ReplyDeleteWe are really big on costumes, generally the whole family is in the same theme. The youngest broke that tradition this year because she didn't want to be one of the characters from our game (though I still want to make her Wizgille sometime) but I still made her costume and she's still awesome.

ReplyDeletewhen the kids were younger, I made their Halloween costumes. They got to pick what costume and the fabrics. Some of those were interesting. We never decorated with ghosts, witches and bats, etc. We did get together with friends who were of like mind and we had a special party for the kids. They loved it until they got into high school and then wanted to do their own thing. They would get together and plan their own party at one of our houses. Turned out to be a lot of fun and great responsibility for them.

ReplyDeleteIt’s been a long time since I’ve done anything Halloweenie. My daughters all grown up and so are all the neighborhood kids! It’s just become a good excuse for splurging on a favorite treat, knowing I get to eat it all.
ReplyDeleteWe use to have great Halloween traditions for the 300-400 children that we had trick-or-treating at our door. Then we moved and we are in an area where there just aren't any children, so our house is dark - makes my husband sad.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite tradition is the carving of pumpkins, but we rarely do it anymore. We don't have a porch to put them on and I can't put out real pumpkins at work. Too big, too much in the way, etc.
My tradition was to make my kids costumes, an then my grandkids costumes. This year neither. I kind of miss it, but I did raise them to be independent- and they are.

ReplyDeleteLots of orange lights for me! I luv Halloween and that jelly roll. You have a great shop! tthompson@marshall.k12.il.us. --Tracey
ReplyDeleteFor years we carved pumpkins and stocked up on candy for any trick or treaters. But the number of trick or treaters decreased each year, with no one showing up for the last few years. So now we just do a stew or soup in a pumpkin shell for dinner for the two of us. Trying a new one each year. Still searching for the perfect recipe.

ReplyDeleteWe always dress up and for the first time this year we actually carved pumpkins. Usually I buy them and we carve them a few weeks later. Another new one for us this year that I'd like to keep is that we came home and played games hoping for trick-or-treaters--we got 2. Loved the games though!

ReplyDeleteI used to decorate our entire kitchen island: black fabric (w/various things underneath for dif display heights) topped with all kinds of creepy candies in jars and bowls, string lights all around and always a cauldron of bubbling dry ice. I began working on it the minute I got home from dropping the kids off for school on the morning of Halloween and would spend most of the day perfecting it! The kids couldn’t wait to get home to see what Mom fixed up every year. The room would be dark but for the pumpkin lights glowing, dry ice smoking and creepy music going. They are all too old now but it’s definitely become a favorite “Remember when Mom...” conversation.

ReplyDeleteI did not do a whole lot of Halloweening this year. We were away for the weekend. But we did go kayaking and that was fun for a Fall activity.
ReplyDeleteFor Halloween we love to see our great grand children in their costumes, and how excited they are. Our days of trick-or-treating are over, but their Grandma, (our daughter) has taken up the job, along with their parents. Such fun to see a fun tradition continued within our family! I remember what fun Halloween was for me as a child! : )

ReplyDeleteI still decorate for Halloween on the inside and outside of the house. I am single with no kids or grand kids. I just like to decorate for all holidays.
