It's What We Do :)

So at the moment I am actively working on 5 quilts.  Yes, I really am working on all 5 at the same time.   They are all at different stages of being finished.

One just has to be bound.  (By Friday, nothing like deadlines to motivate :)

One is ready to be loaded on the long arm and quilted.

One the blocks are made and it is time to add some applique.

And the last 2 the blocks are almost all pieced.

And so why not add a #6.   It's what we do, right!!!

This stunning collection of Birch Farms by Joel Dewberry arrived the other day from the lovely folks at Free Spirit Fabrics.   I was so excited because I have had this idea for a new bedspread but I needed to find  perfect cross of masculine and feminine for my husband and I .  Hello, could Birch Farms be more Perfect!!!!   So now I just need to go pick up some background fabric and Quilt 6 will be added to the mix ;)

So how many projects are you working on right now???

Have a Happy Quilting Day!!

  1. Ha! I have WAY too many projects in the works! Ack! I can't seem to catch up on any either. I have finally completed one last night... but now it is on to the rest! Sometimes I wish I was able to just stay home and quilt... because this full-time job and 45 minutes commute each way eats into my time of sewing! It's sad that even while at work, I am always exploring new possibilities for future quilts and I am always thinking of quilting ALL DAY... EVERY DAY. ;o) Beautiful work btw and I am excited to see how your new bedspread turns out!

    1. Now I don't feel so crazy! My full time job and commute fill my weekdays, but my thoughts are never far from my quilting projects just begging to be worked on (or new fabric begging to be cut!)

  2. Having multiple projects at different stages is the way to do it! Sometimes you want to piece, sometimes you want to sit and hand stitch the binding down. My problem is I always want to piece, so I have multiple quilts that need quilting and nothing left to piece (at the moment).

  3. I have 3 quilts that need to be quilted (with one started, one with a long-arm quilter, and one not started), 3 quilts that need to be sandwiched, 1 wall hanging that needs a back, and 4 quilts that I'm piecing. I have plans and fabric to make several more quilts. Do you feel better now? Yes, well, go work on that lovely new bedspread and enjoy the fabric without any guilt!

  4. I've actually got 4 projects in the works ~ two of them are in stall mode, but I'm sure I'll get to them eventually. :) Looking forward to seeing your projects finished up!

  6. Rosemary B here:
I have about 12 projects on the burner, going on at different stages. I agree, it is what we do, and we are good at it!
I love getting your updates, Melissa

  7. Let's see, the quilt I had on the longarm but had to take off with one row quilted because the machine quit.
Then there's the one for Friday which needs backing, the X&O that needs a back, the wedding Boxed In & Out, the baby hexagons, and the B block. Then the Frozen capes, Kamree's pjs for her sisters and Jessi's top and cover. Arugh! Fight depression, QUILT!!!!

  8. In essence I have many in the works but not sitting out waiting for me to tackled them. I grow UFOs! I have Star Light Star Bright to finish and actively working on another quilt for a friend who has become quite ill. I have about 6 quilt tops ready to be quilted and red work blocks waiting to be made into a quilt top. I guess I better get to work!!!

  9. I've lost track as well. There are about 5 or 6 recent ones and several older ones in a pile waiting for me to feel confident enough to quilt them. It is what we do and I'm quite happy with it....my husband on the other hand gets really happy when I finish them!

  10. Love the fabric you have just got for the new bed quilt and good to see you only have the binding to do on the other one.Now I am on the quilting path I find I have lots on the go unlike when I did embroidery and was very organised working on one project at a time. Yesterday I finished binding one quilt, have one more to bind but cannot decide on the binding as have 2 options and 5 in the flimsy stage plus 2 BOMs I am doing and a list as long as both arms of things I want to do!

  15. Now I don't feel so bad! My husband calls me the napkin queen! I'm currently piecing 5 quilts, have another 4 done but need to be put together, 5 that need to be sandwiched and one waiting to be quilted. Yeah... I have a problem. Lol I just love to start new projects and I'm always joining QAL's and Bees. I think I just need to quit my job. Right.

  16. Yeah - we only live so long, might as well make the most of it! I however must admit that I can only seem to work on two or three at most at a time. I really get excited over one and then I want to see it to the finish, so I leave all the others and concentrate on it, usually. Isn't it SEW fun?!
