  1. I store my <fat quarter size scraps in a small dresser by color. The small bits are getting the best of me. I have a BIG zippered clear bag from Ikea under the cutting table but it is running wild. Time to sort a bit and give to the folks who make dog beds.

  4. I store my scraps, by color, in a tote; and if they are smaller than a fat quarter, I cute them into 5 inch and 2 1/2 inch squares and put them in tubs. When I find a pattern I want to try, I am ready to begin.

  11. I have see-thru containers on shelves that make it very easy to see what is in my scrap baskets. I also have shelves for each color of fabric, in which I store yardage and fat quarters.

  12. I have my scraps stored in a three drawer bin separated by "strips" "chunks" and "pre-cut shapes"
    But I also have bags and boxes with tangled scraps that I am trying to tame.

  30. I do not have much organization. Strings go into two big boxes, one for neutrals and one for everything else. Bigger scraps go into a tote by my cutting table.

  32. I cut some of my scraps into squares (1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2, 3) and store each size in a clear shoe box labeled with the size of the squares. Bigger scraps go back into the cubbie shelf containing fabrics of the same colorway.

  39. Currently, I store my scraps by color in little baskets that look like the wooden baskets used to gather fruit. They are too small! I either need to make more scrap quilts or get bigger baskets!

  51. When I have too many scraps I purge. I must be ruthless and brutally honest with myself. I just gave a bag full of treasure to a sewing buddy. She makes crumb quilts!
    I have also donated scraps to a womans prison.

  53. Most of my scraps are stored in a rolling caddy-type storage bin. It works fine for me in my laundry room. I have other larger fabric pieces in containers under the bed.

  71. I store my scraps in bins - one for selvages, one for strips, and one for 6" or smaller squares. Bigger pieces are stored in stacks in a drawer with FQ. I haven't finished a lot of projects so my scraps are not overwhelming ... yet. :)

  76. All over the place! Lol seriously though, they are here and there in bins, drawers, bags. It’s not the ideal method, especially when I am trying to find something specific. Every year I try to reorganize and destash which helps.

  95. Well, I'm am fairly new to quilting, self taught, and was storing them in a rum of paper box. I've made 10 quilts plus 1 crazy quilt that I used most of my scraps on. I come from the generation of waste not, want not!

    I reallly really enjoyed reading all of these comments. Great storage ideas.
    I have about 5 very large boxes of scraps.
    It is time for me to go through these boxes and find what is useful and give them to my friend close by that has a sewing school and a shop.
    I keep bringing her fabric and she always seems appreciative but I think she is just being nice hahahaha

  125. I usually have at least quarter to half yard pieces left from my quilts. If I have smaller, leftover pieces, I fold them into the larger pieces of the same fabric and put them by color on my shelves. Any small loner goes in a 2 gallon baggie for applique. That way, if I want to use a piece for a project, I know just how much I have, without having to look in a box or bag, hoping to find just a bit more.

  132. My storage changes from month to month. LOL It depends on what i'm working on, and how many containers I've dragged out of the closet. I store nearly everything in plastic containers, but some are in the collapsible bins from the dollar store in my shelves. Two things I'm working on from scraps are in a cardboard box that water comes in. My mom used to do the same thing, but I think hers must have held canned goods.

  143. I store my scraps in smaller baskets by sizes - mainly 1.5 to 4.5. Each receives its own basket except my 1.5 - it has two - plus some cute jars filled with squares :)! I just can't seem to throw them away - now to creatively use them up.

  179. I have been reorganizing my sewing loft since I finally got to move into it a few months back. I started by cutting my scraps into usable sizes and shapes and then put each size and shape in a plastic shoe box labeled for what is inside. I will then put them all on shelves that are still downstairs waiting...
