Last week, I realized that my Artista (Abby) Sewing Machine was long overdue for it's annual maintenance and it was making a funny noise so I figured I best take it in. So I packed it up (a little begrudgingly, because its hard to go back to Bernadette as she isn't quite as reliable or fast) and my husband and I headed down to St. George to take it in for service. On the way there, my husband just casually remarked "For all the sewing you do, you really should have a second machine that is just as reliable as the first." And I, being a little surprised, just smiled and said, "That would be nice indeed". And a couple hours later I was walking out of the Bernina Quilt Shop with this little lady :)
I figured my sweethearts comment would simmer and maybe something would happen for Christmas . . . but it was just one of things where everything worked out. We walked into the shop to drop off my machine for maintenance, and they just happened to have a traded in Aurora 440. Which was the other machine I was totally looking at when I got my Artista, and of course, my husband remembered that. He just smiled and said "Call it an Early Mother's Day Present ;)" Yes indeed, I sure do love that man of mine and am so very blessed to have him!!!!!!
And I am absolutely loving this new machine!!!! No surprise that is quickly become my main machine and my Abby is now my back-up machine :) It is faster, and quieter, and all together just awesome!!! I have been heads down sewing like a crazy person all weekend and loving every minute of it :) And it comes with the embroidery unit and I can take classes at the shop on how to use it, so maybe I will finally figure out how to do that little awesome bonus on this machine!!
Oh, and in case you are wondering, I figure she already has a name so no need to come up with a new one. I am just so excited to welcome Aurora to the family!!!!!
Hope you are having a very Happy Quilting Day!!! I'm off for some more chain stitching goodness :)
I have had this machine for 11 years and I love it!
ReplyDeleteGood for you. That is truly great news! Enjoy your new friend!! :)
ReplyDeleteGreen with envy here. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteWhat a treat. I can't believe he remembered.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Aren't we lucky to have good husbands who really notice these things! Not all men are like that. I'm one of the lucky ones, too. So happy for you!
ReplyDeleteOh, he is a keeper for sure!! Mine is much the same way, indulging me for no reason other than he wants to.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you - you deserve it! Enjoy :)!!
ReplyDeleteHas he got a brother,Ahh shucks I already have one of those. They don't trade in well.
ReplyDeleteHe's a keeper, all right!
ReplyDeleteI have the same machine minus the embroidery arm ( just couldn't afford it ) my back up is an older model Bernina that I love too because with the 30 mm stitch plate it does the best blanket stitch. I think that husband of yours is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! Also I received the Scrap Pkg today. Thanks again. Love the orange.
ReplyDeleteI bought the same one when it became apparent that my dear 1130 can't last forever. I love it!
ReplyDeletehow lucky to call at the shop when this had just become available, I am wanting the 550 model as I need a stitch regulator but it is just in my dream world. My walking foot came apart last week so no quilting can be done, service engineer off following a hip replacement and will not be back till june fingers crossed he can repair it then for me as a new one is £95
ReplyDeleteI have that machine and I love it! I'm not surprised that you're loving her already! And the love affair has just begun. And let's not forget that awesome hubby you have, he's definitely a keeper too! Don't you just love it when they're supportive of our hobbies/addictions?!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! I have a older 730 Bernina (same time frame as 440) and just love it. I have the embroidery unit as well.
ReplyDeleteI also have this machine and have recently begun to sew with it. The one thing I really love about this machine is the awesome foot pedal. Enjoy your new machine!
ReplyDeletebetter than a new car, just love it when our partners love to see us get so much enjoyment from our creative endeavours...enjoy your new machine and thanks for sharing your joy...
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome! Great hubby!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! Well deserved!
ReplyDeleteWhat a honey!
ReplyDeleteThis story warmed my heart! What a blessing!
ReplyDeleteI bought one of these used, as a major splurge, when I realized that quilting was turning into much more than a fleeting hobby. It really is a very well-made, reliable machine whose stitch quality can keep pace with newer and more expensive models.
ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike! My Bernina (a 550QE) is named Bernadette too. I've been thinking of getting a better back-up, because my current backup is a 1974 Kenmore, and it is pretty slow and basic. But then Bernadette's spa stays are short (annual, but short), so I never do.....
ReplyDeleteSo lucky! I think your husband should have a talk with my husband... 😂
