Threadbias Briar Rose Challenge

I have been hearing about Threadbias for some time know and kept thinking that I should check it out but in the day to day goings on never got around to it.  Then, the other day I happened to hear about the Threadbias Briar Rose Challenge.Well, nothing like a challenge with the opportunity for some Heather Ross fabric for some motivation :)

So . . . I popped on over and signed up for a trial account.  Threadbias is an online community where you can share patterns, projects, pictures, and play with their Live Design Tool.   I didn't spend to much time checking out the community, but I got familiar with the Design Tool while drafting my little Challenge Entry.  I found it a little difficult at first, most likely because the way you design is quite a lot different from EQ7 which is what I am used to.  But after a little bit, I started to get the hang of it.  And before to long, I had drafted up my Star Surround Block into a quilt top.  (I decided to draft up something I had already designed so that I could focus on learning the program and less on the designing, that and I am strongly leaning towards a quilt-a-long and it is fun to see it in quilt format :)

So here is my entry.  I am calling it A Rose Among Thorns.  The contest goes until May 5th so if you want to give the designing tool a try and maybe win some awesome fabric, pop on over ;)

Just wondering . . . When writing this post I debated about writing why I liked my EQ7 for designing more than this Design Tool, but I realized it wouldn't be fair as I have been using EQ7 for 2 years and the design tool for 2 hours.  So then I thought, maybe I should just write a post on what I like (or love being the case) about EQ7.  Would you be interested in a post like that??

  1. I'll tell you what I don't like about EQ7......there is no MAC version.

    1. I can see how that would be totally frustrating :(

  2. I am seriously thinking of EQ7 or the newest available. Instead of buying patterns I could design my own.

  3. Yes no Mac version. I use Quilt Pro which is alright but probably not as good.

  4. I have bought EQ7 because everyone seem to like. I would love to hear from people what they like about it. Maybe a short tutorial on using it.

  6. I think the thread bias tool becomes much more intuitive if you watch the videos. I have EQ--I find it equal parts amazing and endlessly frustrating. Are there short, coherent EQ videos I can watch?

  7. First, I love your quilt!! Second, can't wait to see your post tomorrow on the Modern Baby Quilts hop! third, I'd LOVE to get your thoughts on EQ7. I've been thinking about getting and EQ for several years, but am slow to hop on any technical band-wagons (did you hear me saying paper and pencil work for me? LOL!)
I know so little about computers and the technical stuff that I don't even know what I should be looking for!! Thanks for the offer: if you do it I'll certainly be reading it!! Hugs!

  10. Yes, because I have been trying to get better using EQ7. I've been using it for about the same time - 2 years and use it to design my quilt alongs. But I know it can do more - so I'd love to hear your opinions about it.

  11. I would love to hear your thoughts on EQ7. Since I am turning the big 50 in June, I was thinking about asking my hubby for EQ7 for my birthday. I'd love to hear what you say before I give him my wish list. Thank you!! P.S. LOVE that Star Surround quilt!!!!!!!!

  14. Cool idea for yours. I've been pondering entering, but not sure I actually have time before the deadline!

  15. Rose Among Thorns is great. Very cute, and of course I like your stars.
I use Quilt-Pro. I've been using it about four years, and I really like it. I can draft in blocks I see elsewhere. There is quite an extensive library already. You can add to it by downloading extra Foundation Factory collections, and Kansas City Star collections, and Carol Doak has chosen Quilt-Pro to digitize all her paper-piecing. I think it's very easy to use and it is less expensive than EQ....and it has a MAC version for those of you with that problem.
