Modern Baby Tour And Giveaway

Today is my stop on the Modern Baby Blog tour and I am so excited!!  If you are stopping by for the first time, Welcome!!  I hope you enjoy your visit and come back often :)  I was so thrilled to be a part of this fantastic book and to work with so many fantastic people on it!!!

My contribution is Daddy's Little Girl

We have three little girls that are totally wrapped around their Daddy's little finger.   Hence, the inspiration for the zig-zag that wraps up the quilt.

I added an ombre-sk background moving from black to white to bring  lots of modern flair, and combined with the quilting (which I did myself and just love!!) the little wrapped zig-zags really pop!!

The final touch was the adorable tiny applique that references those little cuties that inspired the creation from the start :)

The theme of this little Book Tour is Baby Showers, and I have to say, I have attended quite a few baby showers and am becoming quite the baby shower game expert :)  That's right, I can undress and dress a baby doll in 15.2 seconds, I can distinguish baby food flavors from sight with uncanny accuracy, and celebrity baby photo guessing, let's just say baby Justin Bieber still looks a lot like teen Justin Bieber.

But after the games, and the goodies comes my favorite part!!  The gifts :)  I remember the joy of opening all of my adorable little outfits, toys, and blankets for my little ones and I just love to see a new mom ohh and ahh over cute little baby goodies.  And nothing get's quite as loved as a personalized handmade baby quilt :)

I have lost track of how many baby quilts I have made for sisters, sister-in-laws, friends, neighbors, teachers, and the list goes on.   At one point in time, a few years back, I had a whole group of friends and sister having babies all together and made over 20 baby quilts in about a year and a half.   I even remember to take pictures of most of them, which, as this was before the blogging days, is pretty amazing for me.  Please excuse the pre-blogging picture quality, but hey, at least they are finally making their debut here at Happy Quilting :)

I just love making Baby quilts!!  I have 3 in the works right now and I wouldn't have it any other way!!!  I am sure that you will just love Modern Baby and find lots of Baby Quilt Inspiration.

And you can win a copy of Modern Baby just by leaving a comment on this post telling me your favorite baby shower game.  That's it, just one comment a person please.  I will pick a random winner on Monday the 29th and announce it here :)

And be sure to continue following along with the tour for lots more chances to win :)

  1. I haven't been to a baby shower in ages and don't remember any games. However, my niece is having her first child this summer. I would love to win this book for some baby quilt ideas.

  2. Hi - I love to play baby shower bingo - It takes a long time, I know, but everyone can play
on equal ground. Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I love making the guests guess how big is the belly by cutting a strip of toilet paper roll, ribbon, etc and then have fun checking who was closer by trying it around the pregnant mummy! Thanks for the chance to win!

  4. Thanks for the chance on winning this ebook. I guess I'm pretty sick but one game I enjoy and get a huge kick out of is the messy diaper game with 12 of them numbered and each with a different candy bar smashed in them. The baby shower attendees need to guess which one is which, without any hints of the candy bars used. Huge laughs and you get to know who knows their sh**! LOL Told you I was twisted. Jane

  5. Probably the clothespin game. If you cross your legs you get your pin taken away. If you catch someone else doing so, you get to take theirs. Person with the most clothespins at the end wins the prize!

    ReplyDelete
  6. my favorite game is when they give you a safety pin, and tell you that if you say "baby" you have to give the pin to the person who catches you. If you hear it, you get their pin. I am very good at tricking people into saying "baby" :). One year we did a similar game at retreat where the word was fabric. and i was losing my pin like crazy!

  7. I love making baby quilts and giving them as shower gifts! The last time I went to a baby shower we didn't play games, just enjoyed the food, visiting, and seeing all the cute baby gifts. So I can't really think of a game that's a favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Actually, I don't really like any shower games. They just never appealed to me. Door prizes are about a close to a game that I don't mind playing. :) Your baby quilts are all wonderful though the new one is a real prize; love it!

  9. My favorite baby shower game is the string around the belly & I love when you fill-in the blanks for a baby blessing/hopes for baby cards.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I Like the game where everyone brings their baby picture and we have to guess who it is.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I actually don't have a favorite game, but at my upcoming shower we are only going to play a guessing game about what quotes from children's books belong to which story.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Definitely making a wedding dress out of newspaper - I am amazed at some of the designs that I have seen!

    ReplyDelete
  13. We usually don't have baby shower here in Germany, you get visits and gifts after the baby is born, so I don't know any games. I'd love to have the book anyway because a dear friend of mine is having her baby in September, and of course this little one needs a quilt.
    Thanks for the chance!

  14. I have never really played too many baby shower games - but I do love trying to match baby pictures with their grown-up counterparts. Love your quilt and the inspiration behind it!

  15. I haven't been to one in ages!! I liked the old game where you carried a clothes pin between your knees while walking to a bottle and dropped it in.....crazy things we do when we get together!!!! love your quilt

  16. My favorite game was at my baby show in CA. It was coed since we only getto visit family in CA every now and then due to the military. They had bottles filled with tastes drinks and of course the guys wanted beer in theirs. They had to race to finish a 2oz bottle. It was hilarious seeing all these grown men sucking on bottles. The prize was a 6 pack of non alcoholic beer. Another thing I loved that wasn't a game was the diaper raffle. Anyone who brought diapers was given a ticket and at the end of the night a winner was drawn. They won $50 Visa card but we were the real winners! We did the same thin at my baby shower in Texas and we didn't have to buy diapers until my daughter was 10 months old!!! I highly suggest a diaper raffle it helped us out so much! Thanks for the chance to win! I love your quilt!

  17. At my baby shower we played a nursery rhyme version of a game from our favourite Music Quiz Show "Spicks & Specks" - The Game is called Turning Japanese - you put the words into an online translator from English to Japanese and then take what you get and translate online from Japanese to English ... someone reads them out and people have to guess what the nursery rhyme is. It was pretty funny.

  18. I am one of those "anti-shower game" people. I just like to chat, eat, and ooh and aah over presents.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I have never been to a baby shower, so all these games are a mystery to me! My nephew's wife just gave birth to their first baby yesterday, so this book would be really handy right now :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. I don't think I've been to any baby showers since mine 34 years ago! Can I still enter? LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  21. We don't have baby showers in England so I've never been to one but my favourite party game is 'Twister'!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I like the one where you pass around a try of baby items, then have to remember and write everything down after the tray has been hidden away. I love all of your quilts! Thanks for the chance to win your book. :)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Wonderful quilt and your quilting was really beautiful. AN easy and favorite game is to guess how long a string has to be to wrap around the mom to be's belly. They even have plastic tape with inches marked on it now.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I really like the word games, unscramble baby items, or nursery rhymes. And the guessing of the baby foods, take the labels off and have a small taste.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Best baby shower game is to put several flavors of baby foods, each in cup/small bowl, and assign a number for each one. Give everyone small spoon for tasting and see who gets the most correct. It works best if you have 2 or more of the same color. That way they have to go by actual taste.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Not much on games but I do like to chat. Love seeing all those quilts, you've come a long way!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love making baby quilts too! I just need more excuses to make them. My husband and I are both the oldest so most of our sisters haven't started their families yet and I'm getting impatient! Of course, all of our sisters love my puff quilts, so I may just end up making a bunch of those and never get a chance to try something new...
My favorite baby shower game is the one where you match candy bars to different pregnancy/baby related terms. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love your zig zag pattern, and the cite photo of your girls! My favorite baby shower game is filling in the words to nursery rhymes.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hmm, I've only been to one baby shower and the games we played weren't that exciting. But they did have tiny bottles filled with M&Ms. I liked those! Great quilt. Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have never been to a baby shower that had games. We must be a boring bunch here!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think my favorite would be the memory game. Where there are 20 things on a tray, have 20 sec to look, and then have to write down as many as you can remember.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I like the game where write down the proper name of baby animals.

    ReplyDelete
  33. My "FAV" game would be the one where you put a bunch of baby items on a tray and you have to remember them... and write them down on paper.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm awful at baby shower games, but I love to make baby quilts and present them to moms/babes!

    ReplyDelete
  35. My favorite baby shower game is gift bingo! Everyone gets a bingo card with a bunch of gifts written on it. You cross things off as the mommy-to-be opens up the gifts and hope to be the first one to get bingo! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love making baby quilts too. Probably because of their size, but I also love the colors. I like the shower games I win -- I used to be pretty good at winning but not so much lately. Your followers have given some great ideas. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Love the floral quilting on the pink zig zags - sooo sweet! Looks like a great book.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Your girls are adorable. Wow! That's a lot of baby quilts at one time.

    ReplyDelete
  39. How fantastic, I love baby quilts too! We don't really have 'baby showers' here but I went to one (of a Canadian friend) where we had to remember celebrities baby names! That was pretty funny.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I like relay races - changing diapers, buckling doll in carseats - lots of running around the room and giggling.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Guessing the belly size/string game is fun! And putting a small safety pin in a bowl of rice, watching people try to get it without looking is fun as well!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I must admit that I dont know any baby shower games! sorry!

  45. I am not much into shower games...just like to visit and see all the fun gifts. Your quilt is my favorite on the tour so far!

    ReplyDelete
  46. The last baby shower I went to one of the games that we played was going around the room and cutting a piece of string the size around that we thought the mother to be was. Then she put them around her to see who was the closest. I can see where a pregnant woman might not find this funny but the mother to be was proud of being pregnant and thought it was fun to see how far off some people were. With the right person and attitude it is pretty funny. I personally like work games but can't think of any at the moment. Cute picture of your girls with their dad. I also enjoyed seeing pictures of your lovely quilts.

    ReplyDelete
  47. one my husbands side of the family always does is a bunch of pacifiers in a big jar and who ever gets the closest number wins a gift. I also like, everyone has a card and guesses how much the baby will weigh when born. These cards go to grandma to be and whoever is the closest gets a resturant gift card.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I like where you put a scoop of chocolate icecream in a disposable diaper and into the freezer. Then you take them out, pass around and see who can eat the icecream the fastest! It's pretty hilarious!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I also like the memory game with the tray full of baby items. At my daughter's baby shower next to the guest book I provided 5x7 cards entitled "Words of Wisdom". I asked the guests to write tips on raising a child and to sign their names on the back and place them in a basket. This was the last game of the day. We had my daughter pull out the 1st winning card then all the remaining cards and read the words of wisdom out loud...It was a touching moment.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh, baby shower games. They are all so embarrassing!

    ReplyDelete
  51. We played a game at my shower where everyone took pictures of me and my husband and cut out various facial features, etc. to make "predictions" as to what the baby would look like! Hilarious!!! christina112358 at gmail dot com

    ReplyDelete
  52. I never really liked the games at the showers-now quilting I like-er I mean LOVE!

    ReplyDelete
  54. we do the bath tissure game where you take the amount of bath tissue that you think will go around her belly. the closest to her size wins

    ReplyDelete
  55. After playing various games at baby showers....I like to get everyone's guess on the birth: date, weight, height, time and baby's gender (if they don't already know it. The winner is given a nice prize like a gift certificate. I always know someone who is pregnant, so having a new book with new ideas would be a wonderful thing to win. Thanks for the chance to win.

    Cute quilt and family:)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Love your baby quilts Melissa!! I especially love the stars in the pink and grey, and the bright blue & green one, and of course the hexies!! I can't say I've been to too many baby showers lately (our ward has lost most of the young couples: it's so expensive to buy a house here, and we had one girl in nursery last year, and this year there are no children in nursery!!! :-( But I guess the funniest one is guessing what baby food it is (and of course it's gross too, cause they put them on diapers-looks awful!!). It's hard for me to do though, cause I never bought baby food: I had a grinder that mashed everything up! It was way cheaper that way, and we were way poorer then!! :-) Have a great weekend! H in Healdsburg

    ReplyDelete
  66. I like the memory game. It keeps my brain working!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I love "the price is right". Hostess holds up a baby item; guests guess price and earn 10 points if they get it exact and 3 points if they are within a quarter. Winner is the guest with the most points and mom-to-be gets all the baby goodies.

    ReplyDelete
  68. It feels quite sad to say it but I have never been to a baby shower. Made several baby quilts as gifts though.

    ReplyDelete
  69. It is only in the last 3 or so years that baby showers are becoming popular here in Australia. I have only been to one and that was for my niece a couple of years ago. I'm sorry to say I can't remember what games (if any) we played! Thanks for the lovely giveaway.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  78. I'm not a huge fan of shower games but I do love shower crafts, like decorating onesies.

    ReplyDelete
  79. I have not gone to baby shower in 20 years. All I can think of stories on feeding.

    ReplyDelete

  88. I don't care for baby shower games, but the one I remember that was so hard was guess the baby food. There were jars without the labels and you had to guess what was in them and no you did not get to open the jars to smell.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I love the clothespin game; when someone says a specific word, then someone else can claim your clothespin (or diaper pin, whatever). And that "how big is the belly game?" I always short my guess by 4 or 5 squares; the mom-to-be will thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  90. We played t/f with a list of possible things about babies and the mothers during pregnancy. That was fun.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I like the "how much $$ is this item". I still purchase some of that stuff, so I get most of it right! :)

We are expecting baby #8 is due in August (Mr. Whats-his-name is our 5th boy) and I have had my eye on this book since you blogged about it a few months ago. How perfect would it be if I won this?! I still have time to make something!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  92. I like the game where guests bring baby photos of themselves and you have to match the person to the photo.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I enjoy the game when the guest have to guess the gender (If not known), weight and the date and time when the baby will be born. There is usually a prize to be awarded later.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I love the game where fill a bowl with uncooked rice & add little bag of colored safety pins in it. Then you blindfold a person & they have one minute to try to find as many safety pins in the bowl of rice as they can- It's really hard because without looking, the rice & the safety pins are hard to tell apart. You can use pink ones for girls & blue for boys. Super fun! awesome giveaway

  95. I haven't been to a baby shower in many years. There were games, but I don't remember any.

    ReplyDelete
  96. I went to a post-baby shower that had photos of the baby, and guests wrote in captions. That was cute. Thanks for the giveaway! This looks like a fun book.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I love the scrambled words. It's unbelievable to me that I can't figure some of the easiest ones out there. The clothespin one is fun to. FYI great tutorial on that strip pieced quilte. You made it look easy and it's beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  98. It's fun to have everyone cut off a piece of crepe paper or ribbon that they think is the circumference of mom's belly, then have the mommy measure her belly and see whose ribbon is closest to the actual length.

    ReplyDelete
  99. All those baby quilts are beautiful. I like the mystery bag game where you put lots of different baby items into paper bags and seal them up. Everyone gets a chance to feel what's in the bags and writes their guesses down...the winner is the person with the most correct.

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  105. I haven't been to a baby shower in a long time. I would love to own this book. now I'm retired and will have a chance to attend the showers!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'm not a fan of most shower games. I especially dislike the one where you have so many pins and someone can take one if you say the word "baby" or cross your legs. I actually lose all my pins as fast as I can, so I don't have to worry about it anymore. :-)

I'd love to win this book.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Your "Daddy's Little Girl" quilt is just awesome and I love the tutorial you did for the strip quilt also. I have only been to one baby shower and although we played games I really can't remember what they were (I was drinking wine and laughing too much).

    ReplyDelete
  111. The only baby shower game I remember playing, is sampling the baby food and guessing which one it is

    ReplyDelete
  112. We played one at a gender reveal party where you chose which parent's looks you wanted for the baby - body part by body part.

    ReplyDelete
  113. The last baby shower I was at didn't have a game. However, back in the 60's when my sisters were having babies there were games they wouldn't let me play because I was too little !

    ReplyDelete
  114. I don't think I have ever been to a shower with any games. But I bet I would be great at diapering a baby with pins in the dark. Got quite good at that since I am the only one who used cloth diapers in my group of friends and that is only six years ago.

    ReplyDelete
  115. with daughters that are now married and having babies, it has been fun to see all the old games again. My favourite is the memory game, where you have 1 minute to memorize all sorts of baby items on a tray, then try to write them all down. A new one that I get grossed out by is 'guess the chocolate bar", all warmed up and gooey in a diaper - yuck!

    ReplyDelete
  116. You have a beautiful family! I loved seeing their picture! Would love to be included for the book!

    ReplyDelete
  117. The old toilet paper/ribbon around the belly guessing game. :)
