The Wrong Season

This morning I started boxing up Jocelyn's 3-6 month clothing to move to the 6-12 month box. (She is growing so fast :)   Now, I have to say, this is a slightly emotional process for me.  I have seen my 3 girls grow out of most of these clothes and to box them up for the last time ( Yes, our little family is done) gets me a little weepy.  So when I went to box up this dress and realized that Jocelyn had never gotten to wear it (a little cold for a summer dress) I couldn't help but dress her up for a little picture and then of course shamelessly post it here.

I made this about 3 years ago based on a tutorial I saw over at Crazy Mom Quilts.  I mean, who wouldn't love patchwork added to 3D sewing.   Unfortunately, by the time I finished the dress my then baby (Kamryn) could not fit in it. (She was a wee bit pudgy)  So I cut the back and made this little alteration so I could button her in it instead.  And I just loved how it turned out.  I mean, who doesn't love a little bum peaking out of the back :)

So now, I can go finish boxing it up and know that Jocelyn got to wear it at least once.  Even if it was only for a photo shoot.  (And it is a good thing I did this today because I could barely do up those buttons.  Maybe I should feed them less, tee hee hee :)  Oh, and I am sure I will probably cry a little more, but that is okay, because nostalgic tears are good ones :)

  1. love that little dress! She looks so much like your other girls! I keep seeing babies, sisters in laws and sisters having babies, and here I am, baby-less, it is sometimes hard, even after all these years of knowing we were done having babies. Wish I were still your neighbor to come and help you pack up and commiserate!

  2. Slightly emotional? I could have dressed her in that yesterday if you would have told me. BTW I won't be home today for lunch, sorry. Sometimes I like to use your comment section to send insignificant messages.

  3. my daughter had triplets last July - two girls and a boy and they are growing fast - she weeps when she puts the kiddos into a larger size and it fits, means they are growing too fast!

  4. The dress looks cute. I have a 16 year old, 13 year old and 7 year old and wife was done. So when we changed plans and decided to have another my wife was out of clothing. It was so funny she was talking to a lady at church the next day we have 5 boxes of clothing left over from their 4 little girls. It's so cute to go though them and try to decide which one our baby will wear first wife is due in just about 3 weeks.

  5. Oh she's darling and yes, they grow much too quickly. So cute in that little patchwork dress. I loved sewing for the kids when they were young. I don't blame you for being weepy, but I think it just makes us appreciate the daily moments more and that's a good thing.

  9. The dress is too cute. Why box it when you can cut it up and make it into a quilt? I recently saw this tutorial

  10. With the first one you are so anxious to see them do the next thing and with the last one, I kept wanting to savor every moment and slow down time.

  12. I can so relate! I'm not sure if we're done or not, but it is such a bittersweet feeling!
(but yea, I agree -- put a onesie underneath and some tights on, and she is good to go. :)

  13. She is way too cute.
    I love that dress!
I also understand the weepy feelings about putting the baby things away.
When I go through my keepsake chest and see the kids little outfits I kept for them to use when they have kids. (kept two outfits each) I get so teary eyed.

  15. A little splash of color on a cold winter day! I say winterize those summer duds by adding tights/long pants and sweaters ;0)

  16. Melissa,
I would have done the same thing!Put the dress on the baby doll.
They grow up so quickly. I have alot of patterns for my cutie pie grand-daughter-Although she turns 14 this year & those patterns, well, they stay size 2,3,4,6 etc.
And boxing up the daughter's clothes...it is a tear-filled moment b/c it's a passage of life that has closed.

  17. I so know how you feel. I'm going through the piles myself this week. I waited so long to become a mom, went through such huge hurdles and traveled major distances to bring my babies home that each piece of clothing has intense meanings. How do I give any of it away? But I decided that I am keeping a couple of favorite outfits from each season. My MIL saves some of my husband's baby clothes and my son actually got to wear a few of his old sweaters. Perhaps you want to save a fe things for each kidlet too.

The dress is adorable and that one should be saved for sure. Maybe one day a grand daughter will wear it.
