Hard Copy and the PDF version of this pattern can be found  found in my Etsy Shop, and like all my new Pattern Releases, It is on Special !!!!  For one week the PDF Patterns are just $5.50, the Hard Copy Patterns are $7.00,  and the MDP Templates are just $5.00!!!

And like I mentioned, Blossoming Stars uses the Modified Drunkards Path block that allows for all of those beautiful curvy petals!!  The pattern uses a three pin method to sew the curves, and again,  they are easier than you think :)  There is an easy to follow curved cutting and piecing tutorial here that walks you through making the Modified Drunkards Path blocks step by step!!

This version of Blossoming stars is made using Tulip Tango by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics.    Aren't the prints and colors in this line just gorgeous, so perfect to make these beautiful blossoms.       But of course, it would look amazing in any fabrics!!  Blossoming Stars is Fat Quarter Friendly, so you just grab a bundle and get cutting!!!!

And when it came time to quilt it I went all out with some custom quilting!!!   I quilted arches in the chain squares, swirls in the background, paisleys in the stars, pebbles in the center star, and feathers in the petals.   And Squeal!!!!   I am just thrilled with how it all came together.  So, so, so pretty and so much amazing texture!!!

And that is the Queen/King size of my new Blossoming Stars pattern!!!  I am just so excited to be able to share this design in pattern form.  And I love that there is now a third pattern in my Happy Quilting Pattern lineup that uses my Modified Drunkards Path Acrylic Templates!!!   So let me tell you a bit more about the pattern ;)

Like all my patterns, Blossoming Stars has size options so you can make the quilt size that fits you ;)  You will find 5 size options, a Baby, Lap, Picnic, Twin and a Queen/King size.  And like I mentioned before, it is Fat Quarter Friendly , and you just need to add a Chain Fabric and a Background Fabric.

And of course, I had to make a Baby Size version as well!!!  I really wanted to see what the quilt would look like with a dark background and it is still, a stunner!!!

I used Low Volume Fat Quarters from Songbook by Fancy That Design House for Moda Fabrics and changed out the center star fabric to match the chain fabric.  It was a little tweak but turned out so cute!!!   Don't you just love how those Low Volumes pop on the Grunge Background.  And of course, the baby size is only 4 blocks so it is a great place to start if you want a quick finish or you just want to practice some of your curve sewing before you jump all in :)

And I quilted it with a fun loose feather, but instead of it being loose all over the quilt, I did loose feathers in a row.   Doesn't it just give it a fun vine effect.  I am so going to have to do this again soon!!

And before we leave this pattern, let's remind you on the Acrylic Templates!!!  First off, there is a paper template in the pattern that you can use to make templates from Template Plastic or Cardboard so you don't have to buy the templates.  With that said,  these acrylic templates are awesome!!  They are 1/8" thick clear acrylic, just like all of your quilting rulers and make cutting this quilt out so easy!!!    And remember, these are a template for a Modified Drunkards Path block, so if you have a regular Drunkards Path Template, they won't work for this quilt, sorry.

So with that . . . Let's move to the second new Happy Quilting pattern . . .

Swirling Leaves!!! You might recall when I shared this quilt as the Cover Girl for American Patchwork and Quilting . . . well, the wait is over and it is now a Happy Quilting Pattern as well and I have included size options!!!

Once again, both the Hard Copy and the PDF pattern can be found  found in my Etsy Shop, and it is also on Special with PDF Patterns at $5.50 and the Hard Copy Patterns are $7.00!

Swirling Leaves is such a fun quilt to make and is the perfect quilt for Fall.  It uses HST's, Stitch and Flip Corners, and basic piecing so it really comes together quick.   And it makes so big blocks, like as in 30" finished blocks.   Which is why you will notice, the size options are really more like 3 sizes, and then I have added borders to those 3 to make 3 additional sizes.  Really, there are only so many sizes you can make with a 30" block ;)

This version of Swirling Leaves is made using Grunge Fat Quarters for Moda Fabrics and you can see all of the colors I used in this post.   However, the cutting of the Fat Quarters was a bit confusing.   So I changed the pattern to be Layer Cake Friendly.  That way you cut each leaf from one Layer Cake square and it keeps everything easy and straightforward for matching up prints.    I really think you are going to love it and it also allows you to add lots more variety.

I quilted this version of Swirling Leaves with my favorite All Over Swirl.  I mean, if you have a quilt called Swirling Leaves, you might as well quilt a swirl on it, right!!!!

And I am just thrilled to now be able to share this Swirling Leaves quilt as a Happy Quilting Pattern with size options.

So let's see em.   You will find 6 size options in this pattern.  The Table Topper, Lap, and Queen sizes do not have a border, and the Baby, Picnic, and King size quilts have an included border to make the quilts the right size as I mentioned before :)

And so of course, I had to make a border version :)  I whipped up this Baby Size and I just love it with the border.  It frames everything so nicely.   And of course, I had to quilt more swirls on my Swirling Leaves quilt :)

The baby size is only 1 block so it really goes fast.  You can use scrap 10" squares as you only need 7 of them or just scraps all together.  I used some scraps from a secret sewing project :)  This is Slow Stroll by Fancy That Design House for Moda Fabrics.  (Ya, she is my new favorite designer!!!)   Isn't this just such a pretty fall look, I just love all the rich colors!!!   It will be coming out in June so not to much longer to wait!!!

And I just had to share this fun extra I added.  I still had some scrap squares left over from my secret sewing, and I didn't want a single piece one to get buried in my scrap bins.   So I made an adorable simple patchwork backing.  Isn't that just so fun.   It truly makes it a reversible quilt ;)

And those are my new quilts and patterns!!!!

So let's have a few reminders to sum it all up ;)  Just  like all my patterns, these two new patterns are full color and can be printed in either page format or book format.  The patterns are filled with lots of wonderful illustrations to guide you along each step of the way.   You are going to have so much fun making these quilts ;)  And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)

So are you ready to start making your Blossoming Stars and Swirling Leaves Quilts???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Patterns, and Templates.   Again, PDF Patterns are just $5.50, the Hard Copy Patterns are $7.00,  and the MDP Templates are just $5.00 but only until June 1st :)

And when you make your Blossoming Stars and Swirling Leaves Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc ;)  I can't wait to see your Happy Quilting Quilts!!!
