Handmade Holiday Banners and Tutorial!!!

This morning I am thrilled to be sharing my newest finish as well as a new  AccuQuilt Tutorial  as well!!!   I love decorating for the Holiday's and when AccuQuilt shared their brand new Pennant Die I knew that it would make the cutest banners.  And these banners all use Strip Piecing and Applique to really take them up a notch from your basic banners.  And here they are!!!

And since tomorrow is the 4th of July, let's share this super cute Bomb Pop Banner first!!  Isn't it just so fun.  By using the Curved Pennant die upside down, a little strip piecing, and adding a little ribbon, you totally get the look of a bomb Popsicle and how great is that for the 4th!!!    And then of course, a little applique Happy 4th in navy finishes it off just perfect :)

And before you know it, summer will be done and we will move into fall.   And sad to say, Halloween really isn't my favorite, but I do love the Candy Corns!!!   And by using the Traingle  Pennant die upside down, a little strip piecing, and adding a Halloween Applique, you totally get the look of a Halloween Candy Corns!!!   How cute is that :)   And I later thought, you could totally turn Traingle  Pennant die around for the look of Pie for Thanksgiving and make another fall inspired banner ;)

And finally, you all know I love playing with a rainbow of colors in my quilts, and I totally wanted to make a rainbow banner as well.   So I came up with this Spring Banner using the Angled  Pennant die, a little strip piecing, and then the fun Spring and Flower appliques.   And I just love the spring time rainbow, makes me want to breeze right through all the seasons to get back to Spring so I can hang this up ;)

And those are the three Holiday Banners I came up with, but of course, the sky is the limit!!  I loved using Strip Piecing to really make each banner pop.   And they are so fun and fast to make.  I made all 3 in a day!!!   Don't you just love being able to add a little Handmade to your Holiday decor :)

So if you want to make your own Handmade Holiday Banners just pop on over for the free step by step tutorial!!!    (And just FYI, a bunch of Accuquilt Dies are on Sale right now, including the Letter ones!!   And you can use code FIREWORK for free shipping all this week ;)   When you are done making your own Holidy Banners, I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com, post it to social media with #happyquiltingwithmc  and #AccuQuilt or add it to my flickr group here ;)  I can't wait to see your Holiday Banners!!!

Thanks for joining me today and sharing this new tutorial with me ;)   I had so much fun creating these Banners!!!  And the sky really is the limit of what banners you could create using the new Pennant Die .  I am thinking I might have to try that Pie one next :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day and for my friends in the USA a Happy 4th tomorrow!!!

Fave Quilts Spotlight

So, have you heard of FaveQuilts??  It is an absolutely wonderful resource.  I like to think of FaveQuilts as an amazing ( and huge) Quilting Library ;)  It is just like going to the library and looking for a good book, only this time, you are looking for the perfect tutorial or free pattern.    And today, they are featuring my patterns and that just is all kinds of sweet of them!!!

FaveQuilts.com

You can use the Categories on the left hand side of the main page to help you narrow your search.  And just like the library, you can search by type of quilt, size of quilt, designer of quilt (Yup, I have a designer profile there too ;)  and the list goes on.  Then when you find the quilt you like, Fave Quilts provides the link of where you can go directly to the creates site and find the project!!  I love that they send you to the creators site, it has helped me to discover some amazing new blogging friends!!!

And Fave Quilts is always posting articles that help you find awesome projects all grouped together by what type of projects they are.   For example, you can Pop Over Here to see an article on 24 Fat Quarter Quilts,  (and if you are like me, you have Fat Quarters stashed that could really use some Fat Quarter friendly tutorials ;)  Or over here is an article on 13 Wedding Quilt Patterns.  And some even have basic quilting info, like this one on What Size is a Lap Quilt and then several Lap Quilt Patterns attached.     And my Crossroads Quilt just might be featured in that article!!!

So here is a shout out to FaveQuilts!!  I so appreciate them spotlighting me today ;)  So, if you haven't checked them out before, you might want to just pop on over for a visit ;)  They have a little post here on how to get the most out of the sight, just FYI.   So enjoy the eye candy cause there is enough there to see for hours and it might just make  your "to make someday" list grow in spades ;)  Have fun!!!

Moda Love Quilt Finish x 2!!!

So clear back in March, I shared that I was joining in the Moda Love Sew Along and making two Moda Love Quilts.    I actually had these quilted and bound at the beginning of May, and they have just been sitting waiting for me to take pictures of them.   Why is life so crazy after school gets out?? (and yes, I know the answer to that, I just am constantly blown away by it ;)   So without further ado, here are my Moda Love Quilt finishes!!!

Ever since the Moda Love Pattern was first released I wanted to make one and I am so glad I made not one but 2!!!  This pattern is so much fun to make.   I think it will quickly become one of those "go to" patterns when you need a quilt fast.   This size is made with a  Layer Cake and it finishes at 72" square.   Perfect for those quick wedding or graduation gifts ;)

I made the first quilt Red, White, and Black so that I can donate it to my Alma Mater's :)   I have to say, I am so glad SUU's colors are Red, White, and Black.  It makes it so much easier to make lots of quilts in that classic color scheme!!     This quilt used fabrics from  Shades of Black by Me and My Sister Designs from 2013 (yes, It had been stashed for a little bit :)  as well as pieces from Authentic Ect. by Sweetwater .

And the second quilt essentially came to be because I had a few Green Squares, Solid White Squares,  and Grey Squares left over from those two lines.  You only need 1 Layer Cake per quilt, and I basically used half of each of the two lines to keep the color scheme.   I didn't want those leftovers to end up in the scrap buckets so 2 Moda Love Quilts it is.    And I just love it!!!!

When it came time to quilt them, I decided on all over  Loose Feathers for the first Moda Love.   This is really becoming a favorite design to quilt and I can't believe how I was so nervous to try it.   It is just so fun and relaxing to quilt.  Just goes to show, practice, practice, practice!    I used a red thread and I love how it just pops on that white star!!  So fun :)

And for the second Moda Love quilt, I played with some wavy lines.   Which means I got some exercise in because you are basically walking back and forth across the long arm for each line of stitching.   I used 4 colors of thread, grey, white, black, and lime green and alternated them in the rows.  I love the way it adds so much movement and depth to the quilt.

And those are my Moda Love x 2 quilts!!!  I really did have so much fun making these quilts and am happy that both will be given away super soon ;)   And I know this little  Moda Love Pattern will be pulled out again in the future.   It is such a fun and fast design and I just love it!!!

And if you want to try out the Moda Love Pattern and join in the Sew Along, you can download it for free right here.    The Pattern has 3 sets of instructions.   So you can make a big 72" square one like me using Layer Cakes, or make a 32" quilt using Charm Packs, or even a cute little mini finishing at 12" using Mini Charm Packs.   I want to make a Charm Pack one next, because we all know I have tons of those stacked up and all it needs is a border to be a perfect size for a new little baby :)

Thanks for popping in today and each and every day.   I am so very grateful that I have this little corner of the internet to share my love of quilting and all of you amazing friends to come along for the ride!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

June Sew Sampler Box!!!

June is quickly coming to a close, and that means another Sew Sampler Box reveal!!!  This month's theme was Be Our Guest, and everything about this box has me feeling like the Guest of Honor :)  Can I just say Wow, I love my little Aqua  Sew Sampler Box !!!   (and FYI, there is still a waiting list for membership, but I hear it turns over fast ;)

So let's get into the box!!!   We all know I love, love, love Charm Packs!!!  But to not only find a Strawberry Jam Charm Pack by Corey Yoder, but also a Walkabout Charm Pack by Sherri and Chelsi!!!   So excited :)   If you have followed my blog for any amount of time, you know that I use Corey's fabrics as well as Sherri and Chelsi's fabrics a whole lot.   And these ladies are also amazing friends!!!  Corey was in my very first Virtual Bee and Sherri and I teach at a lot of the same retreats in Utah.   So just all around happy about the fabrics this month!!!

And the notions this month, so fun!!  I just love this little Wool Pressing Mat :)  I have been using a Wool Pressing Mat for the last few months and I just love how well it holds the heat.  This little one is going to be perfect for pressing lots of small repetitive units and wonderful for traveling.   And I just saw a set of those Cleaning Brushes while teaching last month and thought, brilliant, I should get some of those.   And how great is it that they just show up in my box.   Love that!!!

And of course, we have another Goodness Grows block to go with June!!!  This month the block is called Stay Rooted and it is oh so cute :)   I just get so excited to see what each month's block is going to be.  This is such a fun little sampler and Corey's blocks are oh so adorable!!!

And that is my June  Sew Sampler box  :)    And just in case you missed it, I have planned a second Goodness Grows project, you can see more about it here ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
