  19. Oh my goodness, thousands of bolts and only $25. This will be a fun trip through fabric.
    I have had a lot of favorite costumes over the years. One year the two kids wanted to be M&M's I think they were trying to stump me because every year I made their costumes. Well I took that as a challenge. Our son was a brown M&M and our daughter was a red M&M. I did it and they looked just too cute. quilting dash lady at comcast dot net

  30. At least 25 years ago, I made myself a raggedy Ann costume. I even went to the trouble of dying a floor mop red for my hair. I still have it today, and plan to wear it this weekend.

  58. I made a great princess costume one year for myself (but of course, I can't fit into it now!!) But reading one of your readers comments, I also made an M&M costume for my daughter: it turned out pretty cute! But of course, my younger daughter wouldn't wear it when it came to her turn! :-) My favorite costume that I made was a cinderella costume for my daughter, complete with a fur collared cape. They wore that one for years for dress up! Hugs, H

  63. My sister made me a pumpkin costume. She used wire to make the pumpkin round. But she forgot to make an opening for my arms - so, it was a little hard to try and carry my bag and get candy. She meant well - but at the time, I wasn't so sure.

  66. A few years ago at the elementary school where I work, all the teachers and staff made M&M costumes and wore them for the students. It was such fun to see their faces when they saw all of us.

  72. The costumes from my childhood were less than memorable, but my children loved the costumes I made for them. My daughter was a shark when she was 5 and my son was the sorcerer's apprentice when he was 4. They were great costumes and they have happy memories of those Halloweens.

  77. I made dinosaur costumes for my two boys one year. The next year I did child care after school. The costumes fit two of the kids, so they would put them on and chase each other, roaring and grrrr-ing, playing in the front yard. The neighbors would get a kick out of watching them play. The costumes were the gift that kept on giving, so to speak.

  93. My favorite Halloween costume was one that I made for my son when he was small. It was a robot costume made with a box that slipped over his head and had holes cut out for his arms. It was covered with foil and his arms were covered with silver dryer vent hose. He was so cute in it. Thanks!

  102. My mom made a clown costume for me when I was a little girl. The fabric is white with little red hearts and it has big red pom poms down the front and red ric rac trim. It has held up so well, my grandkids will be able to dress up in it if they want to.

When you are low on specific colors (they have them sorted that way), or you need fat quarters and/or scraps (that is a category, too)....all is set up that way.   107. My favourite Halloween costume was one that I made for my 18 month old son - took a big box, cut openings in it for his head and arms. Popped it on, and then wrapped it up like a gift, complete with bow on his head. He was (and still is) a real gift!

  108. I don't think I ever had a bought costume. As a kid, we always figured out something homemade. Telling my age, but I honestly can't remember much other than a ghost.
    One of my favs for my grandson was when he dressed up as a hotdog. It was pretty funny.

  115. One time I dressed in my dad oshkosh by gosh overalls and then had to find a flannel shirt and stuff the whole thing so it wouldn't fall off. I loved it. I must have been in highschool because i went to the place where my dad often filled up the car with gas. I remember getting some pretty crazy looks. :)

  133. Nearly 35 years ago I made Crayola Crayon costumes for my 5 and 6 year old children. They looked wonderful! I misplaced the pattern before I had grandchildren so I could not recreate the costume for them.

  138. In the 70s the best costume was a hippie!!! When my kids were growing up I made LOTS of costumes---Batman and Robin, the Indian in the Cupboard, Hercules, Darth Vader, all FOUR Power Rangers, Link from Zelda, the list goes on!
