I finished up my practice block for the Lucky Stars BOM this morning and I am quickly remembering that I really like paper piecing!! I mean, look at those points, what is there not to love about perfect points!! I opted to alternate the blue and green diamonds hoping it would create a bit of an optical illusion. It didn't have quite the desired effect I was going for, but I still like it so that's okay.
This block started by making 4 sets of 2 templates. It took me a little while to make the first template, I haven't paper pieced a lot and the little I have done was a while ago. Thanks to Elizabeth's amazing instructions though I caught on and before you knew it was cranking them out assembly line style.
I always love a good trimming pile. And it is fun to add paper to the mix of trimmings :)
After paper piecing the templates it's time to sew the eighth's into quarters, the quarters into halves, and the halves into a block. This is where the finesse comes in and honestly, I just love this part. I just love lining up the seams ever so perfectly and creating nice crisp points!
And before I knew it I was done. When I was done, I wished I would have changed the center fabric so that I could see the awesome central point better, but I suppose that is all part of the learning process. Once again, I still like it so I am happy with the overall outcome!!
So now it's onto January's block!! So excited!!! I think I will go pick out fabrics now :)
And since I finished it up, I am adding it to Crazy Mom Quilts Linky
that is a great looking block....may have to try it!

ReplyDeleteYes! I like your colors:):)
ReplyDeleteCan you believe I fudged my first block by doing a stupid move of cutting off the seam allowance at the end--don't ask lol. What matters is that I redid it today and it came out right---a little over 6 1/2",but that is fine by me:)
Great looking block. Wish my first PP block looked that good, but, I kept at it and now, PP is my favorite way to make a block.
ReplyDeleteGreat perfect points! I haven't tried paper piecing yet, but it's on my list of things to try. Looking good Melissa!
