Some of you might recall from this post that I recently finished a baby boy quilt for my sweet little nephew that was soon to be expected. Well, David arrived last Wednesday. Here he is in his first few hours with his mommy. That's my twin sister, Jen :) Isn't he just adorable!! Everything seemed to be perfect but the next day the family got some sad news.
During his routine check-up a heart murmur was detected. Tests were run and showed that David has coarctation of the aorta and two holes in his heart, ASD, and VSD. He was transferred to the Children's Hospital and has been awaiting his surgery day. This morning he is undergoing open heart surgery to fix the above mentioned problems.
It has been a long hard week for David and his parents. We are praying that everything goes well with his surgery and that his recovery will be smooth and hopefully no further surgeries will be needed. So, the favor. Could you please keep this little guy in your thoughts and prayers today. Thank you and know that is is so greatly appreciated by me and his parents :)
P.S. I am away from my computer this weekend and so I won't be able to respond to your comments right away but I will be sure to give an update on David Sunday evening. Thank you again :)

Melissa, he is beautiful and (as a nurse) he's pink! Overall ASD and VSD repair have good surgical outlook. Some ASD and VSD aren't even detected except by a murmur, take comfort in the fact the physicians/nurses picked up on this right away. No doubt this is scary, especially with such a tiny one, and looking at him with surgical equipment everywhere can be overwhelming...get to know his nurses they are the ones trained to detect the slightest change in condition. He looks like a robust little guy, prayers for successful surgery and hugs to you all. Sue
ReplyDeleteOf course Melissa. A worrying time for all of you, but he's in the best care and with the wonders of modern medicine too. He's a beautiful baby and looks to be thriving. He looks a good size too. How big was he? David looks like my sons did at birth, strong and fair and just gorgeous! Look after your sister and brother in law. They don't gotthrough heart surgery but worry side of things. My best thoughts are with you all.

Our middle son had his first heart surgery at 2 days and his last at age 21. Tender mercies are all around for you to be blessed by.

Im glad the doctors found it so soon, no one knew with evelyn and she nearly died at home! but she is a healthy happy 4 year old girl now :) I know how stressful this can be. my husband and i are praying for you little david. This is encouraging! I always noted that cardiac kids have gorgeous eyes! I am glad you have your husband who can help explain all the complicated medical jargon.
