Upcoming Teaching Times!!!!

I think one of my most favorite parts of getting involved in this amazing industry is the opportunity I have to teach and share my passion for quilting with fellow quilting friends ;) I know, I say it every time I get home from a retreat, but  I just love it.    And I am super excited, because in two months, I have the opportunity to teach at a new venue.    I was pleased as punch to be asked by Jina and Mona, the owners of the new UQSM (formerly known as HQSM) to come and teach for them!!!  So here is a quick rundown just in case you happen to be in the Salt Lake area.

UQSM on May 1 - May 4, 2019 at the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy UT

I will be teaching 4 classes and hosting a Trunk Show at this amazing Utah Quilting and Sewing Marketplace Retreat!!!  It is going to be so much fun!!!  I will be teaching my Pave the Way Class on Thursday afternoon, and my Corkscrew Class on Thursday evening.   Then on Friday morning I will be teaching my Playground Picnic Class, followed by a Trunk Show that afternoon, and finally, my Petal Pop Class that Friday evening.    Yup, it is going to be 2 very busy days, but I know it is going to be so great!!!  I just love teaching these classes!!  I can't wait and maybe I will see you there!!!

And this is just one teaching venue for this year.   If you want to see other places I will be teaching, just click on the  Teaching/Events tab at the top of the page ;)   I am mostly in Utah, but I do travel outside the state as well, and hopefully at some point, I will be somewhere near by you :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting day!!!!

Desert Rose - New Finishes and a New Pattern!!!

I am super excited this morning to (finally) share my newest Quilt Pattern in the Happy Quilting pattern lineup ;)   It is called Desert Rose and I just love it!!!   I originally worked on this quilt way back here, and decided I wanted to tweak the design a bit before making it into a pattern.  I love the changes and still loved the name so I kept it.   And now it's ready to share and I am just thrilled!!!

The pattern can be found  found in my Etsy Shop,  and like all my new Pattern Releases, It is on Special!!!!  This week Desert Rose will be marked down to $5.50!!! After that, it will be marked at the regular pattern price of $8.50 :)

This quilt is great for teaching some wonderful basic building blocks and even though it looks like a crazy amount of piecing, it really goes together fast once your basic units are done.   And with the blocks finishing at 20" square, you can really make a big quilt in a little amount of time ;)

This version of Desert Rose is made using Sunnyside Up fabrics by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics.    I love the happy and bright rainbow of colors in this line and that Corey designed so many of the fabrics in the line to really read one color.  It really makes the design just pop and you can see every little bit of the piecing.  I just love that!!

And when it came time to quilt it I wanted to highlight that piecing all the more.  So I opted not to quilt on any of the print fabric to really make it stand out all the more.   Then I went to town on the bacgkround fabric.   Small swirls, feathers, and pebbles really added to this design.   And my Pearl 402 So Fine thread blended perfectly into the background leaving amazing texture.  It really is my go to quilting color ;)

And that is my new Desert Rose quilt!!!!  I am just head over heals with this finish and am so excited to be able to share this design in pattern form.   So let me tell you a bit more about the pattern ;)

Like all my patterns, Desert Rose has size options so you can make the quilt size that fits you ;)  You will find 4 size options, a Baby, Picnic, Twin, and a Queen size.  And it is Fat Quarter friendly, so it is easy to just grab some and get cutting!

And I had so much fun making the first quilt, I just couldn't stop and decided to make up a baby version as well :)   And isn't it just to cute for words!!!!

I used 4 pink prints from Dandi-Annie fabric by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics and then I combined them with my favorite Gris Grey Grunge background.   I just love pink and grey together, it makes for such a shabby chic combination ;)

And since you only have to make 4 blocks for a baby size, this quilt went together in no time at all.   It really makes a big statement for a new little one ;)

I quilted this version of Desert Rose in an all over loose feather design.   This really is becoming a favorite all over design.  It is so fun and fast.  Still so grateful for Rebecca for sharing how she does this!!!

And that's the baby version of Desert Rose.   So just a reminder, like all my patterns, this is a full color pattern that can be printed in either page format or book format.  It is filled with lots of wonderful illustrations to guide you along each step of the way.   You are going to have so much fun putting this together ;)  And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to email me ;)

So that's all of it!!!  My two new Desert Rose quilts and the new Desert Rose pattern!!!!  Again, the pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop and will be on special for $5.50 all this week ;)

Thanks for popping in today and I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

Linking up these finishes to Sarah's and Myra's :)

Threadology QAL - Shooting Squares

It's the first of the month and that means it is the third block release of the Threadology Quilt Along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop!!!!  And today's blocks are Shooting Squares blocks, and they are just so fun!!!!  I love blocks that look like they are pieced on point, but really, they are not ;)

So here are my 3 of the large blocks.  And they were pretty easy to piece as there really isn't a ton of seams here.   The 6" blocks went together just as fast, you just have to watch when you are putting on the setting corners triangles that you don't stretch ;)  But with the center seam to line you up, it's a breeze ;)

So are you joining in the Threadology fun???  If so, you can download the block pattern right here and it is requested for each pattern you download to donate $5.00  to the Make a Wish Foundation :)  This is Fat Quarter Shop's annual charity QAL and $13,000 in funds have already been raised on the way to the $20,000 that Fat Quarter Shop and Moda will match.  So let's help them reach that goal ;)

And while making your blocks . . .  like always, Fat Quarter Shop has made an awesome  You Tube video tutorial that walk you through making this month's blocks and you can count on Kimberly sharing some helpful hints :)

Be sure to share all of your Threadology progress on social media with #threadologyquiltalong and check out Fat Quarter Shops post for Block 3 for lots more Shooting Stars Block Inspiration!!!

And that's it for the third block in the Threadology Quilt Along!!!!   I will be back on the fifteenth of March with the next block.  So fun!!!  So what do you say, wan't to come Threadology Quilting Along??  You are going to have so much fun!!!

Thanks for popping in today ;)  Have a Happy Quilting Day!!

February Sew Sampler!!!

Wow, another month has come and is just about gone.   But as always, the joy of the end of the month is a new Sew Sampler box !!!      And I just smiled when I opened my February box and found that the theme for the month was Tropical Oasis.   Could it be more fitting after I had  my own little Tropical Oasis last week, to fun!!!

And I am just head over heels for these brand new Allison Glass Sun Prints 2019 Charm Packs!!!!  I have always loved the  bright happy rainbow that Alison Glass designs in her prints.  You can't help but smile at those vibrant colors which you can totally see in the Mai-Tai quilt pattern that came in this month's box!!!!   Which is so awesome, because I am pretty sure most of us have a Pineapple quilt on our "to make someday" list, right ;)

I just love that Fat Quarter Shop keeps sending us everything we need to make the project :)  This month's notions included an Add-A-Quarter Plus ruler, which is just a must when paper piecing!!!  As well as brand new Pineapple Quilt Block Foundation Paper for making the quilt!!!  And I love that this design is pretty basic, so even with my limited experience of paper piecing, I can still make these!!!   And I just love the wood feel of Alex Anderson's 4 in 1 Sewing tool :)

And of course, with a new box, there is a new Barn Block!!!  And this month's block had super cute 1" finished patchwork, how great is that!!!  And it's a good think I cut a new project this week that had grey in it, because I am running out of scrap pieces of grey that are big enough for the barn and the block.   Good thing there is only 1 more block!!!  Eeekk, cant wait ;)

And that's my February Sew Sampler Box!!!   And while I can't wait for March's box, I hope the month will go just a little slower, I have a serious number of projects building up and need more time to sew ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

I've Got Two Tickets to Paradise

So this last week was one for the books.  My sweetheart had a conference in Maui and I tagged along.  I know, rough gig right :)  Really had to twist my arm to come along, tee hee hee.

Each morning, while Jacob was in conference, I told myself I was going to get a ton of computer work done . . . but ya, that is super hard to do with the beach out the door and a good book in your hands.   But I will say, I did get a little done and almost have a new pattern ready to release. (I know, I have been saying that for a month, almost leaves lots of wiggle room ;)

When conference was done at noon, we were off to play!!!   We spent the week enjoying some gorgeous hikes and playing in the waves.  Although one particular wave was a little larger than I like, read spits out tons of salt water.

And of course, there was a lot of serene walks on the beach and so much amazing food.   I really love seafood and I got my fill of it this last week!!!

But mostly, I just enjoyed getting to spend a week with my sweetheart away from all the cares of the world in a little slice of paradise.

And now, I am happy to be back home with my kiddo's (It's always nice to miss them so much that it makes leaving paradise a little easier :) and ready to get back to life.

So I'm off to do the laundry, and maybe I will squeeze in finishing that book :)   Gotta ease back into that real life stuff, right ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy (and maybe even some quilting) Day!!!

Teaching Times - Bryce Canyon!!!

Yesterday I shared about the Cedar Retreat, and today, it's the  Quilty Friends Winter Retreat held at Bryce Canyon.  I was so excited to return to teach this year!!!!   It was my second time teaching there and it was oh so much fun to fill 3 days of sewing, friends, and food ;)   This is a tight knit group of ladies that come to this retreat every year (as in they open registration and it is full in 1-2 days) and I think they said this was it's 33rd year.  Just amazing!!!

The first class I taught was my Petal Pop Pattern pattern!!   This is always a fun class to teach and I just love getting to see that moment when the design clicks for everyone.  It really is a very simple block to make, and once the "pieced cabin" method clicks, everyone just starts flying through the blocks.  So fun!!!

And here is a closer look at each of their blocks. Everyone did such an amazing job!!!  Everyone finished their first block, and several made it through their second and third as well.  Those that were making baby quilts are probably already done!!!   I can't tell you how wonderful it is to see everyone get so excited when they sew together that last seam and see their pretty petals!!

The next day I taught my  Braided Irish Chain Pattern  with 9 amazing ladies!!!  We were a smaller class but we still had just as much fun and good times :)  But here is where I will keep it real, I woke up feeling sick the morning of this class.     I was grateful to be able to push through and we all had a great time, but I for sure climbed in bed the second class was over.   What ya gonna do.

We only had 2 block finishes in class, but everyone else was so close to finishing as you can see above.  They almost all got their smaller blocks all pieced, and just needed to sew them into the big block.  Which, if you are doing a baby, only needs some sashing after that and you done!!!!   I just love this class and I can easily say, these amazing ladies had me laughing through the entire class, which was quite a feat, considering I wasn't feeling well!!!  Thanks so much for this awesome class!!!

And since I taught at this retreat last year, I had the wonderful privilege of getting to see a few finished quilts from last year's classes!!!     And that is just such a treat :)   And sorry, these pics are a little blurry as I was in the back selling patterns, and only had my cell for taking a few quick pics.
But isn't this Corkscrew quilt just so fun!!!   It has a cute pirate theme in the fabrics and will make the cutest bedspread for a little boy :)

And there were three finishes from my Moroccan Lullaby class.  I just love seeing the contrast of the opposite print and background layouts in these two quilts.   Isn't that just stunning!!! Makes me want to remake it with a dark background for sure!!!

And then this rainbow finish is just to perfect!!!  You all know I love rainbow quilts, and I had never thought to do Moroccan Lullaby as a rainbow quilt.   That is just what makes teaching so awesome, so many amazing finishes that just spark so much creativity!!!

And I got to take a class that last day as well with Barbara, but I didn't take any pics, because ya, I wasn't feeling great.   But all in all, still an absolutely amazing retreat and Barbara and I had oh so much fun!!!   If I have said it once, I have said it 100 times,  I love teaching quilting classes!!!!

I can't wait for June when I get to teach at the  Panguitch Quilt Walk .  Maybe I will see you there ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Teaching Times - Cedar Quilt Retreat!!!!

I know I say this every year, but I just love getting to teach at the Cedar Chest Quilter's Guild Retreat  because it's home ;)    I love that I get to see friends that I see all around town through the year as well as friends that aren't from around here but that I have gotten to know over the last 9 years of teaching at this retreat.    And we are a new venue now in the heart of Historic Downtown Cedar, and that just makes me smile!!!

The first class I taught was my Playground Picnic pattern.    This was such a fun class to teach!!!   I love that this block is put together in a little less than traditional way, and it is always fun to see how excited everyone gets when they see just how easy it is :)    These ladies were all so wonderful, and we had a lot of great laughs, along with a whole lot of sewing.    So fantastic!!

And here is a closer look at each of their blocks.  It really is so fun to get to see what fabrics everyone brings.  I just love seeing how some use bundles, and some mix and match their own, and they are all just so fun!!!   And many of them got a second block done as well, and it was great to get to see the A and B blocks next to each other.  Can't wait to see finished quilts!!!

The next morning I taught my True North Pattern, and again, we had such a great time in class!!!   Everyone did so good, and it was one of those classes where everyone just kept sewing even after the end of the class.  They were all so close to finishing a block and it was awesome to see them stick to it, even after the group photo and really get a lot done!!!  And I have to say, I just love when I remember to take group pics!!!  It is so great to remember each of these amazing ladies :)

And aren't these blocks just so pretty!!!   This block isn't hard, but it does take a lot of piecing and some serious seam matching, and everyone just did so fantastic!!!   I love each and every fabric combination and I can't wait to see these quilts all done!!!

And I had some wonderful students share some finishes with me, which is always a special treat!!!   How fun is this Seeing Stars quilt from my most recent Quilt Along!!!  You all know how I love purple, so a purple and yellow mix of stars, so awesome!!!!   And so many people liked it, I am actually now going to be doing it as a BOM for our Cedar Quilt Guild, so fun!!!

And I was clear in the back of the auditorium, but I managed to get a snapshot of this beautiful Pave the Way quilt!!!    Isn't it just stunning.   Makes me want to make a Christmas version for myself!!   Love it ;)

And our guild had the wonderful treat of having Sherri McConnell and Val Krueger as national teachers.  I has not met Val (a super impressive pattern designer and long arm quilter) before and it was lovely to get to know her.   And Sherri, as always, is just amazing.  I really enjoyed getting to hear about her start in quilting, especially as it started with lots and lots of Irish Chain Quilts, because you all know, I love Irish Chain Quilts!!!

And now, I just can't wait until next year ;)   Good thing time just keeps flying by!!!

If you are in the Utah Area, the Panguitch Quilt Walk  opens their registration on March 1st and I will be teaching the same Playground Picnic class shared above, as well as my Square Dance Pattern there in June ;)  Who knows, maybe I will see you there!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
