So yesterday was kind of a fun day, because not only was it the Star Light Star Bright Quilt-A-Long Parade, but it also was my first time posting a project as part of the Riley Blake Project Design Team!!! So exciting!!! I was asked back in January to join the team and from that month, I knew what I wanted my first project to be. And this is it . . . The Royal Star Quilt.
You see, my Mother was born in England and moved from there when she was 12. She recently returned to England for the very first time for a special "holiday" with my Grandmother. It was a wonderful trip for her and so when I saw British Invasion I knew it would make the perfect little throw quilt to remind her always of that special trip.
I knew from the start that I wanted to design something big that really showed off the super fun fabrics in this line. A few weeks back I was taking a process picture for the SLSB QAL and was totally inspired. So I came up with this frame in a frame star design and it worked out just perfect for the fabrics ;) You all know how much I love stars and I have been wanting to do a giant star block for some time. Yippee!!!
I quilted the background with my favorite echoed paisleys (tutorial found here) and then quilted all of the prints in a little loopy. I haven't quilted loops in a while and forgot just how fun they are to quilt :)
And probably my favorite part of the quilt are these wonderful Bobbies that stand in attention bordering the quilt. So fun!! I quilted them in straight lines, because really, it just seemed appropriate ;)
So now this wonderful little 64" x 64" throw has a new home on the back of my Mother's reading chair. Ya, she pretty much loves it, and that makes me love it all the more ;)
So if you want to whip up your own The Royal Star Quilt you can find the free step by step tutorial over at Riley Blake Designs :) I hope you have as much fun with yours as I did with mine ;) And when you finish yours, I would love to see it. You can add it to my Flickr Group Here ;)
Thanks so much for stopping by and have a Happy / Royal Quilting Day!!!
