Summer Slice Quilt and Tutorial!!!

I am so thrilled to be sharing my newest finish today as well as a new AccuQuilt Tutorial for it.    It's called Summer Slice, and it is just so happy making!!!   I have been sharing sneak peeks of this for the last little bit, so here it is, the full reveal of my Summer Slice quilt!!!

I just love this quilt.  I know, I say that all the time, but I am always just thrilled when the idea in my head comes out even better than I imagined.  I had so much fun playing with different orientations of this block, the possibilities are endless.  When I got to a design I liked, I was reminded or orange slices and pineapple wedges . . .hence the colors of Rainbow Sherbet.  And I am so happy with it, because the colors just give it that summer by the pool side vibe :)

And super bonus, this quilt is made of scraps!!!  Don't you just love a good scrap buster :)  And the Slice pieces are big enough that they aren't just busting the tiny little baby scraps, I actually made a little dent in my scrap drawers ;)    I used the GO! Grandmother's Fan Die for cutting the curved pieces for the quilt and then I used the GO! Strip Cutter 1 1/2"  to cut the background scraps into strips for the sashing.  Yippee for using up all the scraps :)

And I just love that the GO! Grandmother's Fan Die has those little notches on all the curves!!  It makes it super easy to align and sew them!!!! A great way to get started on curves if you have never given them a try before :)  I just love that I can bust through my scraps in no time, and get easy, super accurate curved cutting, which leads to super accurate curved piecing :)  And before you know it, you have a beautiful 81" x 81" Summer Slice Quilt ready to take on a summer picnic!!!

When it came time to quilt I decided I really wanted to add to the "slice" feel of each of those wedges :)  So I rotated between wishbone (which kind of looks like seeds) and wavy lines to give it lots of texture.   Then in the background I did all over curls as they were small enough to do down the small sashing. I just love the texture it added to the quilt and it really made the slices pop :)

And that is my Summer Slice Quilt!!!  And I hope you love it as much as I do ;)   If you want to make your own Summer Slice Quilt grab your GO! Grandmother's Fan Die and check out the free step by step tutorial!!!     And when you are done, I would love to see it!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or post it to social media with #happyquiltingwithmc and #AccuQuilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Summer Slice Quilts!!!

Thanks for joining me today and sharing this new quilt and tutorial with me ;)   I tell you what, I just love curved piecing!!!!  I hope you find you love it as well!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

**Note** Many of you have asked about making this quilt with templates.  I made a similar quilt years ago for Moda using templates from Laundry Basket Quilts  .   The templates are not the exact same size but would work for the design.   Just FYI :)

  3. I really love your beautiful Summer Slice Quilt! It reminds me of jelly slices and life savers and looks really yummy! I've always loved Grandma's Fans and Dresden Plates and even though I don't own an Accuquilt cutter, this has me wanting to make a similar quilt for myself. Thank you for the inspiration!
