Let's start sharing these new quilts for my 4 new Happy Quilting Patterns!!! Today is all about Sweater Weather!!! This quilt was inspired by a winter sweater that I had when I was a little girl. Once the first snow fell, I wanted to wear it every single day! So I made it into a quilt so now I can snuggle in it every day ;) And isn't it just so great with the combination of a Snowflake Block and a Heart Block that makes an beautiful secondary chain design. I just love it!!!
Sweater Weather is an experience beginner skill level pattern, and regardless of your skill level, you will love making this quilt! The quilt is made of two separate blocks and then pieced in a alternating layout with a small sashing. The pattern teaches techniques including strip piecing, stitch and flip corners that have nested diagonal seams and lots of tiny patchwork in that chain. And because the piecing of everything else beyond the chain is pretty large, the quilt blocks come together pretty quick!
- But, just in case you want to make it just like mine . . . ya know, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!! And this is actually the second time I have made this quilt and they both look the exact same (more on that later). Anyhow, . . . here are the grunge fabrics I used ;)
For the Accent Fabric - Grunge Basics Peacoat 30150 353 (the hearts and binding)
And for the blocks I used the following 16 Grunge Fat Quarters:
- Grunge Basics Sky 30150 218 Grunge Basics Sapphire 30150 221
Grunge Basics Cobalt 30150 223 Grunge Basics Bright Sky 30150 299
Grunge Basics Royal 30150 300 Grunge Basics Sea 30150 301
Grunge Basics Horizon Blue 30150 306 Grunge Basics Prussian Blue 30150 307
Grunge Basics Powder Blue 30150 347 Grunge Basics Delft 30150 350
Grunge Basics Surf The Web 30150 351 Grunge Basics Regatta 30150 352
Grunge Basics Faded Denim 30150 387 Grunge Basics Crystal Sea 30150 480
Grunge Basics Harbor 30150 481 Grunge Basics Storm 30150 482
And when it came time to quilt this I opted for some fun custom quilting. I tried a new background filler of small loop de loops with tiny stars, that just happen to also look like snowflakes falling :) So cute!! For the snowflake blocks I quilted lots and lots of pebbles in a medium blue. That way it blended with all of the shades of blue. And finally, in the hearts, I quilted lines of wishbones, cause it reminded me of the knitting on the sweater ;) Its quilted in a super dark navy so it is hard to see, but a perfect blend!! And I left the small squares of the chain and snowflake blocks unquilted, just stitching in the ditch around them so they would really pop! It took me about 10 hours to quilt, but it was so worth it for the amazing beautiful finish and the wonderful snuggly texture :)

And one quick story before I sign off. I mentioned this is the second time I have made this quilt . . . well here is the first. Looks the exact same but different quilting. This quilt was supposed to be in a quilting magazine for winter 2024. But a year ago, I got an email with the craziest news. The quilt had been stolen from the publishers office. I know, crazy right!! The publishers looked into everything, but in the end, the quilt never turned up. A good friend told me you know you have really "made it" when a quilt of yours gets stolen . . . so I took that as the silver lining in the situation. I also decided right then and there that I needed to make this quilt again because it was just to pretty of a design to get forgotten. So it took a year . . . but here we are. And I am just so happy to be sharing this Sweater Weather quilt with all of you!!
Thanks for popping in today. Be sure to come back tomorrow for more Happy Quilting Pattern fun :)
I hope you all have a Happy Quilting Day!!!
