January Sew Sampler!!!

I was just thrilled when my January Sew Sampler Box arrived.  Talk about an amazing box of quilting goodness!!!  However, I was teaching so I am just now getting to making my block and sharing it  :)   And I just have to say, if Sweater Weather looks like this, I am all for more snow!!!  As long as I get to sit inside and sew, sew, sew!!!

I just love the beautiful colors and prints in this Cider Honey Bun.   I have been all the heart eyes about this Cider Fabric line since I first saw it, and you know I will be pairing some wonderful grunge with this!!!   Wouldn't this just make the prettiest table runner for fall!!!

And this month's notions are so cool!!!   First off, this Magic Touch Cleaning Mat Eraser.   I will admit, I was skeptical, but I am thrilled to say my rotating cutting mat has a whole new look, it really is Magical!!!    And these Sewtites are so cool!!!  Such a good idea to use magnets when pins just won't work, brilliant!!   And finally, Cool Pins.   Those are going to be awesome for row markers that I don't have to worry about pulling out when pressing my rows!!  Such a great box of goodies!!!

And of course, there is a new  Greatest Hits Quilt block to go with the box!!!  This is Track 10  pattern so we only have 2 more to go after this.   I can't wait to see this one come together.  Mine is all from scraps without a lot of matched prints, but I think with some fun low volume sashing and maybe so happy cornerstones it will pull together nicely.

And just a note, if you are wanting to get in on the new year of Sew Sampler boxes you have to get in line.  There is currently a waiting list as the box subscription is full.   But hopefully the wait isn't to long.  (I have been told new spots open up each week!!!)

And that is the January Sew Sampler Box from Fat Quarter Shop :) And I am already looking forward to February's arriving later this month!!!   It's the best day when my little aqua box is in the mail ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day . . . Let's make this a great week!!!

Guiding Stars Quilt

I am always so excited when I get to do a little secret sewing for my good friends at Moda Fabrics ;)   And when I opened the box with these gorgeous new Songbook Fabrics from brand new Moda Designer, Fancy That Design House, I just squealed!!!   I was thrilled when I first saw Moda Announce this new line, and to get to sew with it early, well that is just so exciting!!!    And now I am just thrilled to share this new Guiding Stars quilt from Lavender Lime Designs Pattern !!!

I think the thing I like most about this Songbook Fabrics line is the panels.   They are absolutely stunning, so I was thrilled that this quilt incorporates both the large and small panels.   I will say, you really have to fussy cut them one at a time as the spacing is tight, but they are so worth the effort.   Just beautiful!!!  And even though this looks pretty complex, it really goes together fast.   Just some squares, sashing, and a few stars and you are good to go!!  And it makes such a beautiful finish.

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided on some favorites.  I combined all over echoed paisleys, swirls, and curls to make a beautiful curvy flow with awesome texture.  .I just love how it adds so much movement to all of those straight lines in the quilt.   And  good ol' 402 Pearl blended perfectly in all of these light and dark colors, it really is my favorite color thread!!!

And I just love how this dense quilting design makes for some incredible texture.   Doesn't that just make you want to snuggle right up in this quilt and take a nap.  Someday when it comes home, It is going to be my study my scriptures curled up in front of the fireplace quilt.   Just perfect!!!

And now, it is making it's way to quilt shops all over the US in a traveling trunk show.      And if you want to make your own Guiding Stars quilt, I noticed that Fat Quarter Shop has a Kit already listed.  The fabric won't be available until May but you can add your email to be notified when it is available.   (and guess who's quilt is in that picture ;)   This is a great quilt to get the kit as it has a whole bunch of different yardage cuts and you need extra panels.   The kit just bundles it all up nicely for you :)

I am so happy that I got to make this beautiful Guiding Stars quilt and that I didn't have to keep it a secret for to long ;)   I loved making it and working with these gorgeous fabrics.   In fact, I loved it so much, I already have a second project planned for the scraps and a brand new pattern planned for all the prints.   More on that soon!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!!

Just a few Bags :)

Well, I am all packed up and ready to head out to the Quilty Friends Retreat!!  I am so excited to get away and sew for a few days, and I am just thrilled to get to teach again!!!   But I have to laugh, because I never cease to be blown away at how many bags it takes to go to a retreat.      And I don't even have my personal clothes bag in this picture ;)  Guess it's been a little while, I just kept finding more bags and totes to pack this all into, including,  my new Bonnie and Camille Quilt Bee tote, isn't that just to cute!!!

About half of the bags are for teaching :)   I am teaching 2 classes of my Wishes Pattern and 1 class of my Scraptastic Stars Pattern.  And we even have a square swap planned for our Scraptastic Stars class which should be a whole lot of fun.   I am also taking a class as well.  It is going to be crazy busy, but oh so much fun!!!   I am just so excited :)

And come Friday night, after all the classes, I get to unpack the rest of the bags for a Charming Baby quilts Trunk Show!!!   EEEkkk, I can't wait!!! That's what the two giant suit cases are for.  I am just so thrilled that I get to share all of the Charming Baby Quilts and the Charming Baby Quilt Remix's :)

And I have to say, I am so glad that  I was at a retreat with Jen Kingwell a few years back, who taught me to roll my quilts to transport them in suitcases.  Otherwise I don't think there would have been a chance to get all 21 of these in 2 suit cases.   And then the super fun part, trying to get them all back in afterwards ;)

I am going to try to remember to grab someone to take some pictures during the trunk show so I can share them afterwards.   I am just thrilled to be "retreating" again.  See you all when I get back.

Oh, but before them, I will be sharing a Secret Finish so be sure to pop back in on Friday :)

Until then, Happy Quilting!!

My Penelope Mini!!

So last year at the Quilty Friends Retreat , along with teaching a few classes, I also took one.  It was the Posh Penelope class taught by our amazing local quilt shop owner Kim!!!  The class was oh so much fun!!!  This is a pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful that uses their Quick Curve Ruler ;)   I finished one block in class and now it is almost a year later, the Quilty Friends Retreat is next week, and we take what we worked on the previous year and share . . . and this is what I am sharing!!!

Yup, I took that one block from class and made it into a mini.   I knew I just didn't have time to make this into a giant quilt, and so I purposely made it my favorite purple so I could turn it into a mini to add to my sewing room wall.   And yes, although I knew for a year that I was going to make this into a mini, I actually quilted and bound it yesterday.   Nothing like a sharing deadline to get something done ;)  But doesn't it just look so cute next to my machine.

It will be fun to share this next week, especially standing next to Barbara with her Queen size version!!!  I am just so excited for this Quilty Friends Retreat!!  I just miss teaching so much.   The classes will be a little smaller to allow distancing, and we are all wearing masks, but it is still just going to be amazing to get to sew with people again.  I can't wait!!!

I hope you all are having a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

December Sew Sampler Box!!!

So I know December has come and gone, but I was a little slow this month getting my Hits block made.  So before January goes, I wanted to pop in and share my amazing December Sew Sampler Box :)   The shipping on this box was also delayed because of supplier issues,  but it was totally worth the wait!!  It really is so great when I get to open my Sew Sampler Box!!! And this month's theme of Winter Flea Market has me wanting to create all kinds of treasures!!!

First is this beautiful set of 10" squares of Flea Market by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs!!   Isn't this just so pretty!!!   And how fun is this Twinkle Toes table runner pattern.  I love how it really let's the prints shine!!!   I am debating between making the table runner, or adding my Vintage Happy 2 prints from last December's box and making a whole quilt.   I think the two would pair together so perfectly, and this would just be oh so cute!!  What do you think, table runner or go big and make the quilt???

And I just love that the notions always go with the box!!!  You can't make Twinkle Toes without Sparkle Star Foundation paper :)   And how quick and easy this would be to use.  Just brilliant!!!    And I love this Magnetic Needle Case.   And I just love magnets to keep sharp objects in place, so great :)   And finally, of course, I am excited about the Aurifil Thread.   One can never have enough Aurifil!!!

And of course, my little reason for the hold-up in posting . . . a new box means a new Block!!   .This is the Greatest Hits Quilt  block Track 9  and I think it is just so fun ;)    I don't know why I waited so long to get it made (actually I do, lots of behind the scenes sewing has been going on) but truly, this block went together fast.    I think I spent more time pulling scraps than it took me to make the block ;)  And isn't it just so fun with that yellow low volume background ;)  I can't wait to see this quilt come together!!

And just a note, if you are wanting to get in on the new year of Sew Sampler boxes you have to get in line.  There is currently a waiting list as the box subscription is full.   But hopefully the wait isn't to long.  (I have been told new spots open up each week!!!)

And that is the December  Sew Sampler Box from Fat Quarter Shop :) And now I only have to wait a few days for my January Box!!  So great!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day . . . Let's make this a great week!!!

Just Blooming Plus Baby Quilt!!

Today I am excited to share another Charming Baby Quilt with you!!!  This is one I had planned for the Charming Baby Quilt Remix's but it got set aside.   But now, It is all finished and I just love it!!! This is Just Blooming with the center flower added and isn't it just so pretty!!!!

So the question is, why did I set it aside.   As I said, this was my original idea for the remix but as I started making it, I quickly realized that "remix" was more like "rewrite".   I couldn't figure out an easy way to make the alterations in the directions without basically re-writting the pattern.  And I have to say, sometimes I am a little OCD about things being the same, and it was driving me nuts that all the remixes were big quilts except this baby sized one.   So half way through it, I set it aside and instead made the large queen sized Just Blooming Remix quilt.

This is the original Just Blooming quilt and I just love it, but always wanted to see what it would look like with a flower in the center as well.  And so even though this Low Volume one was not working for my original plan, I just knew it had to be finished.

And so with some free time this week, it is now finished.   And I am just thrilled it didn't get set aside in the WIP pile ;)    For this Just Blooming baby quilt,  I used all the low volumes that were left from my Charming Baby Sew Along Sampler Quilt   and added a navy background to it.   And doesn't that just make those low volumes pop!!!  So fun!!!

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided on all over echoed paisley.   I just love this quilting design and the wonderful texture it adds.   And it is also a design that I have made a free motion quilting video tutorial of, just in case you are interested ;)

I just love the way this turned out, and it will make such a wonderful baby gift ;)   I think it is pretty gender neutral, which is always great for that baby shower when mom and dad to be are keeping it a surprise ;)    Which doesn't happen so much anymore, but we kept it a surprise with two of our kiddo's and it really was fun!!

And that is my Just Blooming Plus Baby quilt!!!  I hope you love it just as much as I do.   And if you want to make any of the Just Blooming quilts I would love to see them :)   You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or post it to social media with the hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and/or #charmingbabyquilts ;)  I can't wait to see your Just Blooming Quilts!!!

And if you are not sure where to find the original Just Blooming pattern or the Just Blooming Remix Pattern, you can find all the details in this  Charming Baby Quilts, All the Quilts, All the Details post ;)  It's a great place to bookmark to see everything Charming Baby Quilts all in one place!!

My Favorite Color is Moda - Morning Sunrise in Grunge!!

So a few months ago, Moda posted about some of their upcoming Quilt-Alongs, including this My Favorite Color is Moda Sampler.  I instantly was in love!!!  This quilt uses 10 solids to make a beautiful sampler that focuses on color.  There are 6 Color Way Kits and I have to say, each is just so pretty!!  Here is more details of the QAL :)

The Coastal Kit reminded me of my Modern Building Blocks quilt I made a few years back.   And I thought, this Samper has a lot of the same feel, so why not make a companion!!!  I can already see them hanging next to each other on the quilt racks, so great!!!

So with my Modern Building Blocks quilt having a Back to Nature, woodsy feel.   I thought, how about a Morning Sunrise to go with it ;)  And remember these blocks I was cutting out . . . well, I have just enough left over to make up this sampler.   Perfect!!!   This is going to be some grunge goodness for sure!!!

But before I get to far into this, I have decided that this will be added to my Long Term project pile.   I like the idea of trying to keep up with the Quilt Along, but I also know I will have lots of deadlines along the way and I want this quilt to just be relaxing and fun.    Of course, with that said, I had the same intention for my Modern Building Blocks quilt and then couldn't stop working on it :)   I guess we will just see how it goes.

I just love new "long-term" projects!!!

How about you, and new projects on your plate??

You could always join in this quilt along.  I think it will be starting soon :)  Just grab your My Favorite Color is Moda booklet and a stack of your favorite colors and away we go!!

I hope you all have a Happy Quilting Day!!
