Scraps, Inc. - Scrappy Goodness and a Giveaway

At the end of last year, Lucky Spool Media released Scraps, Inc. a compilation book that is all scrappy.  Several of the designers in this book are my bloggy friends and so I followed along closely with the Blog Hop and found with each stop I was saying, I need to make that quilt, oh and I need to make that quilt too.

The designs in this book are as individual and creative as their designers.  My absolute favorite thing about this book is that even though every quilt is scrappy, they all still have balance and control in the design and color placement.  And that kind of scrappy just signs to me ;)

I sort my scraps by color in these little totes.  I love how quickly I can just toss my scraps in the coordinating bins and they don't take up a lot of room in my sewing space ;)

Which makes it great, for scrap quilts like this Fire Whirl by Lee of Freshly Pieced or Unraveled by Faith of Fresh Lemons where you are needing to pull your prints by color.  Isn't it so fun that they are so scrappy and yet are so balanced with the colors!!  And of course, I love the pops of purple ;)

But if you sort your scraps by size, this book has got you covered too ;)  I loved that at the beginning of each project, it tells you if you will be working with Strips, Squares, or Both ;)  I love that it is just one little thing that makes starting a new project so easy!!

So for instance, if you wanted to make Amy from Diary of a Quilter's gorgeous Scrappy Courthouse Steps quilt you would go pull from your Strip stash ;)   Once again, I just love that Amy also uses the warm and cool colors to create a balance in her quilt.

And if you wanted to make Jeni from In Color Order's beautiful Sunset Tiles quilt you would go pull from your Squares stash ;)   And this gorgeous quilt is super scrappy, but Jeni still uses those little white setting squares to keep it balanced and give your eye a place to rest ;)

And usings Squares and Strips you can make up Amy Ellis from My Creative Side's stunning My Favorite Things quilt.   Which I think is the perfect summary of a scrap quilt.  They really are some of my all time favorite blocks, all brought together, and all in a scrappy balanced goodness.  Love this quilt!!!!

And I love this book!!!  We all know that we create scraps like bunnies, so it is so fantastic to have a book full of amazing ideas on how to burn through some of those scraps and just love, love, love the finished look!!  I think it is time to start sorting through some of my bins and get Scrap Quilting!!!

And the kind folks at Lucky Spool Media are giving 1 Happy Quilting Reader their own copy of Scraps, Inc. Vol 1 .  Oh yes, I am not the only one that is going to start turning their scraps into gorgeous finished quilts!!

For a chance to win, simply leave a comment below telling me what is your favorite way to sort your scraps??  Color, Size, Both, ect.

All entries are welcome and please, one comment per person.  The giveaway will be open until Saturday the 28th and I will announce a winner on Sunday morning ;)

  1. Thanks for the chance to win! I've really been wanting to get this book. Right now all my scraps are crammed in one overflowing drawer! Not good! I'll have to organize them soon!

  2. I sort by project. I keep the scraps from each project in their own ziplock bag. As I generally know what fabrics I used in a certain quilt I know what colors I used so know exactly which bag I need to pull from. I also will sew HST's s I go and just toss them into a container until I have enough to make some squares.

    ReplyDelete
  3. I cut my scraps (anything smaller than a fat 8th) into squares (10", 5", 3.5", 2.5", and 2") and 2.5" strips. All of the squares are sorted by color, except for the 2" ones, which are set aside for use in a postage stamp quilt. I also open any charm packs or mini charm packs I buy and divide them up by color, mixing them with my cut squares. I don't have as many strips, so they are just stacked together. Everything is kept in plastic bins. I may be a teensy bit OCD, but then I am a librarian, so I do like to sort things! :-)

  4. I sort my scraps by color. For me this is the best way to keep my scraps. And sometimes I sort my scraps by project. I keep in plastic bags leftovers from some projects.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I sort all my scraps by color. I tried the pre-cut and sort by size but I found my scraps were never cut to the size I wanted. This looks like a great book!

    ReplyDelete
  6. I sort my scraps by size. My stash is sorted by color. I do have two bins stuffed with scraps that I need to cut down, lol. Love these scrappy quilts.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I sort my scraps mostly by color. I do keep companion prints together.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Hmmm. Goal or reality? Goal = sorted by color and sorta size, ie, very small Vs. up to 10 inches. Reality? One big bin waiting to be sorted.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You are supposed to sort scraps??? Currently anything from a fat quarter down is sorted by color in bins. Then little leftovers that are too small for the bin go into a mixed bucket. I use that when paper piecing, and just need a little something.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I started out sorting by color, then I add some size bins for 2.5" and 1.5" strips, now it's mostly a mess near my cutting table!
Thanks for the giveaway, the book looks fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Shapes and then at least the 2 1/2 strips by color

    ReplyDelete
  12. I sort them by color for now. Don't have a huge supply since I"m new to quilting but after seeing the great quilts made with scraps, I will save every little bit so I can someday make one of these lovely quilts!

    ReplyDelete
  13. By color, although I don't have many at this point, I just started quilting

    ReplyDelete
  14. I sort by color in baggies -- and toss them all into a big bin. Putting them in gallon-sized bags forces me to use them before the bags get too full to close!

    ReplyDelete
  15. I sort large pieces of fabric in Rubbermaid tubs by color. Smaller pieces are randomly thrown into small containers. Not much of a system! Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I haven't even begun to sort my scraps. They are all still sorted by project. I like the plastic bin idea to sort. Now I just need more space!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm seriously space challenged, so I recently started paring down my scraps according to size. It is so much more manageable for me this way.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I sort by color only... and I only keep fabric scraps that are larger then 2 in. Have to have some sort of control:) ha ha!!!! Not really!!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. At the moment mine are just in a pile but I am planning to buy some boxes and sort them by colour. Thanks for the chance. sru60@aol.com

  20. I sort my scraps by color. I love making "free" quilts totally from scraps! It makes me feel so frugal!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. have my fabric sorted by color or theme but everything is all together... Be it small pieces or yardage.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I sort by color. Would love to have this book. Thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I sort by size, in little bins. One set for squares and one set for strips.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I absolutely LOVE everything I've seen from this book, & would love to win a copy!!! I haven't sorted my scraps yet, but I will probably sort by color, using a rolling cart with draws. But that could change...

    ReplyDelete
  25. I am a fairly new quilter and not sure what to keep and what to throw. Any help in that area would be great. There is waste in quilting and I am having a hard time wrapping my head around that. I just need help everywhere. This book would be a great place to start.

    ReplyDelete
  26. i used to sort by color but now I try to cut them into strips or squares.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I just started quilting last year so I don't have a huge collection...yet. For now mine are in a tote because I am not sure how/what to store them in, but I love the way that you sort yours. I think I might have to try that!! Thanks for the chance to win!! slheaton85(at)Hotmail(dot)com

  28. I sort by color in clear plastic bags

    ReplyDelete
  29. For me, I sort by color and size. Bigger pieces go in different area of my sewing room.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Well . . . . IF my scraps were sorted properly (it's not a REQUIREMENT, right?), I would stash them by shape and color.

But that's a pretty big IF.

    Thanks for the giveaway!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I cut my tiny scraps into 2 inch squares and 1 inch strings. If they're a little more large, I sort by color into small fabric bins. I love using my scraps!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I have them both ways - I'm sorting the large tubs of scraps by color but I'm trying to cut small strips of leftovers into standard sizes while I'm working (2 1/2, 1 1/2, 2 and 3 1/2 inches wide)

    ReplyDelete
  33. HI, I sort by hue and by fabric type! Love quilting! Love your Blog!
    Thanks for sharing!

  34. I have two big, big, BIG bins of unsorted scraps. But, I guess they are sorted in a way since I just toss in the scraps from each finished project so all of the scraps are together by projects! I will be sorting these by color in the near future after seeing the color bundles on the cover of Scraps Inc. book. Great giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I separate with size and use clear ziploc bags.

  36. I separate with size and use clear ziploc bags.

  37. Definitely by color! What other way is there ? :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. My scraps are sorted into white IKEA mesh tastemakers that live on top of the IKEA cube units holding my yardage and books.I have easy access and since I use a lot of scraps it does not collect dust. Yeaaa for scraps!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Sorting? What's that? I'm a mess to be perfectly honest. I've got good intentions though. I'm collecting now in bins, but I need to start organizing so I can use them. Thanks for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I cut my scraps as I have them, so if I can get some squares or strips or whatever from my scraps, I cut them on the spot and then put them in drawers by size. I have squares from 2" up to 6" with 1/2" sizes in-between. I like 2 1/2" or 1 1/2" strips. Those I "hang" over the edge of a very large vase so half hangs inside the vase and half outside. All my squares and strips are sub-sorted by color.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I sort by color, with strings & selvedges each getting their own bin.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I store them by color and would love to win this book!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Most of my fabrics are sorted by color into large bins, with small recycled produce containers for the scraps. I keep African fabrics separate in their own bin.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I sort by color...a bin for each color. Within each bin I have a bag for strips, to keep those separate. I also have a bin for charm squares, and one for layer cake squares. I keep selvages in jars, and if I have scraps all from one particular line after making a quilt, I like to keep those together. :) Love reading all these comments! Great ideas!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I have my scrapes sorted by size, then put like colors together. I usually cut scrapes into useable sizes and get rid of the stuff that I am not likely to use. That helps keep me organized and the scrapes are ready for a quick project.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I sort my scraps by color, but would like to have them cut to sizes and organized...probably just a dream!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Right now I am not sorting my scraps I throw them all into one basket. But I know at some point I'm going to have to sort through all of them. Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I love working with scraps! I sort mine by colour.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Right now my scraps are sorted by color, we will see how that works out when I start my 1st scrap quilt later this year. lol

  50. I've just been accumulating leftover bits of fabric from several quilting projects (scraps) so any suggestion about sorting them is appreciated. Bins for similar sizes seems good because I do like the pictures of the scrappy quilts in this post. Thanks for a chance in the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I currently sort by color/collection. This book looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I had started a sort by size but now think that sort would be a better option. Thank you for a great giveaway. Looks like an amazing book to have.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I do both. My bigger scraps are in strips and the smaller and weird shapes are color sorted. I think that looks like an amazing book. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  54. Well, I am not great at sorting...they just get piled, but I should do it by size/color! Great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I haven't been quilting long and have a very small scrap stash but I do a little bit of everything. I have a container where I will cut 2.5" squares, 1" hexies, and 5" squares. I sort mostly everything else by color but I also have a section for "snippets" and a "strings"

    ReplyDelete
  56. I sort by color and size. I keep them organized by my cutting table. This book looks great. Thanks for the chance to win a copy.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I sort my scrap fabric by size. I would so enjoy this book. Thank you for the giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I've been sorting mine via size, but I love your idea with the colors in the drawers.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I don't really have a good way to sort scraps but I like your idea using the drawers to sort by color. Thanks for the chance to win - I love the Fire Whirl quilt!

    ReplyDelete
  60. I sort by color. I love the idea of "planned" scrappiness! I need this book!

    ReplyDelete
  61. My scraps go into a bag, when it gets full I look through it for anything I want to save. Those go into another bag. I could use a good sorting but I'd rather be sewing!
    Thanks for the great giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I sort anything bigger than 2" by colour but all the tiny scraps are in one tote together. I love scrappy quilts!

    ReplyDelete
  63. "We Create scraps like bunnies..." LOL Melissa - I had to wipe up the tea I just spilled. Too Funny!
Well so far I have been sorting scraps by Type - meaning the more modern scraps go in one bin, the historical repro types go in another (I cut those into hexies or tumblers as I go) and the soft and romantic fabrics go in another, then the low volume bin is just beginning... well you get the idea.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I have been sorting by size. But, I think it would be better to sort by color. So, it looks like I have some work ahead of me.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Ummm, sort scraps? What's that? Lol they are just in a HUGE pile. I keep saying I just need to take a day a sort. It would be by color, IF it ever happens. Hmm, maybe I can con a kiddo to do it for me. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  66. I sort by size and color when my scrap bin gets full.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I sort for the next project...so I guess both. Size and colour : )

    ReplyDelete
  68. I am just beginning to get enough scraps to think about some kind of system. So far I have saved all pieces left over from a project in a plastic bag and then into a large bin. Not sure about what to do from there. I'm very short on space. Maybe stack large bins sorted by color beside my bed. I love the looks of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I just sorted out my scraps by color too....

    ReplyDelete
  70. So far I've only sorted scraps by batiks, prints, and neutrals. I'm amazed at how many people do more! I know I need to but I actually do use my scraps this way so whatever. Works for me!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I sort by color and keep 5" squares separate.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I sort my biggest pieces out into one bin, and everything else is sorted by color.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Oh my I barely have time to get my scraps in a bin, let alone sorting!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Im ashamed to say that I dont sort them qt all. I just stuff then into a bag :/ I love the look of this book though!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I sort them by size and then when I decide to use them I sort by color!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oh my gosh! I didn't know I was supposed to sort my scraps! :) Now I need this book so I can actually use all my scraps!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I sort my scraps by color, except my 2 1/2" strips all go in one bin -- well, two now. I really need to get going on some scrap quilts.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I sort by colour and then size. Thanks for sharing

    ReplyDelete
  79. I tried to sort by color, but it's more efficient for me to sort by size.

My mom sorts by color. If I won this book, I'd save it for her birthday. We trade our stashes back and forth.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Mostly by color. Although I do have some bins with strips by size. :)

    ReplyDelete
  81. I sort by size (but looking at the book cover I think it should be by colour!)
    fabricstasher24@gmail.com

    ReplyDelete
  82. I sort by color until they get really small. Then those precious little pieces go in my bits bin.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Size... but I keep my holiday scraps separate. I have a lot of Christmas scraps!

    ReplyDelete
  84. By color in bins, but also by size within the bins. Biggest cuts on the bottom, small on the top. Thanks for the giveaway :)

    ReplyDelete
  85. I sort my scraps by type. Strings are divided by brights, neutrals and everything else. The rest are sorted by size.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I sort by size strips and squares. When I get ready to do a project, I pull the size and then sort by color. Thanks for the chance to get such a nice scrappy book!

    ReplyDelete
  87. I sort random scraps by color in bins like yours, but bigger. I keep project scraps together in ziploc bags and stack them in different bins. I love scraps, most of my projects are scrappy!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Mine are mostly in one box and lots of ziploc bags. My strings are kept separate. Unfortunately, there is no real order to any of it. I should probably do that ;) Thanks for the chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I use a combination of color and size/shape in my sorting. Since I use a lot of blue and green, I have two separate bins for those two colors. Then, I have a bin for strips, and a bin for all the scraps that are neither strips, nor blue, nor green. Kinda weird, I know. It'll probably change again, too.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Typically I toss all my useable scraps in a basket and the rest goes in a plastic bag to use as stuffing for dog beds. I go through the basket occasionally and cut squares out of the scraps. I love your method of using the plastic bin storage caddy. I currently have one of those and I have been trying to figure out what to do with it since I bought some new stash storage furniture :) Your idea is perfect. Thanks :) And thanks for a chance at the giveaway :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. this looks like such a fun book. thanks for this chance. I have see through plastic boxes with that I stack on top of each other. some are labeled for size already cut, some are labeled with color. I actually have two stacks. 1) regular cotton and 2) civil war fabrics

  92. I sort by color and shape. I have one bin for 2" squares and one for 1 1/2" squares. Leaders and enders for postage stamp quilts I hope to finish by 2020. haha. Everything else is sorted by color.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I sort smaller pieces by size, and the larger pieces I sort by color. Thanks for the chance to win.

    ReplyDelete
  94. I sort by color and by size of the scrap fabric. I have my bags of 21/2 sq and 2 inch sq

  95. By colour for me. Thanks for the chance!

  96. I sort by color. This books looks fabulous. Thanks for the giveaway chance.

    ReplyDelete
  97. i sort my scraps by color into shoeboxes that i keep in an old
dresser. i know its time to sew something when i cant shut the drawer! i love sewing with scraps the best.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I currently sort my scraps by size/shape, but that's just for the ones I have trimmed down and ready to go. The rest (larger than 4" or so) are kind of a mess! I've been wanting to get my hands on this book, and it sounds like it would inspire me to tackle the remnants.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I sort by color, and I have 3 or 4 scrap quilts in progress at one time.

    ReplyDelete
  100. i sort by color right now but may change it up as i get more and more

    ReplyDelete
  101. I've been sorting them by size. That way if I want to make a scrappy quilt and I need 2" strips, I have them sorted. That's usually what you would do with scraps anyway - scrappy projects.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I don't have very many scraps yet but if I did sort them I would do them by color. I've wanted this book since I first heard about it!

  104. i use one gallon freezer bag per project

    ReplyDelete
  105. Right now my only reliable sorting method is for 2.5 inch strips, and then all other scraps go into big bins or rattan baskets. Horrible, I know. The plan is to sort by color, next, as soon as I settle on a sorting container--I want some kind of cabinet that has translucent drawers that can be pulled out, so I can see the colors and then carry the individual drawer with me when I want to work with it. I had an entirely different plan, then we adopted a puppy who it seems will never outgrow his love for chewing on my scraps. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I sort charms out first. Then I sort Christmas prints out. Then I sort by color.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I have a plastic bag for each color. I have odd sizes and shapes because I use scraps for paper piecing so size would not be very practical for me. Thanks for the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Currently all of my scraps are cut into either 5" squares or, more often, 4" squares. They were taking over for so long I just had to bust what didn't make those cuts into the trash. I felt guilty, but at the same time it feels so freeing! My trouble now is when other people offload their scraps onto me and I ahve to spend so much time getting them to those sizes. I don't even like some of their fabrics but I keep them anyway! UGH!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Some scraps are sorted by color, these are generally untrimmed. Others are sorted by size (1 12" squares, 2" squares, 2 1/2" squares, 3" squares, etc..1 1/2" strips, 2" strips, etc.). Of the size sorted ones I also have them separated into 30s, Civil War, batiks with the rest of the fabric types together.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Oh man, my answer is terrible! No sorting! I have dreams of making cute little quilted boxes for each color, but that would require more space than our apartment affords. For now, all scraps are folded and mixed together in three square boxes on the bookshelf.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Most of my scraps are sorted by color in plastic buckets that are the same color as the scraps. If there is enough to fold, they are stored in rows by color, in a covered rectangular plastic container, approximately 24" x 5". Thanks for the giveaway opportunity. lv2bquilting2@comcast.net

  112. I always sort by size, then when I get to a project I sort by color.

    ReplyDelete
  113. An overflowing unsorted basket. I would love to win the book.

    ReplyDelete
  114. I sort by size. This book looks so fun, thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  115. I just spent all day Sunday working through all my scraps. I sort them by size. I cut 2.5" strips, saving them all up for a scrappy trip around the world quilt, and I cut the rest into 2.5" squares. I have them in plastic drawers also. Guess now I could go back and sort them by color!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  116. I wish I had a favorite way to sort. I just have a couple bins that I put the scraps in and dig through when needed. Not very organized!

    ReplyDelete
  117. Well, I don't know that I really have a System. But, I've started cutting one or two strips (2.5") and a few charm squares from my project left overs. I'm keeping them in a couple of small baskets at this time. I'm also sewing scrap triangles together as HST... I don't have any color organization yet. I believe I could really benefit by the Scraps, Inc. book. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I make my bigger scraps into strips and squares. The small pieces are tossed into one container.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I don't have a system right now, just a location. I have thought about cutting them to a common size but haven't moved in that direction yet. This book would make a great addition to my library.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I have my scraps by size of strips and squares in several plastic shoe boxes.

    ReplyDelete
  121. I sort my scraps by color, mostly.

    ReplyDelete
  122. I tend to keep scraps organized in part by the projects from which they came. Beyond that, I have a laundry basket of scraps of all sorts of sizes, shapes, and colors. Have charms and charm-sized fabrics somewhat organized by color, strips are just all together. Slowly, as I make a point of cutting up my scraps into strips or rough squares, they are getting more organized, but there will always be a bunch that are just . . . scraps.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I like to cut my scraps into 5" and 2.5" squares. I also sort them by color. thanks for the giveaway!

    ReplyDelete
  124. I sort by color. My really little scraps just get tossed on a bin.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I sort by colour only - anything smaller than a FQ is straight into the scraps. I've not made a scrap quilt yet, maybe this book will bring me some ideas!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Mine are sorted by size and then when I make a quilt , I pull them out to use according to value (light/medium/dark). Would love this book!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Man, I could sure use this book. I was just lamenting at our quilt guild charity sew day on the weekend that I used to have no scraps and now I am TOTALLY overrun with scraps and need to start doing something with them (my whole condominium is only 535 sq feet -- sewing room is very small). I'd love this. I sort by kind (strips, squares, etc.) in each separate size (2" strips, 2-1/2" strips), then by length -- short, medium long. I'm not sure it's the best way :-( but I have to re-think and tackle.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I sort by size, 2.5 inch strips and squares, smaller strips. Everything else stays in the coloir coded stash box.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I cut my scraps to the sizes I use most - 1.5", 2", and 2.5". Anything larger gets wrapped around a strip of comic book card and placed in a plastic container.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I keep my scraps by design line, and random scraps are kept on a large bin. I REALLY need to take the time to create a better system. Now to find the time.....

    ReplyDelete
  131. I sort several ways, for specific size shapes (2.5 in squares, strips under 2 in wide) I put all together no matter the color, for bigger pieces I sort by color!

  132. Thank you for the chance to win an awesome book. I sort by size. When I finish a project, I cut the remainder of the fabric in squares and strips according to what I can get from it.It ranges from 1 1/2 inch to 3 1/2 inch squares and strips that are any size. Then I have a good selection to start a new project.

  134. Right now I'm sorting my scraps by strip or square size. that way I can go to the box marked 2" and find 2 and 2.5 in strips or squares. It's a work in progress, and may change as time goes on. :-) Great looking book!!! Thanks for hosting the give away!! Hugs, H

  135. Oh gosh! I wish my scraps were as organized as your pictures are. Right now I've got them in color bins & drawers
in Color Families. And some of my scraps started out by Size but that didn't last, I'm not that organized. So I will stick to the color plan and cut the size I need. I DO have a bunch of selvages All together & in 1 place!

  136. Hi there Melissa,
I always sort my lovely scraps by colour…in…omg…clear plastic bags!!! I recently bought 16 lidded shoe box-sized clear plastic bins from a dollar store(actually, our dollar stores are really $1.25 stores…oh well…) and have plans to transfer them out of the plastic bags, but my kitchen table is crammed with quilting stuff…and my new-to-me vintage Singer(1948)!
    Thanks!
    Quilty Huggs,
    Jacqueline

  138. I don't sort as of yet. I just recently start quilting and have been kind of just stashing the extra bits in a box for now. I know that won;t last much longer :) I do love the chance to win this book, but I can see myself buying the fabric to make the quilts. ( and making more scraps.) Thanks!!

  142. when I have scraps I do the following: I cut it to the largest square I can. if a strip is 12" or longer then it goes with the other strips. I keep 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 and 5" squares. they are divided into lights and darks. I keep the same size strips. I make very scrappy quilts. lots of different colors. I so enjoy your scrap Tuesdays! and please put my name in the hat! sounds like I need this book!!!

  163. OMG I don't sort, URGH, the best I have done is these huge hat boxes that I have one set aside for fabrics I haven't used in my Farmer's Daughter quilt. and then the rest is a total disaster area. Size never made sense to me but COLOR!! now that makes sense. My new sorting method.... will start soon :)

  167. I have just recently cut and sorted my scraps into bins of 2 inch squares and strips, 2.5 inch squares and strips, 3.5 inch squares and strips and 5 inch squares and strips, strings (less than 2 inches in width) and finally crumbs (all those itty bitty pieces you can't bear to throw away). I am now sooooo inspired to make scraps quilts... this book will be a very welcome addition indeed.

  168. I sort by size of fabrics, themes, colors and solids. I also jelly roll many fabrics and they are stored in grocery paper bags that have the tops rolled down. If the bags tear - duct tape to the rescue. They stack and store easily.

I have been storing my scraps by color in the wire mesh slide-out bins in my closet, but just recently I started spending a ton of time cutting things into various widths of usable strips and storing them in see-through plastic tubs. I think this will help me actually use my stash! This book would also be a tremendous help! Thanks for the chance! s.ites@yahoo.com
