Two Times the Charm - Done and Done

So as I mentioned yesterday, I still need to make my new nieces baby quilt but . . . I can check off my good friends baby quilt as I delivered it to its proud papa yesterday ;)  So now I can share it here as well.   Two Times the Charm for Two Totally adorable Baby Boy Quilts!!!

I used my Charm Bracelet Pattern from the Improvisational Piecing section of Irish Chain Quilts for these two quilts.  I was planning on only making one but when I grabbed my Reel Time Layer Cake by Zen Chic, it just worked out perfect to make two, one "high volume" and one "low volume".

This is the Low Volume one.  I wish I knew what the background color was, but sad to say, I stuck the leftovers from another quilt in my stash without marking it and I can't remember what solid it is.  Sorry.   But it goes just perfectly with the "low volume" prints from Reel Time.

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided on a cute loop de loop in the background and double arches in the print squares.  I love how it makes those little squares just pop right out of the quilt ;)  So fun!!  This quilt will be sitting in my sewing room for the time being until another special little guy comes along who needs a baby quilt ;)

And onto the "high volume quilt, which is totally a term I made up because I couldn't think of anything better than the opposite of low.  This is the one I decided to give my friend.   I just love the fun colors in this quilt and how much they pop, and they just happen to be the same colors mom and dad are doing the nursery in!!!!  Love it when it works out like that!!!

I quilted this one the same, even though it doesn't show up as much in the picture.  But it really does show how the quilting lets those little squares just pop up.  I hope baby enjoys rolling around on this quilt in a few months, so many bright colors to love ;)

And then of course, I had to add a little applique to make it personalized.  Just one of those cute little finishing touches ya know to make it extra special ;)

And here is proud papa after I dropped it off to him at work ;)  This is their first little one and I am so, so, very excited for them!!!!   Babies are just the best!

I tell you what, there is just nothing better than a baby quilt!!!  I just love making them and I especially love giving them to new Mama and Papa's!!!

Wishing you a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

This is little Emily Anne with her adorable family.  Yes, just in case you weren't aware, that is my twin sister :).  And remember little David and his scary little entry into the world, well that is him next to his mom, growing strong and healthy and so very happy to be a big brother :)  So excited for you Jen and your family as you welcome this precious little angel into your lives!!

Oh, and I suppose I better get cutting and piecing considering Emily's quilt still looks like this ;)  Good thing baby quilts go together fast ;)

A Fun Surprise!!!

Before I get to the surprise, I have to say sorry that it has been a little quiet around here this last week.  I had one of those "put a secret quilt together quick" kind of projects (for a friend for market, so I can share soon ;) which wouldn't normally keep me from blogging, but I was also fighting a monster cold  all last week.  So by the time I was done with the sewing that needed to be done, I just didn't have any energy left for blogging.  I barely even remembered to put a few things on Instagram, like the project below.  Apparently stuffy heads and social media don't mix well together ;)  But, I can tell you I did a lot of sewing last week,  and I have a lot to share coming soon ;)

And with that said . . . let's get to the Fun Surprise!!!  I got an email this weekend letting me know that my Unraveled Quilt, the Cottage Garden Edition, was selected as a finalist in the Modern Quilt Guild Riley Blake Fabric Challenge!!!!  Yippee!!!!  I can't tell you how much this brightened up my weekend, and I think it helped to chase away my cold too ;)

Unraveled is one of the quilt designs in the Modern Patchwork section of my book Irish Chain Quilts.  It is such a fun quilt to put together and I loved making it the second time every bit as much as I did the first time ;)

I really tried to push myself on the quilting of this one and I think it might be some of my all time favorite quilting I have done!!  So that just makes it all the more special for me ;)

I wrote lots more about this quilt when I originally posted the finish here, if you want to check it out ;)  This was just such a fun surprise for me and I am just tickled pink to have been chosen as a finalist!!!  Thanks so much to the Modern Quilt Guild and Riley Blake for hosting such a fun challenge!!  I look forward to these every year and love seeing all of the amazing projects everyone makes!! This is such an amazing community to be a part of :)

You can see all of the Finalist and Winner of the Challenge at the MQG Blog right here ;)

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Snapshots QAL - Gone Surfin'

Well, it's the 15th of the month and that means its another Snapshots QAL day!!!!  I can't wait to see this all come together, only two  more months left!!  .  This month's new block is called Gone Surfin' and it is just so cute!!    I mean, who wouldn't love an adorable car like this!!!

I have always been a water baby.  I love swimming and I growing up, I always enjoyed  family vacations spent at the beach in beautiful British Colombia.  And so it is no surprise to me that my kids really, really, really, love the beach as well!!!  It is their all time favorite thing to do as a family!!  Last spring I watched the kids attempt to surf on some kneeboards when we went to CA and it was quite entertaining.  Good times!!

So, you know how this is working by now, right??  You can download the pattern right here and then don't forget to donate the $5.00 for the pattern to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ;)  This is such an amazing cause and it is so fabulous that Fat Quarter Shop and Moda will be matching our donations. They have raised over $30,000 and still going!!!  That's amazing!!!!

This block was so much fun to put together!!   And Kimberly also made putting this block together even easier with this fabulous You Tube video.   I just love these fun, tip filled videos ;)

Be sure to  share all of your Snapshots progress on social media with #fqssnapshots and check out these fabulous bloggers for some Gone Surfin' inspiration :)
