Cheater Print Patchwork Picnic Quit and Free PDF Pattern

Hello Quilting Friends! Today I am thrilled to be sharing this Cheater Patchwork Quilt as well as a Free PDF Pattern for it!!! Growing up, we had lots of quilts that were a giant piece of Cheater Print fabric that we then tied. They were our favorite picnic quilts and I have many a fond memory lying under the trees sharing laughs with my family on them. So a while back, I decided to make a pieced version of those cheater prints!!! I took some of my favorite basic blocks, mixed them all up, and wha-la . . .a classic Cheater Patchwork quilt!!!

This Cheater Patchwork quilt is super easy to make, especially because all you need to start is two 10" stackers!!! I used Glamp Camp by My Mind's Eye. I just love the wonderfully soft colors, and the adorable camping prints. As soon as I showed this fabric to my girls, they wanted a cabin quilt from it. My daughters can't wait to claim this as all theirs (and I hear they have plans that only girl cousins can use it :)

As I mentioned, this is a super fun and fast quilt to make. It uses squares, four patches, half square triangles, and quarter square triangles for the blocks. The big key is just letting it all go when you lay the quilt out and keeping it totally random. It creates so many fun designs and really resembles that random cheater print ;) And for fun, I let my girls lay the quilt out before I sewed the blocks together. They had so much fun playing with all the prints and colors and mixing and matching the blocks. In the end, I think they did a great job on balancing colors and prints and now it is all the more special for them ;)

I originally made this quilt as a Christmas Quilt using Carta Bella's Christmas Deliver Fabric line. Isn't it just as fun as a Christmas quilt. Now I totally want to make a 4th of July version so we can watch fireworks on it. And I totally love American Dream by Dani Mogstad and think it would be perfect for this design. Add another quilt to the list!! Oh, and just for reference, when I made the Christmas version, I also shared a free Happy Quilting Tutorial, that walks you through how to make it step by step. This is a great option to check out, especially if you are new to quilting!!!

And as I mentioned, there is also a free PDF Download of this pattern and you can totally make it up in a week or less! It finishes at 72 1/2" x 72 1/2" so it is a wonderful picnic size!!! All you need is any two 10" stackers or Layer Cakes, and prints for binding and backing. That's it!!! Just grab and get sewing!!! To get the FREE PDF Cheater Patchwork Quilt Pattern Download, just click here  and download it  ;)

And when it came time to quilt mine, I decided I wanted to keep with the theme of "glamping" so I decided a nice loose feather would just look like trailing vines across the quilt top. So pretty and yet still gives you a camping feel. And I kept it nice and loose so the quilt is still super soft and will be great for snuggling in.

And now we just need the snow to finish melting so we can take this up to the cabin and start enjoying the spring season with all it's Glamping (or cabin) goodness!!! I can't wait . . . bring on the camp songs, fires, and most importantly, the smores.

And that is my Cheater Patchwork Quilt!!! I hope you have enjoyed this post. Oh, and if you make your own Cheater Patchwork Quilts, I would love to see them! Halloween Sparkly Stars Quilt - HQM Quilt 4 (And FREE PDF Pattern)

It's the end of Week 4 of the Happy Quilting Marathon and after sharing this quilt on Thursday, I knew exactly what quilt I wanted to finish up this week!!!   I started today's quilt back in 2019and it has been waiting to be finished for some time.   So without further ado . . . here is Halloween Sparkly Stars and it because I have made it a few times, it also has a free step by step tutorial as well as a FREE PDF Pattern with 6 size options!!!

Sparkly Stars is such a fun and easy quilt to make. I call it "Sparkly" because the points of the stars overlap, so you don't have to worry about matching any points. Each Fat Quarter makes a Block Star and a Block Background.  And with the Free Sparkly Stars Pattern you can choose to make just the size you want!!  This is the twin size :)

Sparkly Stars is Fat Quarter Friendly, making it easy to grab a FQ Bundle and get stitching right away.  I actually bought this FQB of Halloween Magic by Bella Blvd. for Riley Blake Designs clear back in 2015 at one of my first quilt markets.   I loved that it was "cute" Halloween :)  But really, any FQ Bundle would look good in this design.  I have now made Sparkly Stars winter themed, monochromatic, and Halloween, and I have 4th of July and Christmas added to the list to make ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided to take advantage of the face that all the blocks are 9 patches.   And that makes it super easy to do a wavy orange peel.   I used a medium grey so it would blend well with the black and the prints, and I just love how it gives the effect of spider webs, but not in a scary way :)   And it makes for some amazing texture, so fun!!!

And now that it is complete, it has been folded up in the Holiday quilts.   Here is hoping I remember to pull it out at Halloween :)  If you haven't figured out by now, Halloween is not my favorite.  I don't mind the cute part of Halloween, but I am really not a fan of all the scary stuff.   So ya, this is pretty much the first Halloween quilt that I have made and plan to keep :)

And that is Quilt #4 - Halloween Sparkly Stars ;)  4 Down and only 22 more quilts to go in the Happy Quilting Marathon :)

And that is it for today, thanks for popping in to share this finish with me!!!

Oh, and if you make your own Sparkly Stars quilts, I would love to see them! You can share your quilts in any size with me on social media using hashtags  #happyquiltingwithmc and #rileyblakedesigns and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Sparkly Stars Quilts!!

Super Soft Sparkly Stars Quilt and Free PDF Pattern

Hello Quilting Friends! Today I am thrilled to be sharing this adorable Sparkly Stars quilt as well as a Free PDF Pattern for it!!! This quilt features the Hello Winter Flannel line by Tara Reed. As soon as I saw this fantastic fabric line, I just knew I had to make a snuggle quilt with it. My children love, love, love Flannel Quilts, and want a bunch of them to have at the cabin for winter snuggles around the fire place. And I just knew that Sparkly Stars was the perfect pattern to share these fun flannels in!!!

Sparkly Stars is a Fat Quarter Friendly quilt, so I grabbed a super soft FQB of Hello Winter and got cutting. I just love how soft Riley Blake Designs flannels are. Have you ever created with them before?? They are just so wonderful!! I even used Designer Flannels in the background and binding!! Riley Blake has so many to choose from, making this an adorably, snuggly quilt!!!

Sparkly Stars is such a fun and easy quilt to make. I call it "Sparkly" because the points of the stars overlap, making it easy for you to sew together as you don't have to worry about matching any points. So great!!! And the alternating block layout gives it so much fun movement. I just love it!

My original Sparkly Stars quilt was done in purples and greys and I made it back in 2018. (Purple is my absolute favorite color!!!) When I made it, I also shared a free Happy Quilting Tutorial, that walks you through how to make it step by step. This is a great option to check out, especially if you are new to quilting!!!

And as I mentioned, there is also a free PDF Download of this pattern and I included 6 size options, so you can make this quilt in just the size you want without any quilt math. I just love doing quilt math, I know, weird, but I really do just love it!!! All you need is a stack of Fat Quarters, a Background fabric, and you are good to go!!! To get the FREE PDF Sparkly Stars Pattern Download just click here :)

And when it came time to quilt mine, my son told me to make sure I don't quilt it so much that it isn't soft anymore. So I went ahead with a simple loop de loop in a fairly large scale. And he even gave his Softness seal of approval when I was done. This is the same kid that as a toddler used to put his head between the bolts of minky at the fabric store and rub up and down, tee hee hee :)

And I added another little surprise in this quilt. I just love adding a panel into the backing. Just simply adding a border to the panel totally makes for an adorable, two sided, quilt!!! And you better believe the panel and border are more flannel, softest quilt ever!!!!

And that is my Sparkly Stars Hello Winter quilt!!! I hope you have enjoyed this post.

Thank so much for popping in today and sharing this finish with me!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
