Pumpkin Roll for Homecoming!!

It's time for another SUU Quilt Share in my favorite Red, White, and Black color combo!!! So we are headed back to Feb 2025 when I got to take a fun class at the Quilty Friends Retreat called Pumpkin Roll.   This pattern was designed by Kiley Ferons (awesome designer for Moda Fabrics!!)  for a magazine that was long out of print, but lucky for us, her mom was teaching the class and had permission to share the pattern with us.  And I am sorry, but I don't know where to find the pattern now.  But Ya, so glad I got to take the class because this Pumpkin Roll quilt just turned out so great!!  

For this Pumpkin Roll Quilt I used White/Black scrap prints from my stash.  It is always fun to do a little scrap busing, and I love that it adds so much to all of those inset circles.   And yes, those are pieced, inset circles, and I found after a few tries that 8 pins worked best!!   They were a little tricky to get the hang of, but by the end of the quilt, I was whipping through them.   And they just look so awesome!!!  Then some stitch and flip corners to the block to make the fun secondary diamonds.  Such a great design :)

And as always, an SUU quilt needs an SUU layered applique added to the corner of the quilt. The applique is the SUU Mascot, they are the Thunderbirds :)   And when it comes to a custom applique the sky is truly the limit.  It is such a fun way to personalize quilts!!   You can find the step by step tutorial here for layered applique :)   I have lost count of how many times I have made this particular applique, but I will say, I know make them three at a time so I can really streamline the process :)  

When it came time to quilt this Pumpkin Roll Quilt I decided on all over Swirls ;)  I just figured I wanted something to add texture that would quilt up fast, and this is always the ticket for that and adds so much great texture!!    And of course, a red thread was perfect for this quilt.   And you can really see the scrappy goodness in this picture.  So fun!!! 

And that is my SUU Pumpkin Roll Quilt and it was raffled off last weekend at Homecoming!  It finished at 60" x 70" so it is a great size to take to the Homecoming Game on Saturday evening with an  SUU Alum ;)  I just lvoed making this quilt and now want to design something new with inset circles so I can give them another whirl.  Always so fun to try a new technique :)
