  68. My favorite folk tale was always an obscure one, told to me by my German babysitter Frieda. My mom had to look through our encyclopedia--that is so typical of my mom that I laugh, thinking about it now--to find it. It is the one about a wolf that ate all of the pigs? goats? then fell asleep by the river. Someone cut him open and filled him with rocks then sutured his belly closed (I came from a medical family, so I was fine with that) and when he leaned over the river to get a drink of water after he woke up, the weight of the rocks pulled him into the river and he drowned. Isn't that awful?? And it was my favorite story. I cannot even imagine why--there is not a single component to that that seems pleasant, except that I remember the little goats came dancing out of his belly, as if they were emerging from a dark closet (which is also weird). Why Frieda would tell me that is beyond me.

  102. I have no idea what this story was called, but it was about a man who thought that his wife had an easy job, staying home to look after the baby and clean the house, while he went to work - so she suggested switching roles for the day. Of course, we all know that the wife's job was FAR more complex than that, and the husband willingly went back to his job the next day!
