Did You Get Them All - Free PDF's??

So over the last little bit, I have started to share a few Free PDF Patterns with my quilts instead of step by step tutorials.   So now I am wondering, what do you think??

Do you prefer the PDF with multiple size options or would you rather have a step by step tutorial??    (and I know, both is an awesome option, but time is a huge factor there :)    I have lots of technique step by step tutorials, so I thought maybe a  PDF with reference to the technique tutorials might be preferred.   Oh, and if you do like the Free PDF Patterns . . . I am debating about remaking some of my older, more popular tutorials into a Free PDF pattern as well . . .would you like that??   And if so, what older tutorials would you like to see done up in Free PDF Patterns??

Okay, and with all of that, I wanted to make sure that you didn't miss any of the Free PDF patterns :)

So here is a quick review of recently released Happy Quilting Free PDF Patterns.  Just click on the names of the quilts to be taken to the post about them where you can get the free PDF's :)

Did you see Cabin Among the Stars??

Cabin Among the Stars is an awesome scrap buster and combines two of my favorite blocks, a  Sawtooth Star and Log Cabin :)  It uses No Waste Flying Geese and there is a technique tutorial for it right here.

And how about  State Fair??

State Fair is Charm Pack Friendly and is a super quick and fun quilt to make!!!    It is made with Half Square Triangles and there is a technique tutorial for HST's right here.

And last but not least, I just released Moonstones, did you get it??

Moonstones is Fat Quarter Friendly and is a wonderful play on Sawtooth Stars that have curved centers!! It uses Modified Drunkards Path Units and there is a technique tutorial for them right here.

So did you get them all??   If you have any questions at all on the Happy Quilting Free PDF's don't hesitate to email me at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com :)

Crumb Quilts by Emily Bailey

My good friend Emily Bailey has just released a new book and I am so excited for her!!!   Her book is Crumb Quilts, Scrap Quilting the Zero Waste Way and it is just amazing :)   I mean, we all have Scraps, and they multiply like bunnies.  This is a great way to really bust through those scraps and make gorgeous quilts while you are at it!!

So the idea behind Crumb Quilts, is basically to sew together fabric from your bitty scraps, and then cut your pieces for your project from that new Scrappy fabric :)   It truly is a way to leave no scrap unsewn!!

This is the same method I used to make my End of the Rainbow Quilt that is on the cover of my Irish Chain Quilts book!!   I called it Crazy Patch Piecing (there is a tutorial for it right over here)  but I think Crumb Quilting for sure has a nicer ring to it!!

And Emily has taken her Crumb Fabric and made some amazing designs in this incredible  Crumb Quilts book!!!  I love this Twist and Shout quilt :)  Such a fun way to put the patchwork squares just dancing around the quilt, and it is just so fun to see all of those tiny scraps making a big square!!   You can really make some amazing memory quilts with these ;)  Every quilt will represent so many other quilts you have made and combine them all into one amazing project!!!

And Emily doesn't stop at just squares . . .  You will find crumb pieces of all shapes and sizes, including triangles, wedges, and even curves on the front cover!!   And then she took it one step further and did Crumb Applique!!!   Oh my goodness, I absolutely love this and it is so on my to make list.  I mean, how cute is Crumb Applique :)

So if you have scraps that are just overwhelming, (and come on, we pretty much all do :)  then Crumb Quilts is an awesome book for you!!!   I just love this idea of leaving no scrap behind and making new fabric from treasured pieces that were just sitting in a bucket.

Way to go Emily!!  You did an amazing job on your Crumb Quilts book and I can't wait to bust out my scraps and do some more Crumb Quilting!!!

I hope you are all having a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

Moonstones Quilt and Free PDF Pattern!!!

I am so very excited to share my newest finish, the Moonstones Quilt, along with the free Moonstones Quilt PDF Pattern  to go with it!!!!  I have had this fun Curved Star Design in my head for a long while and am thrilled to see it come to life.   I just love piecing curves, and this is a great quilt to start learning them if curves are brand new to you!!! It's perfect for beginners and experts alike :)

The Moonstones Quilt is made with Modified Drunkards Path Units and No Waste Flying Geese.   I love using my Modified Drunkards Path Templates to make cutting the curves a breeze!!   (yup, I made this pattern with the same size MDP Units as Nordic Nights so your templates will work for both!!)   And if you are new to curved piecing, or just need a refresher course, there is a step by step tutorial right here on cutting and sewing the curved units :)   So great!!!    Oh, and there is also a No Waste Flying Geese Step by Step tutorial as well :)

This Moonstones Quilt features the new Whimsical Romance  fabrics by Keera Job for Riley Blake Designs .   And they are the reason this quilt finally went from picture in my mind to quilt.  When I saw them, I knew they would be just perfect for this Moonstones Quilt and assigning myself a deadline date to post this quilt is what finally made it happen.  (please tell me I am not the only one that gets quilts done just in time for the deadlines)   I made the lap size quilt that uses 15 Fat Quarters, yup, this quilt is totally Fat Quarter Friendly!!   I just love these colors and prints, so pretty!!

I made the lap size quilt that uses 15 Fat Quarters, so I used 15 colored prints and am saving the 3 low volume prints for a future low volume project :)    I just love these colors and prints, so pretty!!   And all of the size options are Fat Quarter Friendly, making this a great project to grab a bundle and get cutting and piecing!!

When it came time to quilt it, I decided on my Wavy Peel design.   This is a perfect design for a quilt that is mostly a grid of squares so it makes it easy to stitch.  And I just love how much this design adds to the block, it really makes the centers just pop!!!  And of course, I used my favorite  402 So Fine  thread that blended perfectly into the background and on all the prints, yup, its my all time favorite color ;)

And doesn't it just create the most amazing texture!!!  Love it!!!

Then all I needed was a quick binding and Moonstones was done!!   And I just love it!!  Won't this make the prettiest wedding quilt :)      And now, it's your turn to make your own Moonstones Quilt!!!   Download the free Moonstones PDF Pattern,  grab your templates  and Fat Quarters and get cutting :)

And like I was saying, there are multiple size options in the PDF.   I made the Lap Size, but you can also make a Baby Size, Twin Size, Picnic Size, and a Queen/King Size.  All 5 size options are in the Moonstones Quilt PDF Pattern.   Here is the details of what you will need and the finished sizes for each of the 5 quilt options.

I hope you enjoy this free Moonstones Quilt PDF Pattern and that you make your own quilts!!!  And if you do, I would love to see them ;)   You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with the hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and #moonstonesquilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Moonstones Quilts!!!

**  Oh, and side note . . . make sure when you print your PDF that it is Actual Size and not Shrunk to Fit, that way your template prints at the right size.   There is a 1" box on the template page to double check it is printed correctly ;)

Thanks so much for popping in and sharing this finish with me.  If you have any questions at all on making your own, don't hesitate to email me at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!
