Next year the Utah Quilt Guild is celebrating their
40th Birthday and as part of the celebration they are hosting a
Ruby Jubilee! So fun, if you have never seen a Ruby Jubilee it is a beautiful collection of quilts all done in reds and whites. Just stunning!!! I have always wanted to make my
Braided Irish Chain pattern as a 2 color quilt and figured this is the perfect opportunity to do so!!! So I started to plan and quickly realized . . . I can't decide??
What do you think, White Chain with a Red Background . . . or
Red Chain with a White Background
Which is your favorite???
Red background is my preference.
ReplyDeleteRed background is my preference.
ReplyDeleteCan you mix it up with light blocks in the middle?
ReplyDeleteI prefer the white on red, but also thought a band of red on white, or even a border that echoes the design, but in reverse would be stunning.
ReplyDeleteBoth are nice but the red background is really striking.
ReplyDeleteI love the red background.
ReplyDeleteRed background~
ReplyDeleteWhite background

ReplyDeleteRed Background
ReplyDeleteLove both (I'm a help, aren't I;-) I think the white background is more classic while the red is more modern.
ReplyDeleteI like the white background :)
ReplyDeleteLove the red background!
ReplyDeleteThe red background really makes this sing!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Hildy, I think the red background has a more modern feel...so it depends on what effect you're going for...classic or modern. I lean toward a modern aesthetic so I'd do the red background.
ReplyDeleteThat red background is beautiful! Ultimately, whatever you decide will be amazing =)
ReplyDeleteRed background would be my choice.
ReplyDeleteThey are both lovely, but for me red is the winner. And a little cat hair wouldn't show up as much.
ReplyDeleteI went back and forth so much that I made myself dizzy. LOL!! Still can't decide because they both look like winners to me!!
ReplyDeleteCan you do half and half so it is a positive/negative or mirror image effect?
ReplyDeleteI just about fell over!!! Make both!!!!!
ReplyDeleteRed background gets my vote! It's much more intense and modern :-)
ReplyDeleteI love both! Make both! And then send me one... :-)
ReplyDeleteRed chain with white background for sure.
ReplyDeleteI like red chain with white background.
ReplyDeleteWhite backgrounds are so common. The red background is classy and vibrant!
ReplyDeleteThe red background makes it look more like a multi-faceted jewel so I would pick that one.
ReplyDeleteI think the red background looks great. Good luck with your final decision!! :-) Hugs, H
ReplyDeleteBack and front. :) I know basting and quilting it would be a nightmare, with no extra on your back, but it sure would look cool. Otherwise, I vote Red background
ReplyDeleteRed background.
ReplyDeleteI vote white background.
ReplyDeleteI like the white chain best.
ReplyDeleteThe Red background quilt is very striking!!
ReplyDeleteI vote for the white!
ReplyDeleteRed background with white chain. It's breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteRed background with white chain. It's breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the white background with red chain. I am currently making a red/white also. I will be looking forward to seeing yours.
ReplyDeleteRed background is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteRed ;-) or white - cuz they are both pretty - but Red.... yes... red
ReplyDeleteEveryone seems to use white as a background color, so I'd use red.
ReplyDeleteRed background for sure (unless you go blue like I would--lol!).
ReplyDeleteWhite background! Always white for me.
ReplyDeleteRed Background.....or like comment # 3
ReplyDeletethey are both pretty. i prefer the red back ground. aren't a lot of quilts done in white back ground?
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love red & white quilts! I like this pattern with a white background, but both ways are stunning! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteRed for the background! It'll be beautiful either way!
ReplyDeleteRed background!
ReplyDeleteI too am wanting to do a red and white quilt - I even have the yardage bought, just looking for some inspiration - had thought to do a sampler, but since I have your book, am rethinking my plan. I am currently obsessed with the look of a crisp white bedcover so I would go with a white background. Thank you for your kind inspiration.
ReplyDeleteMy son would say do one on the front and one on the back!
ReplyDeleteWhite background with red chains
ReplyDeleteDefinitely the red background - it is much more stunning!
ReplyDeleteDepends entirely what you like, and what colors are where you would display it. It's going to be beautiful either way. Personally I think the red background is a bit distracting to the design, but they aren't actual fabric so that would change everything. Look forward to seeing it in phases.
ReplyDeleteWhite background, red chain!
ReplyDeleteI like the two tone look for this quilt, my favorite is the white chain on a red background.
ReplyDeleteI like the white background quilt the best, but I must admit it was a close call to chose.
ReplyDeleteWow love them both, how about making one of each? One for the front and one for the back!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the red background!
ReplyDeleteNot much help here; both are beautiful!! If I absolutely HAD to choose though, I would choose the white on red. Why not do one of each and use one as the back and one as the front? That way whatever mood you happen to be in could be the one you display! Hey! I think I just found my next quilt project! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhite chain, red background! Stunning
ReplyDeleteI like the red background! But I agree with others as well that I would do both!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the votes so far-- Red background!!! Very striking. :-)
ReplyDeleteI like them both, but go with the red background.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of doing the outside with a red background and the center 4 large blocks with a white background - but that may create an issue with the 9Ps. Either way will be beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI like the white chain on the red background the best
ReplyDeleteThe white chain with the red background is my favorite, but both are really nice. This will be an exciting event!
ReplyDeleteRed background !
ReplyDeleteRed background!
ReplyDeleteRed chain/white background!
ReplyDeleteGosh, they both look great! I say make one of each as a way to show how different colors can make a quilt look different.
ReplyDeleteOoh difficult decision, but I think I like the White background better!
ReplyDeleteGo big with the red background
ReplyDeleteRed background. I like the white background but the thought of keeping all that white clean scares me 😬
ReplyDeleteRed background is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteBoth versions are beautiful, but I like the white chain with the red background. It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteLoved the red background but then went to the link in comment 75 above, and absolutely loved the white background. I guess i could go either way! They're both bee-u-tiful!
ReplyDeletewhite background is my favorite! :)
ReplyDeleteLove bothbut I especially like the white background with the red.
