Today is our third new pattern day and it is all about . . . Summer Solstice!!! This quilt design was inspired by the sunshine meets a sundial. I just kept playing with the shapes and angles until I found this awesome design!! And you know I just love the chain. So great!!! And of course, if it is all sunshine, then I had to do it in happy yellow's!!!
Summer Solstice is an intermediate skill level pattern. The quilt is made of two separate blocks and then pieced in a alternating layout with a pieced sashing to create the outer dial and chain. The pattern teaches techniques including no waste flying geese, half square triangles, and stitch and flip corners. It is a wonderful quilt to show off a lot of negative space as well, so you can have some fun with your background fabric ;)
- But, just in case you want to make it just like mine . . . ya know, if you love grunge every bit as much as I do . . . here are the grunge fabrics I used ;)
For the Binding Fabric - Grunge Basics Ginger Ale 30150 448
And for the blocks I used the following 12 Grunge Fat Quarters:
Grunge Basics Chiffon 30150 15 Grunge Basics Elafin 30150 115
Grunge Basics Lemon Grass 30150 92 Grunge Basics Moutarde 30150 273
Grunge Basics Sunflower 30150 281 Grunge Basics Mustard 30150 282
Grunge Basics Lemon Drop 30150 321 Grunge Basics Butterscotch 30150 421
Grunge Basics Curry 30150 447 Grunge Basics Peachy 30150 449
Grunge Basics Cobbler 30150 543 Grunge Basics Mulled Cider 30150 545
And wheras this quilt has a lot of negative space, I really wanted to make sure the prints didn't get lost!! So I stitched in the ditch around the prints, and then quilted small swirls in the background. I just love how it makes each of those yellow print pieces just pop!! Isn't it just so fun :) And of course, lots and lots of yummy quilt texture!!!
And that is my new Summer Solstice quilt and Pattern!!! And I am just so happy to share it with all of you!!! OH MY!!! GRUNGE and a gorgeous pattern. Look at the swirls. They remind me of windy days and fit perfectly with the sunshine and sundial theme. VERY NICE!! I like how you listed all the Grunge colors and numbers for this quilt. Makes finding the fabric a breeze!
