A Great Christmas and some Color Help Needed :)

We had such a wonderful Christmas.  The holiday was spent (and will continue to be spent) with lots of family, just the way I love it!!!  We are so happy to be back home and close to those we love.   For me families are what make Holidays so special.

So do you want to see some Quilting presents??  My amazing Mother In Law gave me this awesome trio!!!  A little pincushion / thread catcher basket, (which is so perfect because I keep trailing threads all over the house, oops ) a free motion design DVD by Leah Day, and some new quilting gloves!!!!!  Oh my goodness, I am so excited!!!  I can't wait to try out those new gloves and I think I will be watching the DVD before I go start quilting the next little quilt :)

My amazing Sister In Law designed this little stitch for me.  Isn't it just fabulous!!!  I love it!!!  It is being mounted on the wall next to my sewing machine today.  My Sister In Law and her mother have been making these types of stitches for years and they sell them at boutiques and such. They design all of the pictures, do the stitches and even make the frames.   They also have a great shop online called Live Well Stitches.  I just loved that she designed this for me :) Does my family know me or what?????

And here is where the Color Help comes in.  My husband and I got ourselves a new bedroom set for Christmas.  Yippee Skippee!!!!  This is our first actual bedroom set, it is a deep brown finish and I love it.  And if you are thinking, does that look really high?? The answer is yes, they ordered the wrong box springs so we have to poll vault into bed until the new ones come :)    This bed also happens to be our first king size bed so we have no bedding for it.  The walls are green, obviously leaning more towards a minty color than a sage color.  So . . . . If you were going to be making a king size quilt for this bedroom, what colors or what line would you use???

  1. a minty green with (is it dark brown or black furniture?) and white and then a darker version of the green would look great. do you have EQ7? design something fun in there.
there's so many cool lines of fabrics out there, I have no idea. have you looked at connecting threads website?

  2. Sugar Hill it would be so pretty with your walls :)

  3. I'd make the background color either chocolate brown or tan. A pink would go with that green color, if you could get close to matching it...

  4. Its hard to pull off a green wall (cool) with the dark brown carpeting, I would repaint that wall to a warm wheat ( I believe my walls are toasted wheat by Behr) (something in the brown color family), then any color bedding will work.

  5. Bliss and ruby have a green in it....is the right color?

Or what about the one with the bunny hidden in it? Brown and green, or brown and blue or brown and pink. Williams? I'll try and find it.

  6. It's lily and will that I was talking about before.

2nd strawberry hill is pretty. Like a different green but in the same family.

3rrd what about the Christmas lines.... Maybe just don't use some of the Christmas fabrics or jut Christmas it up all year!!!

  7. Since the green has so much blue in it, the complement would be a red on the orange end of things, so a rust, peach, coral, or something like that.

Things I might try (I don't really know your style yet, and it's so hard to tell real colors by photo):
Secret Garden in Tea Time colorway: http://www.hawthornethreads.com/fabric/pre_cut/fat_quarter_bundles/secret_garden_fat_quarter_bundle_in_tea_time_garden

Pear Tree line in pinks or greens:

Magnolia Lane, especially if you can find some of the other prints in the line:

Midwest Modern 1 and 2 in Ohio Sky colorway: http://www.hawthornethreads.com/fabric/designer/amy_butler/midwest_modern_1_and_2

Just some ideas to get you started. I'm sure whatever you choose will be gorgeous!

  8. I'd go for a wheat coloured background with accents of the green and also some dusty burgundy.

  9. Merry Christmas!
I'm currently making a big quilt for our bed with Secret Garden by Sandi Henderson... I think it would be beautiful here too.
(I'm so excited to one day get a bedroom set...one day...)

  10. I think any of the Fig Tree lines would look great with minty green. Joanna has some yummy color combinations that would warm up any room.

  11. You could always go the route of a white wholecloth quilt and then use bed runners interchangeably to give different effects and to celebrate various holidays or seasons (if you are into that!). As for my personal colors ideas, I tend to stay away from using large amounts of the colors that are on my walls, so that the whole room isn't the same color. I think I'd audition a light taupe with a medium plum and a little green (as an accent color to tie it together)... Just my two cents :o)

  12. I'd suggest a package of fabrics, any of their lines, from Fig Tree Designs. They have minty greens and companiable and contrasting colours to your bedroom walls, so a quilt would go with your walls, no matter the colour!
    Take care, Leslie

  13. Our walls are just a little darker, and I have dark furniture, too. One of my goals for 2012 is to make a king sized quilt for our bed. I started pulling fabric and am trying to stay away from greens. It's a stash buster, so there are all sorts of lines, but I am using a lot of Sandi Henderson Secret Garden and Farmer's Market, some various Patty Young, and some Heirloom from Joel Dewberry.

  14. Ooh, looks lovely! People are coming up with some great colour palettes over on my blog comp - might find some inspiration there. http://www.quokkaquilts.blogspot.com/2011/12/bloggers-choice-fat-quarter-bundle.html

  15. I think you need some purple, in there with that green. A few shades of purple, some green, a bit darker than the walls. Maybe a splash of yellow. Think of irises, crocus, pansies.

  16. I am thinking the Misty Impressions line (http://tinyurl.com/chvke55) would be great because it is masculine enough for the hubby but still gorgeous enough for you. This is just my thought.

  17. first that furniture is AMAZING!! love it!! i think i would pull in some gray to go with it! not a ral dark but a lighter gray! I know you will do a grat job and cannot wait to see what you do with this!
on a funny note my Mother had a very high bed like that she was tall and love that she could just roll out and was already standing when she got out! LOL

  18. anything from french general would be really lovely. Or, you could do something really modern with solids. another option would be a simple whole cloth quilt... maybe just do a really basic straightline quilting or cross-hatch in white or cream. then make a beautiful throw or bed runner that you could change out seasonally with some coordinating shams. lots of possibilities!

  19. Peaches, rust sage, cream- you do need to lighten and brighten due to the dark rug. Check out Garden Party on sale at the Fat Quarter Shop

  20. I personally like Josie's suggestion of gray. Grays and perhaps some shades of your green with a small pop of black as corner blocks for example. I would stay away from colors in the actual quilt and use throw pillows for your color. Use black frames on your walls and if you have children try framing some of their art work.
You have lots of suggestions that run the gamut. Let us know what you choose.
    Warm New Years Blessings

  21. Maybe a taupe/japanese color theme?

  22. Okay those colors are screaming out some warm fallish type colors, like the Origins line or maybe the new Outfoxed line. I love French General, too. You need some pretty wrought iron frames! Love it :)
